- I first met Toby in September 2001 in Las Vegas and while I know a lot of people, I don’t have that many friends. I just lost one of them.
Our love & prayers are with his family.

I new that Toby was dealing with stomach cancer, but he always seemed to be a larger than life, powerhouse that couldn’t be beaten by his illness. I was shocked and saddened when I heard that he had passed. Thanks for the tribute Sammy.
Van Halen concert in OKC around 2006, Toby came out and sang I Love This Bar with Sammy, everyone sang along, I couldn't believe all the rock fans had turned into Country Music fans, it took me a few more years but I came around.

Extremely sad at the passing on of such a great entertainer, songwriter and a great man. A true, red.blooded American patriot who loved this country and the people who rightfully reside here. Toby spoke for a lot of us who don't speak up. He took the grief and carried the weight for us. He had big shoulders, but still.

That song he wrote about the basketball player totally fits what we are all feeling- we are crying for us losing Toby-Toby actually spoke that he was in PEACE with what ever the outcome of the cancer journey! I think he knew deep in his heart that he wasn’t going to make it. Those last 6 months he was already saying goodbye to everyone & everything that was his life. He was ready for heaven.
I'm in the UK and i'm not a Country guy, so I only knew of Toby Keith because of his work with Sammy. For me, that makes this video all the more poignant. 🙁

Sammy, there are many different kinds of friends, and though you may not have many personal friends, us lifelong fans are your friends, also, even though we never met and don't know each other..I have no doubt that the same was true for Toby Keith...he was a part of our lives, and you are, too....
I’m still crying over the loss of my Toby. We will never have anyone else like him to carry on. His legacy will live on forever in my heart. He was an absolute powerhouse on stage. I got to meet him a very long time ago when he was playing in a bar in Oklahoma. I don’t live there anymore but I have followed him ever since. He asked me for a dance at that bar I gladly accepted. He was such a great family man and husband and still with all the growing into a huge presence he stayed grounded. That’s unheard of these days.
Thank You for sharing Sammy. I have followed you since back in the day. You are one of the goid ones. The first time I heard Toby Keith's voice in his early days, his music had me. The stories he told thru his music, his humor, his heart and what he and his wife did for so many including the children. He was a beautiful soul and the best songwriter. His music and honesty touched my heart. Thank you for sharing your friendship with him. My heart goes out to his friends and family. I hope in this difficult time they find peace thru memories and their faith. God Bless you Toby Keith. You were one of a kind 💛

What an amazing Musician, song writer, and human being. I'm a US Marine and Toby Keith is loved and adored by the Marine Corps, along with all the other branches, but we lay claim on him being ours. The man toured tirelessly going back to Desert Storm/Shield in the first Gulf War, and throughout OIF in iraq and OEF in Afghanistan, often bringing all kinds of stuff and people on his own dime. The man was practically a billionaire, but that did not define Toby, and he treated all people with respect, and supports so many charities that I won't even try to list them all. God called him back to where we are all from too soon, and I'd like to think he's over there now, passing out stacks or red cups to the boys of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eddie Van Halen, Glenn Fry,, and ol Jimi, as they all do some jamming, so whenever It's my time I hope I go where all Dogs and those guys are. 🇺🇸SF rip Toby, we miss you.

Sammy, I’m so terribly sorry for the loss of your best friend. I can’t imagine the hole you have in your heart. Toby was a stand up guy, a class act, full of integrity and devout Patriotism. He was a cherished song writer, a strong voice and never apologized for who he was or afraid to say his opinions. There will never be another. Thankfully, he left us with a catalog of music so we can all relive 30 years of memories. Peace be with you and your family. You are such a good man too.

I pray that someday, someone finds a cure, so we don’t have to lose so many of our family, friends and Icons. This is hard to watch for me, my Cousin Gregg Allman passed away 7 years ago, and I still think of him every damn day.
