This is one of my favourite Conan remotes, it shows why he's the master. He doesn't mock the birders or make fun of them like others might do, instead he actively participates and shows enthusiam which leads to hilarity, and his improvisation skills are brilliant.
The reason he's so funny is because he's not afraid of being a goofball, making self depreciating jokes, and throwing himself into whatever he's doing. He doesn't act haughty or better than anyone.

Conan is very bird like now that I think about it. He's got the fierce head plumage, he has a loud bright voice, he does mating dances, he often repeats phrases that are said to him back to the person that said them, and it's very difficult to sex him as male or female without a blood test. I guess that's why I like him so much, I love birds.
It's refreshing to see such a public figure talk shop re: Birds, Birding, Birders, etc.. More people need to be privy to one of the all-time important (and fun) past-times and this segment of the CONAN show clearly "zooms in" on something everyone should know.

Stereotypical older "little old ladies in tennis shoes." Actually a lot of us birders are younger males. While the elderly still seem to be a large population of birders, this appears to be changing. Also they said that Conan looked like a Red-headed Woodpecker, but they showed a Pileated Woodpecker. And yes, if anyone is wondering, I have also observed Bushtits; as well as Dickcissels, Hairy Woodpeckers, and American Woodcocks.
Why are you so ashamed of these nice ladies? They seem pretty knowledgeable and nice and cool and I would like to spend time with them I don’t think you should be ashamed of them and brag about how birders now are actually younger males ..because we all know what those guys are...
