I currently have about 4 HTML codes in my ecommerce code/theme. "Google Tag Manager", "Global Site tag" (with my google ads AW code), "Global Site Tag" (with my GA4 measurement ID), and "Global Site Tag" (with my UA conversion ID). I hope I said that right. BUT..... is that okay??
Questions. If we've been using UA with google tag manager and now ready to implement G4. Should a new Google Tag be created and used along with the other Google Tag for the UA? Should the new G4 be setup in a separate container or it's okay to just add to the existing UA container? Seems I'm getting mixed messages.

Thanks Jason. I do know I can come back to review it, however. Question: If you have multiple businesses and websites what is the best way to structure Google Tag Manager and Google Ads Accounts?
Thank you and sorry to hear I feel short in some parts.... 1) if there is no new URL for the contact form, then you'll need to create a trigger for the button click. It's different for every plug-in and some don't even allow for it which is why it's left out of many of these videos. I'd do a search 'Contact Form Plugin Name + Tag Manager' or 'Trigger' to see if there is a tutorial how to do it for your specific plug-in. 2) For separate business, each business should have it's own account. Hi Jason, I have a research page with a list of PDFs. I managed to set up a trigger tag in GTM to track PDF clicks, however, I do not know which specific PDF/research is being clicked on. Is there a way to track the PDF name/text link title?
There is a way to look at your data layer to see which one is being clicked. You may want to setup a separate event in analytics for each link if you need to see them individually.
Omg! So much of this info went straight over my head! Why does Google make this so confusing for newbies lìke me? I'm gonna have to watch this video 10x I've heard that Google will ban your account for certain reasons but I don't know what they are. It was suggested that I make 3 accounts just in case 1 gets banned. Is this possible? There's a wealth of information here! Thank you so much 😊
Hope this helps tone down a bit of the overwhelm for ya... It is a lot at once. I would not make multiple accounts at once. Google is not as quick to ban as Facebook so unless you have a sensitive business offering; you should be fine.
Great walk through! I now have a much better understanding of how to use Google Tags and integrate Facebook pixel for events. I assume LinkedIn has its own pixel? What about Twitter? Am saving this video for reference as I'm sure I'll be making use of the tips soon. One more question... When assigning triggers, is there an option to give them custom names or are we restricted to the titles in the drop down list? Thanks
Awesome to hear it was so helpful! Yes, LinkedIn and Twitter have their own codes. You'll just use the 'Custom Code' element talked about in the second to last section and have it fire on all pages. In Tag Manager you can assign the name whatever you like when creating the trigger. If you're referring to the playbook, that drop down is just to remind you what stage of the funnel that trigger is for - you can give it whatever name you'd like in the Playbook as well. Thanks so much for watching!
I wanna ask if we have many other conversion tracking we need to set up, we have to go to GTM to complete or we could do it individually on the specific ads platform we are using?
For each platform you decide to run traffic on. At minimum adding the Google ads re-marketing tag and Facebook pixel will allow you to start collecting data for future advertising.
Yes and yes. That's what we do for every site we work on. We treat the two as two separate platforms because they are right now. So yes, you 'double track' but you want both platforms tracking at the same time.
@@JasonAWhaling Thanks, Jason. I was concerned about double-counting page views. It happened before and I was advised that it was because both UA and GA4 were running at the same time, and I had to remove GA4. I think there was a bug with GA4 then, but I understand now that both do run independently.
Those are there for you to save the urls of your important funnel steps - landing pages, confirmation pages, and then any links you want to be sharing in your emails.
Thanks very much for this Jason. Really helpful video. I like your presenting style and tone which seem very natural and relaxed. For me personally with a Weebly website, things were not as straightforward as the example of a pagebuilder that you gave. Weebly provides a place to add 'header' and 'footer' code but not 'body' code. So I had to edit the code in the theme - which I had to learn how to do separately. With the Chrome Tag Assistant I can now see Tag Manager is installed on my website. However Chrome Tag Assistant is not showing my Analytics and Facebook tags.. However, I have also looked in 'preview' mode of Tag Manager and that is showing that Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel are installed on my website and firing. I am wondering if the Chrome Tag Assistant is pretty unsophisticated... not able to work properly on Weebly? And wondering whether 'preview' and debugging mode on Tag Manager - is more reliable? In future I'd really appreciate if you have the opportunity, to relate any of your videos to Weebly - as there is a real shortage of good videos to help Weebly site owners with these kind of tracking aspects.
