Minecraft is a super popular sandbox multiplayer game that enables you to easily self-host your own servers.
Throughout this video, we will be showing you how to download and install the latest version of the server and then set it up so that it will start on boot. We will also be showing you how you can use virtual screens to retain access to your Minecraft server's command line interface even while it runs in the background.
Linux based operating systems such as Ubuntu are a great OS to host a Minecraft Java Edition server as they typically have significantly lower overhead when compared to Windows.
One huge advantage of using Linux OS like Ubuntu server is that it really opens you up to a huge number of cheap VPS providers as you don't need as much RAM to get a Minecraft server running.
If you are after a good VPS provider, we personally use DigitalOcean for the vast majority of our hosting needs.
