- Опубликовано: 20 июл 2019
- The official music video for David Bowie - Space Oddity (2019 Mix). Part of the celebration for the song's 50th anniversary.
Originally taken from Bowie's 2nd studio album 'David Bowie' released in 1969 (aka Space Oddity), of which this was the only single.
The video features never before released footage of David Bowie performing Space Oddity at his 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden in 1997. It is directed by Tim Pope, and includes footage shot and directed by Eduaord Lock, the founder and choreographer of the Montreal dance troupe La La La Human Steps, for the on screen back drop of Bowie’s 1990 Sound & Vision tour.
The 1990 footage was projected on to the large screens throughout the Sound & Vision tour, featuring David effectively performing Space Oddity with himself, a performance replicated at his 50th Birthday Concert. The audio that accompanies the video is the new 2019 mix of Space Oddity by longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti.

Lyrics:
Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown,
engines on
Check ignition
and may God's love be with you
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff
This is Ground Control
to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
if you dare
This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past
one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead,
there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....
Here am I floating
round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

I still can't move on with knowledge that this man is not with us anymore. It's hard to think that its been more than 3 years but his legacy lives as so does he in all of us.
hes with us
I feel the same! ❤
When you look up in the night sky , you will see him , he is The STAR MAN ,Always with us Eternally ♥️⚘
Vinson merci🤟
Milan he is not gone .....let him in your heart every day and he will lift you up 😊😘
“If you're sad today, just remember the world is over 4 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie.”
-Simon Pegg
Great quote, but Simon Pegg never said it.
Toliko emocija....I tako vec 50 godina..Mojih 50 ....SVE je imao....I sve nam je dao.Veeeeliki deo mog zivota je oplemenio.....Hvalaaaaaa.....
I have a proper job. Rock god.
@@MurderCapital666 Oh you've gone and done it now. Figured I would get some clapback about either leaving out who said the quote or somebody figuring out it wasn't Pegg. I don't really care who first said that... it was more to avoid anybody thinking I came up with that or that I was trying to steal it. This has nothing to do with Simon Pegg, you, or I. This is about Bowie.
In the day he left us someone wrote this to me, consoled me in my sadness at the time, an still does, he was the brightest ⭐️
This is such a fitting tribute to David Bowie and 50 years since the first release of Space Oddity. Thank you Tony Visconti and Tim Pope.
You missed Mick Ronson
@@halfpricejaffacakes And Mick Ronson!
@@halfpricejaffacakes Love Mick Ronson and the whole Bowie line-up, but was just acknowledging director of the video and the producer of the 2019 remix. I think they've done a great job.
Love that the video features footage from db’s 50th birthday bash. Nice touch.

Come together, right now...RIP John Lennon and George Harrison.

Wow 444th Like and 4th comment😃
I agree, nothing is the same anymore, since all the greats have past, except one or two .
Most of us never met him, but we miss him so much. Because he's David Bowie ❤
Never met him but I saw him in concert 1983 in my hometown VANCOUVER B.C ♥️
I feel the same! Feel like i've lost a member of my family! The real artist conect us with him forever!
HE IS LEGEND ! HE IS MY ROCK STAR 🌟 !
true that, missed indeed..❤
We miss him because there's nothing to fill the gaping musical void
Today, 21 of July 2019 David Bowie came back from mars to give us this new version of one of his greatest songs
💞
Bless you
Its not a "new version".
Its just a remaster, (not really a 'remix'. Everything in this is still the same old track and sounds) and a video edited from two old videos.
Just freshened up a bit for the anniversary, that's all.
@@lefunk22 Thank's Bro for killing the magic
When he said "Tell my wife I love her very much, she knows." I felt that. I'd imagine she misses him dearly
One of the greatest artists of all time.
No argument from me, Larry.

unlike many artists, i don’t think any of david bowie’s hits are overrated. all of them are still amazing after being played a million times on the radio and we all still love love them. i’ll never get sick of david bowie and his hypnotizing voice
So true! He is the only musician that I can listen to repetitively without getting tired of hearing his voice.
I met him and got his autograph on my program when he performed in The Elephant Man! I was beyond mesmerized! Loved him!
Pia Haas lucky you.
OMG you are so lucky. people forget he was also a great actor. He got great reviews on Broadway for his role in The Elephant man. Love to hear your review.
i never met him but i miss him
so weird
I got to touch him, best moment of my life
@@Skittenmeow I met him, shook his hand and talked to him in 2002. He signed me an autograph. He had an aura about him...such piercing eyes...a gentle smile. I'll love him for ever and ever.