Wow, I'd say that's a failure on Weebly's part. They should know that people want to add tracking to their websites. Congrats on figuring out how to to get it onto your site properly! For the Tag Assistant issue, if the container is published and the preview shows them firing then I'd wait a few days to see if data comes through analytics. If it doesn't, just means the chrome plug-in is having some issues as you thought. Thanks so much for watching and thank you for your kind words on the video!
Hi Jason, I have a problem because I want to add a lead tag (google adds conversion, min 32) but I have a Ninja form plugin in my site. The thing is that when someone clicks the "send" button, the URL doesnt change. It only shows a confirmation message in the screen but URL stays the same
Yikes! That means you will have to configure the tag to fire when someone clicks the button - I suggest searching for a blog post that shows you exactly how to do that with Ninja forms - since every plug-in is different. Something like 'Ninja Forms Conversion Tracking" or "Ninja Forms Google Tag Manager"
Hi Jason, brilliant video thank you! I was originally trying to avoid tag manager because I thought it would be too hard, but you've proved me wrong. I have one question though: I've added the remarketing tag but tag assistant says "to validate please enter feed ID" - I could only find one answer online which said it was my google merchant ID (I have an e-commerce website with shopping campaigns set up) but that did not seem to fix it. Do you have any ideas as to what it's asking for? Is this a case of google asking me for the feed I'm using in my remarketing campaigns, but because I am currently not doing any remarketing there is simply nothing to add? Thanks once again.
So, I'm not the one on my team who sets up the merchant center so I'm not the person to ask.... What it sounds like is you need to go to your Google Ads account and look at your notifications. It sounds like Google Ads hasn't been able to verify some connection with your product feed.... Sorry I can't be more helpful on this one; we have a developer who does this
Thanks so much for this tutorial, big respect for you dude! I learned a lot more from your tutorial than trying to read up on how to use GTM on the internet somewhere else. Question: Is it possible to configure a conversion specific to a button on a website using GTM? Is it also possible to set up a trigger that the tag only triggers on that button if certain requirements are met to count as a conversion (for example, a user needs to fill in their name and email first in order for the tag to trigger when pressing on the button). Thanks so much or your help!
Happy to help and hope the rest of your GTM install went smoothly. Answer: Yes, you can setup a trigger to fire when someone clicks a specific button on the page. However, you can't have GTM only fire if someone actually filled out that form; it's better to have a confirmation page so that you can set the conversion tag to fire on that page load
Hi Jason. Great videos. Can't seam to see the Google Form Submit Tags in the Tag Assistant. We have used various ways in adding the header and body code but still nothing. Not sure what to do anymore. Please advise.
Wow, that's not cool. If your site builder doesn't allow for this then your just out of luck unless you can manually access the header tag of your site :( Hopefully they have a way for you to at least get Google Analytics on there... Thanks for watching and sorry I don't have a better solution for ya
Another excellent masterpiece! thank you so much, Sir! I was wandering can we make use of Facebook Pixel even if we do not use Facebook Ad? Would you mind throwing some light into it? Thanks again!! for this great content
Well, if you ever decide to advertise on FB in the future, you'll be glad you have all of that data. After that there isn't an advantage because the FB analytics feature is going away by the end of the summer :(
Hi Jason, thank you so much for the awesome helpful video. I have 2 questions for you: 1- Should I delete my tracking codes before or right after installing each platform's tag on GTM? 2- In my case the only platform I had setup before GTM was Analytics, and thus I should delete the code from the website after having GTM installed. My question is, will the data tracked until now be deleted on the Analytics platform if i delete the code from the website? or because I have already setup GTM, the previous data collected will not be lost? Thank you so much for your help!
1) Delete them right after. You want to make sure the new system is 100% before removing the old one. 2) No - All the data inside of Analytics will stay there. Only the code on your site is disappearing. So just make sure your code is in GTM before removing the other one and you'll be good to go
If I started an Account in Tag Manager - before I watched your tutorial (following another's not great advice) - would there be a problem if I deleted the account and recreated it following your approach?
