We wouldn't even need charter schools to 'help poor kids have a better education' if we just funded all public schools equally. Back in the day, the USA used to be #1 in education. We truly used to be #1, look it up. Now, we are like, #36 if even. Other countries modeled their system off of our own, and took our ideas. In Finland, there is no such thing as 'good' and 'bad' schools, there are just schools, and they are no different from any other. And they got this idea from the USA. Equally fund all public schools, so all children regardless of their family's economic status can have a quality education and not have to work in a building with minimal supplies and rats and other horrendous conditions, and we wouldn't have to worry about this. Back in the day, we didn't even have to, because ALL of our schools were equally great. Charter schools are trying to solve a problem that has a simpler solution. We don't need Charter schools, we just need to take public education seriously, like we used to.

Our healthcare system is FAR better than the american one, our educational system is also a lot better, being either free or atleast accessible. Our social security plans are also a lot more protective. That is possible because of the vast ideological representation every country has, unlike the USA which is completely turned to the right wing.

US scores are brought down to average within a Euro framework because of the incredibly low scores of African and Latino Americans(who score poorly regardless of wealth or "opportunity"). White European children don't outscore white American children, never have. The US does well in international comparative data like TIMSS, and middle of the pack in PISA data. Healthcare? Same story. The US has the greatest medical institutions on the planet, a longer life expectancy than Estonia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia...and, again, this is a demographic issue...whites and east Asians live longer than Blacks and Latinos. It's really a simple thing...white people tend to have the same metrics of white people, regardless of where they live. East Asians tend to have the same metrics as their founder population groups. Latino and African Americans tend to do better than Africans and their Latin American founder population groups actually, but much worse than whites or Asians. It's almost always demographics that creates disparity, it's almost never systems.

Maradrafts There are only two major parties here and one of them has been putting the power of their party ahead of the wellbeing of the country because they don;t want to lose any power now that they have a majority in the legislature (Parliament) and a president of their party. Senators vote on the confirmations. Currently, Republicans have the majority in the Senate, so unless some Republicans care enough about qualifications, they will vote in unison.

I started high school when Trump came into office. Help me.
She can smile through all her inept answers because she knows that the fix is in. Despite how foolish her answers are, and how little she knows about the topic, she has already bought her job. She can afford to fiddle around while the public school budget is diverted to fundamentalist religious schools that are not held to the same educational standards as public schools. Her social circle can simply buy success for their children as she has done, without ever competing using basic competency.

Where are these public schools that have such "high standards" in relation to private schools? Our school system is pathetic. People who can barely read (and actually comprehend what they've read) are graduating from American public high schools in droves. The public schools in my area are like zoos, the kids' behavior and grades are appalling!

Teachers are blatantly spit upon and disrespected by not only parents, but society as a whole...where do you think children learn that kind of behavior? I called this like two years ago. Some asshole billionaire is gonna think the way to improve our education system is to privatize it, and all of a sudden basic education, like medicine, will be something you can only afford if you have money.
She also supports child labor for poor kids, instead of education - basically we're not going back to the 1950s, we're going back to the 1890s.
It's like this---Betsy DeVos is basically blamed for accelerating the growth of for-profit charter schools in Michigan, which forced a lot of school closings in Detroit--even of schools that were doing pretty well. She got a law passed to make that happen. The thing is, she's anti-public school,she's never been a teacher, a principal, or any kind of a school administrator. In other words, she has no real experience working in any kind of real education at all. Here's the real scoop on her and her family and their huge influence on repub politics in Michigan:

Since the latter is very unlikely, let's tell the kids learn all they can about whatever interests them online, and a little political science won't hurt. After that, do the Ray Bradbury method and live in a library so you can read every book.

Yet these appointments are nearly untouchable. Trump continues. Trumpsters continue. Bills written into law with hardly a peep but some inconsequential votes in the house. Senators fall into line. The populous is mostly of melinnials and they could go either way as the breeze blows. Liberals are about lip service. Moaning as zombies during an apocalypse. But.. I am grateful for the worms surfacing to the light. But make it stop before Trump signs torture into law any time now. He's got the support. We the people deserve this.
