I was sitting ten feet from him when he sung this at the Comedy Store in Bellmore, LI. Had to be over 20 years ago ! One of the best shows I've ever seen.
"Electric Havens", released June 1, 1968, didn't get my attention (and love) till the fall of '68 when a summer love wanted her Senior year freedom, and I got one of "those" letters. I like both Havens' and Nanci Griffith's versions so much better than Dylan's original. Dylan just sang the song. Havens and Griffith both felt it. I still need a tissue when listening. Thanks for posting for all to enjoy.
I saw Dylan perform this live at the (L.A.) Palladium sometime in the 1990s. I wasn't into his early stuff and had never heard it before. It knocked me out. Amazing song, and I love Richie's version, too.
@@Teddyb1939 Seville guitar expo 1992 is a great case in point, also 68 BBC if you can find it as it's on RUclips but this guy is talking rubbish Bob felt everything he recorded or wouldn't have released it. Just different people singing in their own style!
Amazing version with Richie's voice and guitar of course also the flute, percussion, lead and bass guitars and harmonica make it really unique and free flowing
Once Richie Havens comes into place, then every song goes to another stage of singing. Boots of Spanish Leather. Why that? First his feeling of a melody. Second his singing the lyrics. Third his unique guitar playing. Forth his pure appearance. Fifth his look. Sixth how he grabs a song intirely and makes it his own song. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.) Impossible to overstate the impact of Haven's beautiful voice upon my generation . I will love him forever . I will never forget him !
Richie Havens' overflowing humanity made the songs he took up become deeper and more beautiful . He left us riches.

From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan.
Now that’s an interesting take on Dylan’s cool tune.
I have the LP from when I was in college in the mid 60's. One of my favorite albums. I wish it was still available in another format.

Thank you so much for posting! Been waiting... I KNEW that a Kindred Soul would do this! Gracias!
Richie and several other artists have covered this Dylan tune. For me, Richie does it best.
Beautiful version. Saw Richie years ago at The festival Hall, good show, Richie got excited with his music ,destroyed chairs,
This makes chill bumps run crazy.
