I recently got my first pair of Crockett & Jones, and even though they were seconds from their factory store in Northampton, they still boxed them up after I bought them with the same care with the shoebags and paper, really professional touch. And as for being seconds, you really can't tell, a slight imperfection in the leather on the inside of the arch on one of the shoes, but not noticeable unless you took the shoes off and inspected them, yet they were £230 instead of the normal £540 price, great deal.
Great review! I have a pair of the bostons, which are the lined non-shell variation of these in a dark brown suede. I agree with you that they give the traditional toe shape with a significantly more shaped heel cup and top line. Mine are probably my most worn shoes in summer! Keep up the great work!
Pretty cool you were able to order from Ben Silver. I like their style even if they don’t respond to inquiry emails on their website. I just ordered these at a C&J trunk show. McKee in mind, it’s November 2022 and they won’t ship until May 2023. Apparently, you have to preorder these because they can’t keep enough of the whisky cordovan in stock, especially since they take extra care to match up the color perfectly. I got the medium brown since they had them in stock
Gorgeous! Ordered a pair last month and even more excited to take delivery this August (C & J evidently only do runs 2x a year for Ben Silver) after watching your video!
Love your videos! Gotta get myself a whiskey pair? How about the c&j burgundy cordovan? Not many people get it in those they prefer the color 8 version eh. Main question, where can I get those brushes! I can’t find them anywhere! Thanks!
Thanks Peter! I’d be pretty confident in saying any burgundy Horween shell is color 8, the color will slightly change maker to maker because each may finish it on their own, or may request a slightly darker or light version of it. I got the brushes from mason and smith in Singapore
Nice, there isn't much coverage of C&J on RUclips unfortunately. How do they fit Vs Carmina? I'm 7.5 as well and I've tried their Cavendish and it fit well...and I tried Carmina tassel and it was way too snug. I'm in between sizes so I tend to go with the lower and hope the boot/shoe stretched a bit when I break it in.
Hi thanks for the review. Quick question, CJ recommends sizing down 1/2 for these b/c they are unlined. so if UK8.5 in the boston loafer fit me well, should I try the UK8 with these?
Thanks Charlie. I never size down for loafers because of my instep and I prefer my lace up to be fitted. So sizing down would mean a very uncomfortable fit. If your lace up shoes are fitted, meaning no wiggle room in the heel, then I’d stick TTS but it depends on a number of fitting aspects as well. I don’t think the 2mm of lining is going to create that big of a difference, unless you’re already wearing shoes that may be borderline too big. Hopefully that all makes sense
I share your opinion regarding heritage brands. Considering your collection and your taste you can try something like the ""Caulaincourt - Bronx" if penny loafers are in question. Of course you will have to go for their MTO option for a Goodyear Welt as most of their rtw shoes are blake stitch. But that is at a very minor cost and you get a traditional penny loafer in a dashing and contemporary "Parisian Last". I love your taste in shoes and really enjoy your videos. Just sharing my opinion regarding penny loafers, which for me is an acquired taste. Arthur Porta at Caulaincourt can hook you up. I only bring it up because recently I was torn between a woven knot loafer at Carmina and one at Caulaincourt. Going with Caulaincourt was the right choice and I am loving it...
Appreciate that! Yeah, the Parisian style, has really never appealed to me, it’s far from the classic moc penny style that CJ does pretty well. There are a number of makers that make a similar moc toe penny loafer but seems when looking for the classic shell cordovan moc toe, some times the classics are classic for a reason. The Bronx looks like a nice shoe, but a much more contemporary look with the blind strap, raised piping apron, and high vamp. A much different look, and the lack of shell would have immediately ruled it out for this pair I was after. Appreciate it!
Thank you so much. Yes! I agree it is a more contemporary last and with the differences you mentioned. In any case you can never go wrong with a true classic. I wish you a lovely day and enjoy your shoe for years to come.
It’s kind of hard to explain. I love the shoes. They’re extremely solid in many aspects. But I wouldn’t say I’m impressed at any one detail. CJ is kind of in the range where they make very solid and reliable shoes but they’re not really exceeding above the pack at any one element.
Beautiful shoe! Try unboxing Stefano Borella, an Italian brand, I talked to several people and they recommended me a lot! Take a look at Stefano Borella's penny loafer Picasso. Say hello to Brazil!
Hey there, thank you much. Stefano borella is a much different style and realm of shoe. They’re a primarily white label factory that makes their own brand and makes shoes for others who brand them themselves. Not saying it’s a bad shoe, just saying it’s a much different range of shoes than that of mid range shoe. Check out mbshoedoc, I know he’s unboxed a few and I believe his shoe brand may be very very much like stefano borella….
@@Shellvedge Thanks for answering! I'm looking for a penny loafer that I can spend a good time without looking at other brands.hahaha I'm in doubt between Acemarks Greg, Paul evans Stewart, Picasso Stefano Borella and To Boot New York Tesoro. Which of these would you recommend me? I really like your content, you gained + 1 subscriber!

Oh that’s awesome! Yeah I was pleasantly surprised they had them in my size and arrived in 2 days.
I have these and love them. You're spot on re finishing. It's what it should be. Much better finishing than Alden in my opinion.
Yeah unfortunately better than Alden is like saying it’s better than AE now a days 😬. But they are very nice!
Beautiful shoes Sir. They look great! Are they soft and comfortable? 😊
Are there any disadvantage on a unlined loafer? will it last a long time in hot weather? great video!
I have the same pair, acquired from Ben Silver two years ago. Great shoes!
Yeah very happy
How does it fit for you , I got some and can’t tell if they’re too small or how it should fit

Yeah they fit much better than my carmina pair. A bit more generous
Which shoe trees do you use for these loafers, are there any in particularly that you'd recommend?

What do you think of the JM Weston180?
They seem to be solid shoes. They remind me of a French EG. it’s a good shoe but nothing that really excites me.
Penny loafer ❤❤
Beauts. Not easy to get. Price?
Thanks man. Around the normal price, $900 I think. The links are in the description
Can you post your shell cordovan boots in armagnac
Which pair is it you’re referring to? I have a chukka boot, but that’s it.
