  • Welcome back to the Born from Fire Daily Diary! Today, we enter a crucial phase in the creation of “The Golden Chain” exhibition-molding the heated metal into its final forms. This is where raw power meets refined technique, and where Matias Di Carlo’s vision begins to take tangible shape.
    Today’s Highlight:
Molding Metal: Shaping Vision into Reality
The workshop buzzes with energy as Matias Di Carlo moves from the forge to the anvil, where the true artistry of metalworking unfolds. The metal, now glowing red-hot, is pliable and ready to be shaped. With each calculated strike of the hammer, Matias bends, twists, and molds the iron, steel, and copper into forms that echo both the rugged landscape of Telluride and his creative imagination.
Molding metal is a dance between control and letting go-a delicate balance where the material’s natural properties guide the process as much as the artist’s intent. The heat softens the metal, but it’s Matias’s expertise that breathes life into it, coaxing out shapes that seem to emerge organically from the material. Every hammer blow is precise, each movement deliberate, as the raw metal transforms into intricate patterns and bold forms. This process is both physically demanding and artistic alchemy, as Matias pushes the boundaries of what these materials can become.
    What’s Next:
Tomorrow, we’ll focus on the cooling process, where the sculptures solidify into their final state, capturing the essence of both the material and the artist’s vision.
    Until tomorrow,
Matias Di Carlo | INTROXPERT | The Steeprock Joinery Team | Telluride Arts District
