    Absolutely fantastic tutorial! Makes learning process so much easier with deeper understanding on what is actually going on there. I tried to learn how to play this song using a sheet music awhile ago, and I failed miserably. The score was out of my league and too complicated, at least I thought that was. The way you teach this makes it impossible to forget and sounds great! Thank you Christian, you are a great teacher.

    The story goes that many ABBA songs were "born" in a simple cottage on a tiny Baltic Sea island. I don't know if "The Winner" belongs to those. You worked out the very basic ideas so well that I can very easily imagine the situation, jamming over some simple diatonic chord progression. And later finalized at Polar studio in Stockholm. Thank you for your journey into the core of that song👍.

    Unbalanced tutorial...The first half of the tutorial is clear,comprehensible,easy to play for an intermediate,but the second part and moreover the last third is more like a speed run to the end of the piece, with all this complicated plated chords even more out of reach than a Bach sheet!!!!!
    It's too bad that your sheet is not downloadable....Thanks for your work anyway....

    • @christianklikovits
      @christianklikovits  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Denys, sorry to hear you found this partly confusing. I think some of it is due to the fact that Benny Andersson's piano playing is just very complex; I already simplified it quite a bit. Here's a link to a PDF, hopefully that helps a little: drive.google.com/file/d/1Vlv_oaSolRl3_6YD7VplyjazFHBAy4Pd/view?usp=drive_link

      Hi Chris,thanks a lot for the Pdf download....It will probably help me till bar 50....After,till bar 68,it's out of reach for me....And you say you've simplified it!!!....I wonder what would it look like if you hadn't!!!....
      This is my 5th year of piano,and I've learned relatively easyly the Moonlight sonata,the Turkish march,and a few Chopin's Préludes,and I get stuck with this Abba piece....Weird!!!!....Have a pleasant day,and a wave from Paris,France@@christianklikovits

      @@denyshenriquez-ohme7373 Who would have thought that ABBA could be more challenging than Mozart 😀 Interestingly, the bars you mentioned are something you might totally find in a classical piece...

      You're right.....Like the 2nd movement of Beethoven's "Sonate Pathétique" probably...For the time being above my level,except the first part(my instructor rates the sonata grade 8/9)...I've browsed through various tutorials of the Abba song,and the playability really depends on the arrangements...Even basic melodies(Mozart's Twinkle twinkle little for example) are arranged to be only played by advanced performers,when it's so easy to play with the Alberti bases....But I always try to match the tutorial with my level....
      Anyway,I'll try to make the best of your tutorial along with the score....

      Hi Sandra, I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Almost everything I play in the video is shown in notation on the screen so you could just screen shot that. The only exception is one little verse part, where I was demonstrating how to improvise the accompaniment using the chord shapes that the notation is showing; the whole idea there is to improvise it, and not play it the same way every time...

It is the perfect blend of not giving the audience only the finished product, like a piano cover, but instead, giving food for thought on how to approach all music and its components; much like special ingredients in a well-made dish can explain how they might translate into other great dishes.
