One of the most versatile tools in the tool box.
Please do not remove the safety features on your Angle Grinder. This will increase the tools effectiveness, but possible injuries will also increase. Good leather gloves is a must when using this tool, and eye/ face protection are what I use, which is required to keep a pretty face and limb protection.
Watched a buddy almost cut his finger off when the grinder grabbed and sliced his finger. Idiots will always find a way to hurt themselves
Didn’t know I could remove safety features to increase effectiveness. Lol. Why would you tell people this
@@rashkov2003 everyone takes the guard off. First thing I did, I still have the guard in the box.

Worth noting that if you are going to use a diamond wheel when cutting tile, ensure that the area where you're cutting is wet, this prolongs the lifespan of the wheel and allows a better cut.
Worthwhile tips for anyone contemplating the use of an angle grinder. A versatile and extremely helpful tool. The tips in this video will help with using it safely.
Man im using on for the first time at work tomorrow and kinda scared. Not for my fingers but my face
@@austinreeves5221 how’d it go?
I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read ruclips.net/user/postUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.
Great video. I m an Aussie who worked in construction for a long time and still do a bit of work every few weeks. I 've cut up a lot of steel.
All your tips are spot on. Angle grinders are not toys and must be used responsibly.
Always use PPE, correct gloves, proper eye protection, glasses/goggles. Steel capped boots, or at least think leather boots. Ear muffs better to use also for those cutting on a regular basis.
This vid gets super techy in just 4 min. I like it
Very useful lesson! Thanks 👍
On a lock switch MAKE SURE ITS OFF BEFORE U PLUG IT IN I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, It happened to me the very first time I picked up a angle grinder and it was laying over concrete and started bouncing around like a foot away from my legs
Make sure the switch is off and the outlet is aswell, provides you with a double way to turn it on and off
Manufacturers of electric tools always tell you to unplug one before you make any changes. (For example, changing the sanding belt, bit, or blade.) I never do. Except on this tool. I religiously unplug it before making any adjustments whatsoever. The number of times I've chucked up the wrench and hit the "on" switch instead of the lock button.... I don't even like to think about it.
@@bonzolo2358 Most household outlets in the US can't be turned off unless you switch off the breaker to the circuit or intentionally trip a GFCI outlet.

Very informative.
also: wear the RIGHT gloves (e.g. leather). Recently i had a pair catch fire on me while cutting steel.. 😱 got pretty warm suddenly 😂
How about the direction when cutting metal? From back to front or forwarr, or backward?
Hi There,
You typically want the wheel to be pulling away from you not towards you. Hope this was helpful!
Your safety is good.
you should probably secure the work surface. then you dont have to worry about it skipping or rolling off on you
So you hold the main body with your right hand then use your left hand to hold the handle?
It depends on if you're left or right handed, im right handed so I hold the body with my right because it gives me more control of the machine and allows me to start a cut easier
I used my angle grinder for the first time and it started smoking.😮 i unplugged it real quick
Yes. Always wear hearing protection. Thank you

They’re so cheap these days I don’t even bother changing wheels. I just have a dedicated one for different purposes.
The people saying the cheap ones are garbage is simply not true. My first was $15 from harbor freight I picked up as a kid because I didn’t have much money…. Well 20 years later it’s still working perfectly. I have since mounted it on a jig amazon sells that converts it into a chop saw.
I can not recomand an angle grinder with a switch that you can lock in position, i have one of those (going into trash now) and i had it jump out ouf the cut i made, jumped out of my grip (i could not reach the switch anymore), cut me into the hip just milimeters away from vital blood vessels and started to eat my t-shit until i ripped it out of my shirt and pulled the plug, this was scary. And i was only working with a small 500Watts grinder.
Also ALWAYS wear ear and eye protection and gloves! Please!
All small grinders usually have those switches that lock into position as they're often held in unusual positions that don't allow a normal switch to be installed. I would recommend wearing overalls too as they're easier to avoid snagging.
How did the lock switch make you lose grip? This sounds like a you problem not a we problem... PTSD is serious though good to know you're taking the steps to get better by watching a safety video
It is not the grinder, it is you. I will always recommend a grinder with a lock on switch, you have more fingers to actually grip and hold on to the grinder properly instead of having to keep the pressure on some switch with some of your fingers.
The same happend to me😒
I got a metabo hpt and found it odd they dont recommend cutting, says it's only intended for grinding, it's no different than the ones for cutting, and they have depressed type 27 cutt off wheels, so what am I missing
Hi David,
Unfortunately we're not familiar with Metabo. You're welcome to take it into your neighborhood Ace to see if they can diagnose the issue or come up with some options. Best of luck!
Its very difficult to cut metal in the position they show. You cannot really see the blade, and the thus cannot cut straight. That position is fine for cutting pipes

Shit. Just bought one of these. The moment I took it out the box and felt how damn heavy it was I said uh oh. I'm just trying to level down some concrete. But nah, I think I'll send it back. I got two power tools already; a drill and a jigsaw, but this one looked so intimidating I came on youtube just to find myself even more intimidated to use it. Yeah, back to Amazon it goes📦

The guy is wearing handgloves while using a tool with rotating part?
What do you even mean?
He has a point. Like I never wear gloves when using a belt sander or grinder. Instead of losing just a little skin or a nail, you can lose a few fingers cause the entire glove is gonna get sucked in. I knew a guy who lost 3 fingers cause he was wearing gloves and instead of just getting a smashed fingertip or lost nail, he lost is thumb and pointer and middle finger.

