      Been using it on my rig since it updated to the 3X mode. Edit: At @5:25 with you going down to a planet. Something seems wrong on the moons right now. I have a 4090. I almost forgot to come back and say thanks! I was originally like "he's lying."
    Everyone always adverstises "DOUBLE YOUR FRAME RATE!" I installed the program and started running tests and immediately started getting a smoother turn. I couldn't figure out why this would work. If the system is already being heavily taxed by the game then how does adding more stress improve the visual framerate? Then it dawned on me that the GPU isn't being taxed as often as it should because Star Citizen is unoptimized. It sends too much to the CPU leaving the GPU idle. This gives a lot of extra room to the GPU to process the extra frames. I do notice when I really max out that smoothing that the turns are sluggish compared to my input and there are visual artifacts, but simply using the LSFG 2.3 with X2 mode and performance (no scaling) it works smooth as butter with no noticeable latency from input yet. Note, I haven't gotten into a dogfight with it on quite yet.

  • @cpt.tombstone
    @cpt.tombstone 3 месяца назад +22

    I'm not surprised you felt the ship become uncontrollable at ~15 fps. You would likely be looking at 120+ ms of input latency at that point, which is quite high.

    You can also record the entire screen with OBS at 120 fps (you'll have to use AV1 or H265/HEVC for encoding as H264 is just too slow by default) and then slow it down to 60 or 30 fps in the video to showcase the difference between Frame Gen on vs off. The slowed-down footage also shows the artifacts better.

    x3 frame generation is generating too much input lag. It is too much even while roaming through Lorville. And artifacting is crazy when you swing your mouse a bit faster.

    Ok, well I tried this and in areas of poor performance (y'know the reason you'd want this in the first place) it creates horrendous screen tearing, artifacting and massive input lag. Messed around with the settings a bit and can't seem to resolve this. If there are areas in the game where your frames can drop below 30, this tool seems to make things worse, not better.

    Been using it in some singleplayer and slower paced multiplayer games. Especially like it in Microsoft Flight Simulator, game is demanding and not well optimised and runs fine on my 7800X3D/4080Super but if you go in busy airports it could go down to like 40 fps on ultra settings. And Lossless scaling works very nice there, no artifacts, input lag feels kind of the same. Overall this app is a game changer, especially if you have a stable 60+ fps most of the time.

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah that's a good question! In theory as long as you stick within the 33Hz to 162Hz range, I believe g sync will still work. The real benefit is really just allowing a game like Star Citizen (which generally performs poorly) to 'look' like it's performing 3x better. You could limit your FPS to 54 and allow lossless scaling to take that to 162. Your system won't be able to maintain 54 everywhere in game, but in theory gsync will still eliminate screen tearing etc.

    Quite misleading, 5:46 you say that the ship would also not have been controlable without FG as if the control issue is the same with and without. Thats simply not accurate. I just got this on your reccomendation and I knew there would be some input lag as thats inevitable with FG. But the input lag with Lossless Scaling is terrible. Even at 50fps native (150 with x3), it is very noticable, worse than Nvidias FG tech. (Yes both with and without V-Sync and with scaling set to off). This is in my opinion emmersion breaking waiting for your ship to act. You skirted over the input lag way too much. There's not sweetspot for this, if you have low fps, the input lag makes the came uncontrolable. If you have med/high fps it adds enough input lag that the game plays better without anyway. Glad it was only £7.

    Native Resolution with TSR AA vs DLSS/TSR Quality w/ LSFG 2.1 2X non-performance or 3X Performance would likely be around the same host framerate, so you would be looking at a 2-3X framerate for "free". Also, one other cool thing with LSFG 2.9 is that it can now intelligently "skip" frames to be generated based on how close to the max refresh rate the game is running at. Of course, it's better to cap the framerate to half/third of the refresh rate with a high refresh rate (preferably 360Hz or above) display, but even with a 60 Hz display, with a system generally getting 45-50 fps, LSFG can boost the framerate to 60 without tearing or going above the native refresh rate. This can result in less smooth images, but I think this is an awesome new feature for those on fixed-refresh rate displays.

    Anyone noticing the framerate drop by 40-50% when enabling Framegen? then it adds fake frames x2 from the dropped framerate. Not sure what setting I screwed up. For example. Im getting ~80-90 FPS on SPK interior without framegen. When enabling framegen it reduces the actual frames to 60 then adds fake frames to hit 120-130 FPS. Same with Metro exodus.

    knowing how this frame gen works i think its pointless as there just fake frames yes it feels smoother but the input lag is way worse worse then the native fps would be without frame gen. like alot of people have showed frame gen is really only good when your fps is already half decent 60+ because the input lag is less with more fps this is the same with Nvidia frame gen aswell and thats better. still apricate the testing tho. side note if u play on controller u can ignore alot of this as its harder to feel input lag to a point

  • @shh532
    @shh532 3 месяца назад +2

    I'm heavily in two minds about using DLSS 3 FG in SC due to input lag, and I think here there needs to be some testing to see what it's like. For PvP, FPS and space combat, I think I will have to use DLSS upscaling for that perf gain rather than the DLAA/FG pairing. I had to turn off FG in Ghost of Tsushima because it threw off a lot of tight timings

      @tenpoundfortytwo I am using a 3080ti at 3440*1440 on very high settings except for clouds with a i9 12900k and ddr5 5600mhz. It seems like there are microstutters. Dx11 seemed to help, but I find vulkan natively better compared to dx11 with lossless scaling.

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  3 месяца назад +1

      @@JamieCrew interesting! Do you have your ecores off? I imagine the 3080ti is being pushed pretty hard at that resolution, so i'd definitely mess around with different dlss settings and try the 2x and 3x modes (and performance mode).

      @JamieCrew 3 месяца назад +1

      Suprising, you mentioned the e cores cause I know it's destroyed my SC experience since 2021. However, they finally fixed the issues with 3.23, so now I can play with them on perfectly fine. I did try 2x and 3x, I actually found 3x smoother which is interesting as there's more latency(most likely indicating the microstutters are probably not latency related), I had a feeling it was V Sync related as my monitor is 100hz, I tried the in game V sync and the lossless scaling v sync and that also didn't help.

    Forget Lossless Scaling - the preview build of AMD's AFMF 2.0 blows any upscaler out of water right now and it works with Anti-Lag enabled, latency stays way below 20ms.

    • @axelcllt
      @axelcllt 24 дня назад

      We'll see, but you also need to know that in Lossless scaling there's an option to allow screen tearing, and this option reduces input lag by a lot
      Screen tearing should not be an issue for most people, since almost all monitors nowadays support adaptive sync/g sync which eliminates any screen tear directly from the monitor side
      Also if you already have good fps before using framegen, your latency when using it should not be a problem

    The problem with fps insertion is still as always, you need to have 30-40 but preferably above 60 that it works properly! There is simply not enough info sub 20 fps. But if you are hitting these levels you better have a high refresh rate monitor too. Maybe CIG will add fsr fare gen/dlss3 later.
