  • Shree Sahasralingeshwara Temple, Uppinangadi | Dharma Degula Darshana
Shri Sahasralingeshwara temple, known as dakshina kashi is one of the oldest temple. At the confluence of the Netravati and the Kumaradhara rivers, is the Sahasra linga, the Thousand Linga Temple.
Legend says that Bheema, the strongest of Pandavas was attacked by a giant animal. when Bheema was being chased, he removed a hair and dropped down. This hair turned into a linga, Bheema continued this act throughout his run. Now, the Giant animal who was a devotee of lord Shiva, took a pause to offer worship to each and every Linga. This way Bheema had an esape. Hence the temple has around 1000 Lingas located in the banks of the river.
During annual festival, the sand is removed and a temporary structure is constructed of Lord Sahasralingeshwara. It is very difficult to remove the entire sand covering the lingas every year as it gets filled during rainy seasons.
This temple is the place where two sacred rivers Kumaradhara and Netravati meet each other. The place is called Sangam. Devotees do a holy dip durin the monsoon every year.