You can start over from scratch. Just make sure that you have this one completely ready, before installing and deleting the other one so you don't lose data.... So in your case, setup the new tag manager BEFORE adding it to your site. Then when all your codes are ready, add the NEW GTM code and remove the old
Hello Jason, what happens if when I set up a conversion in Google Ads there is no button to use Google Tag Manager. The only buttons I see are the ones that say "Install the Tag Yourself" and "Email the Tag."
17:57 - Facebook Pixel When you select tag manager and log-in, the Facebook pixel is automatically published through Tag Manager. You don't need to install it separately on your site. You didn't miss anything; it just happened instantly
Using Google Tag Asst in Wordpress to install analytics, you clicked on (or left the default at) “put in footer - not recommended.” Is this OK - to put the GA tag in the footer instread of header? This has always confused me. Thanks for a very helpful video.
If you weren't the one who installed it in the past; then you'll have to ask who did where they put the code.... Tag Manager goes in the same place as Google Analytics so you should be able to see the old GA code in the same place your now installing GTM.
@@JasonAWhaling I was the one who installed it years ago, so of course, I have no recollection of how I did that. I tried to find the GA code as you suggested, but I don't see it. I obviously don't know what I'm doing.
Hmmmm...why my google ads conversion tracking not appear in google tag assistant? At first it appear then after a few refresh it disappear. Does this normal?
What would give you the idea that you wouldn't need to connect ads to gtm if your goal is to use gtm? Do you think linking ads to analytics has anything to do with gtm? Honestly what kind of questions are these..
@@JasonAWhaling of course you do you have a financial interest in it. Folks take it from someone who's tried it and has no financial interest in it - that service is trash

Hi Jason, is it possible to create two tags, one UA and another GA4 in the same container? Will it double-count everything?
Yes and yes. That's what we do for every site we work on. We treat the two as two separate platforms because they are right now. So yes, you 'double track' but you want both platforms tracking at the same time.
@@JasonAWhaling Thanks, Jason. I was concerned about double-counting page views. It happened before and I was advised that it was because both UA and GA4 were running at the same time, and I had to remove GA4. I think there was a bug with GA4 then, but I understand now that both do run independently.
This has been sooooo helpful! One question. In the pdf, I'm not sure what to do with page 5? Thanks again for all the info!
It helps me a lot thank you so much
Happy to help! You've got this!
Hi Jason,
I have a problem because I want to add a lead tag (google adds conversion, min 32) but I have a Ninja form plugin in my site.
That sounds okay to me. If you ever decide to put your GA4 or UA code inside of tag manager; that's when you'll delete them.
Sorry I can't be more helpful on this one; we have a developer who does this
@@JasonAWhaling Thanks for the reply mate, I'll look into it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Happy to help! Hope your tags are all set
this is amazing thank you so much
Hope your all setup with Tag Manager! Thanks for watching!
Hi Jason. Great videos. Can't seam to see the Google Form Submit Tags in the Tag Assistant. We have used various ways in adding the header and body code but still nothing. Not sure what to do anymore. Please advise.
I'm not aware of a way to track Google Forms Submits with Tag Manager
Hello. Your videos are best. I can't installed Google Tag Manager On My Website (I have GoDaddy) What can i to do? Thank you very Much...
Wow, that's not cool. If your site builder doesn't allow for this then your just out of luck unless you can manually access the header tag of your site :(
Hopefully they have a way for you to at least get Google Analytics on there... Thanks for watching and sorry I don't have a better solution for ya
Thank You for this.
Happy to help! Hope you are all set with Tag Manager now!
After that there isn't an advantage because the FB analytics feature is going away by the end of the summer :(
@@JasonAWhaling Thank you so much for the valuable information. Then I will skip the FB pixel part of your tutorial.
Hi Jason, thank you so much for the awesome helpful video.
I have 2 questions for you:
1- Should I delete my tracking codes before or right after installing each platform's tag on GTM?
2- In my case the only platform I had setup before GTM was Analytics, and thus I should delete the code from the website after having GTM installed. My question is, will the data tracked until now be deleted on the Analytics platform if i delete the code from the website? or because I have already setup GTM, the previous data collected will not be lost?
Thank you so much for your help!
1) Delete them right after. You want to make sure the new system is 100% before removing the old one.