The most beautiful star in the universe, Bowie. Forever missed, may you shine bright up there. 🚀👨🏻🎤🎸💫❤️
3 1/2 years. Wow! But he will be a part of my life forever!
👨🎤🚀⚡
Forever The brightest of the bright star in the Heavens The STARMAN will Live on Eternally ❤️
👨🏻🎤4EVER IN OUR SOULS
Bowie's legacy has been put in such good hands. Think of all the material we've gotten in the time since he's passed. Remasters, re-releases, remixes, rare footage and music, and new footage and music. What a treasure to be a fan.
Bowie never did anything cheaply, including dying and leaving his legacy in good hands.
LOL yea OK now where's box set 5
The only people that don’t butcher a beloved person’s legacy. Cough cough Nickelodeon
'The stars look very different today..'
Indeed they do. We miss you David. ❤❤
Planet Earth is Blue and theres nothing I can do!
And the stars look very different today! Hahahahahaaha
well there is water pollution
Jason Decker Music Well, we can vote blue, if we’re American citizens.
Jason Decker Music and later in the song it becomes ‘planet earth is blue and there’s nothing left to poo’ :D
Apparently you can speed the fucking song up to account for attention deficit disordered millennials
It was first released as a 7-inch single on 11 July 1969, about a week before Apollo 11 landed on the moon.
Joe Postove He was always ahead of his time. ❤️
@@Bowiefan4ever Now he's ahead of us by a lifetime. I don't know about the afterlife.. but for Bowie and the greats, I'll keep hope. I'll keep hope that there's something on the other side of them that is special. Something that they can rest in peace with. ..Fuck, I miss David Bowie so much and I never got into him until AFTER he died. Am I a peice of shit for that? I feel horrible.
Ooooohhhhh I got 69th like
@@Bowiefan4ever- I would argue that this song was a product of its time rather being hugely ahead, and to me that's just as beautiful. 2001: A Space Odyssey was released by Kubrick on the 2nd April, 1968 and the Apollo 11 lunar mission was announced by Kennedy almost 8 years before it happened on 25th May, 1961.
The environment of the 1960s was charged with the energy of man's ascent into space. The ability of an artist to define his time by encapsulating it in under 5 minutes is a task that not many people can acheive and certainly not with the style that Bowie could.
And the BBC Radio didn't broadcast it until moon landing was successful
I feel exactly the same ! He has left an intersideral void behind him ! He IS Major Tom, forever ever floating among the stars ... Love him so much...
Just an *excellent* remix! The volume adjustments made to the synth, backing vocals, bass, and crashes bring so much more to the song, and the delay they put on "Lift off" is such a dramatic, yet so very welcome addition. The whole song got coated with just the right amount of reverb, and the transitions between the parts of the song (i.e. chorus to acoustic guitar solo) are PERFECT. If you haven't listened to this in stereo, you might as well just not have listened to this mix. Gotta find out who produced this ASAP!
I'm pretty sure it was Tony's Visconti, Bowie's long-term collaborator, bassist and producer. He's amazing!
No matter how many times you listen to space oddity it will never get old

He is alive I can still feel him so strongly. Whether that be alive in human form or just the power of his magic that resides in all our consciousness.
It was a great video. Well done to those who put it together. Much better than the other videos for this wonderful song.
He never gonna die

If you see a much brighter star in the heaven's ...well you know who that is 😌
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do.
He predicted the fall of music quality and the adoration of truly awful artists who have little skill!
Bowie is looking down on us & smiling.

I’m still not over David Bowie’s passing and this video made me tear up. It’s so beautiful, as if he’s watching over us. Thank you for this video. David would have loved this, I’m sure.
He went too young.
From Brixton like my dad and raised in Bromley like me respect to Bowie your a legend especially round here
We went to the same Infant School, Stockwell Jnr Mixed, I grew up in Chantrey Road, behind where he lived in Stansfield Road 😪
I'm come from Vauxhall just up the road from Brixton and my friends lived in stansfield road Brixton, I also worked in Morleys department store where David's tribute is painted, I take flowers quite often 😢🎸💥💥
What a simply beautiful song this is. David Bowie was a legend.
Raymond Vanhoenacker correction is a legend !!!!
There's a Starman, waiting in the sky.
Let all the Children boogie.
Hard to believe this song is 50 years old now. It could have been written yesterday. Like Bowie himself, It is timeless.

DaViD BowiE thank you so much for all the beatifull song....no one can compares to you
I listened to this song for the first time in 2013.
I had never listened to David Bowie songs before, and, after that moment, it was magic.
It was genuine love at first sight, I am still listening to his songs today, I miss him so much, and felt so bad when he passed away...
But I think He's eternal, everybody knows that he just went through space for his next mission...
Thank you for everything, Bowie!
We'll tell your wife you love her very much
DAVID BOWIE, Thank You so very much for giving that to us!
It’s so very appreciated! ❤️
That is absolutely beautiful! Really nice video mixing his 50th Birthday event into it! Bowie forever!
David was an artist that just constantly inspired everyone in his lifetime, and even afterwards still does! He brought forth such imagination and inspiration to the musical community like none other before! It's sad he passed away a week after releasing his last album "Blackstar", but we'll all remember him for every single happy memory he has ever brought us!
This song means so much more to me now!! The way he sings about having to leave and hoping that his wife knows he loves her...and planet earth is becoming bluer and there’s nothing he can do 😥
What a beautiful piece of film! David would be proud ♥️
Im a day late but,
