Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP), also known as fiber reinforced polymer, is i a
composite material constituting a polymer matrix blended with certain reinforcing materials, such as fibers.
These composite materials typically exhibit low weight and high strength. They are so strong that the Cooling Tower industry is increasingly interested in using them to replace conventional material like wood and metal. Fiber reinforced plastics can be as strong as some metals but they are much lighter and therefore more energy efficient.
Casing, basin and some components of cooling towers are made up of FRP, which is highly corrosion resistant and gives sufficient structural strength, to withstand high wind velocity and vibration.