2) No - All the data inside of Analytics will stay there. Only the code on your site is disappearing. So just make sure your code is in GTM before removing the other one and you'll be good to go
@@JasonAWhaling thank you so much!
where do you get the google tag manager playbook from?
Check out the description for a link to download it!
so helpful, thank you!!
Happy to help! Hope your all good to go with Tag Manager!
Then when all your codes are ready, add the NEW GTM code and remove the old
excellant thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Hello Jason, what happens if when I set up a conversion in Google Ads there is no button to use Google Tag Manager. The only buttons I see are the ones that say "Install the Tag Yourself" and "Email the Tag."
You no longer need tag manager for the google ads tag. You have to install it right onto your site.
Great job!!!
Thank you!
Good advice about influencers. Thank you
Happy to help! Good luck with your campaigns!
Just starting out, tell me how effective such advertising is?
Google ads or Facebook ads is a good place to start
Do i need install facebook pixel in my website or direct add event. Because you skip on installing facebook pixel. Beginner here
17:57 - Facebook Pixel
When you select tag manager and log-in, the Facebook pixel is automatically published through Tag Manager. You don't need to install it separately on your site. You didn't miss anything; it just happened instantly
How about tiktok pixel? Did the same method like facebook pixel?
For some reason my conversion action is not showing up on the thank you page. Any ideas why not?
If it's not showing up in the plug-in double check the container has been published since the changes were made.
Using Google Tag Asst in Wordpress to install analytics, you clicked on (or left the default at) “put in footer - not recommended.” Is this OK - to put the GA tag in the footer instread of header? This has always confused me. Thanks for a very helpful video.
Oh, that sounds like a mistake on my part! It's best to have it in the header and not the footer
@@JasonAWhaling So how do you do that using GTM?
Could you do a video how to add this google tag manager on go daddy please? 🙏🏽
Thank you for the suggestion! I've never used them before
Man. Thank you. I dont even know what to say hahaha
🙏🙌 Awesome! Hope you have things all set now!
You said in the video, "if you have Google analytics installed someplace else, take it off now." How do you do that?
If you weren't the one who installed it in the past; then you'll have to ask who did where they put the code.... Tag Manager goes in the same place as Google Analytics so you should be able to see the old GA code in the same place your now installing GTM.
@@JasonAWhaling I was the one who installed it years ago, so of course, I have no recollection of how I did that. I tried to find the GA code as you suggested, but I don't see it. I obviously don't know what I'm doing.
Thanks brother for sharing, I am your subscriber and use your affiliate links. God bless!
Aye, man - God bless as well! thanks for subbing and clicking those links! 🔥 Appreciate it!
Hmmmm...why my google ads conversion tracking not appear in google tag assistant? At first it appear then after a few refresh it disappear. Does this normal?
If they don't show up there, then the code isn't on your site :(
Hello, does this work with big cartel?
Not sure I understand the question... This can work for any size business
I think I made a mistake and I have 2 meta pixels but not sure which one is right and which one needs to be removed
So inside of Google Tag Manager look at the list of tags. Just delete one of the pixels and you'll be good to go
can't you ad the code snippet to your site just using the site kit by google
Yes, you can use that plug-in to install GTM along with other Google products
If I have linked my Google Ads account to GA4 do I still need to add the Google Ads tag to Tag Manager?
Yes! You need both!
What would give you the idea that you wouldn't need to connect ads to gtm if your goal is to use gtm? Do you think linking ads to analytics has anything to do with gtm? Honestly what kind of questions are these..
@@ebooklibrary27 These are questions from somebody who was learning how to use it for the first time.
Free Tag Manager Playbook: is not working?
Its not working for me either
Thank you for letting me know! The link has been changed and should work now
Mailerlite is trash.. Total waste of your time
Completely disagree
@@JasonAWhaling of course you do you have a financial interest in it.
Folks take it from someone who's tried it and has no financial interest in it - that service is trash
Why brother ? There's an alternative ?
😆 I don't know what you believe my business model to be, but I have very little financial interest in recommending them. I recommend what I use.

When using google tag assistant, the small icon is yellow in the top of my chrome window but when i click on it to see the reports, there are no yellow icons (only blue and green) Is there something that I could be missing?
Doesn't sound like an issue. As long as you see the colors of the individual tags as blue or green you are good to go
@@JasonAWhaling thank you! Love your tutorials!
