  • The official music video for David Bowie - Space Oddity (2019 Mix). Part of the celebration for the song's 50th anniversary.
Originally taken from Bowie's 2nd studio album 'David Bowie' released in 1969 (aka Space Oddity), of which this was the only single.
The video features never before released footage of David Bowie performing Space Oddity at his 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden in 1997. It is directed by Tim Pope, and includes footage shot and directed by Eduaord Lock, the founder and choreographer of the Montreal dance troupe La La La Human Steps, for the on screen back drop of Bowie’s 1990 Sound & Vision tour.
The 1990 footage was projected on to the large screens throughout the Sound & Vision tour, featuring David effectively performing Space Oddity with himself, a performance replicated at his 50th Birthday Concert. The audio that accompanies the video is the new 2019 mix of Space Oddity by longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti.

    Lyrics:
    Ground Control to Major Tom
    Ground Control to Major Tom
    Take your protein pills
    and put your helmet on
    Ground Control to Major Tom
    Commencing countdown,
    engines on
    Check ignition
and may God's love be with you
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff
    This is Ground Control
    to Major Tom
    You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
    if you dare
This is Major Tom to Ground Control
    I'm stepping through the door
    And I'm floating
    in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
    For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
    Far above the world
    Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
    Though I'm past
    one hundred thousand miles
    I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
    she knows
    Ground Control to Major Tom
    Your circuit's dead,
    there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
    Can you....
    Here am I floating
    round my tin can
    Far above the Moon
    Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
    About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

@@MurderCapital666 Oh you've gone and done it now. Figured I would get some clapback about either leaving out who said the quote or somebody figuring out it wasn't Pegg. I don't really care who first said that... it was more to avoid anybody thinking I came up with that or that I was trying to steal it. This has nothing to do with Simon Pegg, you, or I. This is about Bowie.

@@Bowiefan4ever- I would argue that this song was a product of its time rather being hugely ahead, and to me that's just as beautiful. 2001: A Space Odyssey was released by Kubrick on the 2nd April, 1968 and the Apollo 11 lunar mission was announced by Kennedy almost 8 years before it happened on 25th May, 1961.
The environment of the 1960s was charged with the energy of man's ascent into space. The ability of an artist to define his time by encapsulating it in under 5 minutes is a task that not many people can acheive and certainly not with the style that Bowie could.

Just an *excellent* remix! The volume adjustments made to the synth, backing vocals, bass, and crashes bring so much more to the song, and the delay they put on "Lift off" is such a dramatic, yet so very welcome addition. The whole song got coated with just the right amount of reverb, and the transitions between the parts of the song (i.e. chorus to acoustic guitar solo) are PERFECT. If you haven't listened to this in stereo, you might as well just not have listened to this mix. Gotta find out who produced this ASAP!

I listened to this song for the first time in 2013.
I had never listened to David Bowie songs before, and, after that moment, it was magic.
It was genuine love at first sight, I am still listening to his songs today, I miss him so much, and felt so bad when he passed away...
But I think He's eternal, everybody knows that he just went through space for his next mission...
    Thank you for everything, Bowie!

David was an artist that just constantly inspired everyone in his lifetime, and even afterwards still does! He brought forth such imagination and inspiration to the musical community like none other before! It's sad he passed away a week after releasing his last album "Blackstar", but we'll all remember him for every single happy memory he has ever brought us!