Good video ,great tips, another thing to watch is the cut off wheels for metal ,try to get them with the manufacturing date stamped on them, avoid old stock because those will be more prone for breaking away, happy and safe grinding to all.
Thanks for the tip Jose!
I’ve used 20 year old pieces and they work just as well as new ones….. they weren’t even stored correctly. Old man died and his wife left them in the backyard. Then she sold me them at a yard sale for $5. It was 100 cutting wheels and over 200 grinding ones.
I cut my leg with one. So I whatched to just brush off what I know. I want to say always make sure you have the gaurd and handle. And also when I plug the thing in I make sure it is off and hold it so if it does turn on I will not bounce around.

Yep my dad had it left on from before so when he plugged it in it started spinning and cut my laminate floors up...
Very helpful instruction for a first time grinder user like me. My takeaway is, do be careful when using this tool.
Hi Jerry. I'm also a new user. A guy left this at the job-site, and I picked it up. I'm using it for...well the 2nd time, but the 1st time was way back in 2009 & I didn't have any eye/ear/hand/sleeve protections in place as I will today. I'm cutting an aluminum door guard...the one at the bottom of most doors. This is a mobile home, but the same is used on regular homes that have a wooden door. It's about a "1-mm" thick piece of aluminum, attached to the floor with screws & the screws are out. I installed this years ago, and I did it for life, so the inside frame at the bottom is holding & depressing this to hold in place...even after the screws came out...that's how perfect I figure things. I bought a metal-grinder bit-wheel -the smaller one. The carpet is still in place & it's glued down without any ease in removing it. I bent it a little to try & lift it up, but it wouldn't budge. Wish me luck!
Don't use blades or grind wheels if they've been dropped or have any cracks or anything I'm either these things explode and will send sharp pieces of shrapnel all up in your face or if they're extremely worn out
and always to see that there are no unauthorized people in your working zone!
My advice to new DIYers is that if it is your first time try to buy a weak or mini angle grinder and when you built your confidence you can go for higher amps and strong one , I have two angle grinders one cheap Chinese 10 dollars one and the other in Metabo , Believe me I carry all of my works with the cheap one . But the cheap one also is bad because the plastic is getting brittle and brakes cause danger , still I am not reach to that stage yet , also do not use your angle grinder for a long time continuously and not to forget your fatigue point that the brain get tired .
I just bought a small one as I probably won't use it for many jobs. I am fairly experienced with a circular saw now, but I take nothing for granted and hopefully reading all these comments will help fix all my head before I start using it.
thanks, I used my father's angle grinder for the first time to do a lil project, I almost flung my wood and cut my finger because the angle grinder is not properly angled smh. had learnt a lesson there.
SAFETY and PROPER USE ARE THE KEYS TO SUCCESS and you'll learn it here.
okay. never used angle grinder before, though I have used power tools, and been hurt by two because I lost concentration for less than one second each time. almost cut my hand in half in one incident, sewed up by excellent doc, but nerve damage for 25 years so far.
so, I watched this video CAREFULLY and gobbled up the comments regarding safety, too. then I went to work.
this video was an excellent introduction to the angle grinder, and the comments were of enormous value. if you are a novice with this tool, no matter how many other tools you've used, take your time absorbing the info here. It's not a lot, but you'll end up with ten fingers, which you might like to take advantage of to give this video and the commentators two high fives.
my job's done, I'm unhurt and happy to have learned how to use this powerful (say it again) powerful and incredibly useful tool.
Facts
Good advice!
The angle grinders I'm seeing in stores come with a thick, flint-like disc already attached. What is that used for?
Hi Joe,
It depends on the maker, the user manual will describe whether it’s for metal, masonry or a combo wheel. Angle grinders can be used on many different types of materials depending on the wheel you install. Hope this helps!
1:14 I realize it's just like spinning car wheels while the car doesn't move. So spinning car wheels due to high speed is bad but with an angle grinder is just what you want. You don't want to go slow because then the angle grinder is getting traction and injuries are likely to happen. In the car analogy starting off slow is important to prevent slipping and ruin the wheels.
SE45CX That just really confused me.
That made sense to me! When you start a car from stationery you don't want to be revving too hard straight away because the wheels will just turn and squeal and you won't move anywhere until they have got traction.
You don't want traction on an angle grinder because that's what causes it to snag, so start off with fast speed straight away and move steadily through whatever you are cutting to avoid snagging, am I right?
@@lazylaurablue Yes you are certainly right. You were convinced it works this way even when I didn't confirm this to you, right.
Thanks for sharing, very helpful❤
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
that was actually quite informative
I am aright handed person, while cutting metal tubes or strips, i turn the angle grinder with the disc facing towards my right side, the handle is in my left hand and the grinder body in my right, so the sparks flow straight ahead not on to my body, but i have been told thats wrong the sparks should be coming towards me , whats the correct method?
Hi There,
Sparks should always be way from you, just ensure that they are a safe distance from anything that can ignite from them. Hope this helps!
Not a good idea at 2:04. Has his hand on the handle inline with the blade and not protected behind the guard. Handle should be on top, behind the guard
Good point, that is a terrible grip.
Good basic instruction.

You're an expert on angle grinders so I gotta ask: Why are they like that LMAO
Like, why are they just giant bricks that you hold?? Power tools these days are made with all kinds of fancy tactical grips, and picatinny rail, and laser sights, and scopes, and stuff- but angle grinders are still designed like something you tie a note to and throw through a window. What's up with that? Is it just a "if it's not broke don't fix it" kinda deal?
