This album came in the perfect moment in my life, where I'm trying to forgive myself for my mistakes, getting to process my emotions, beginning to live again, like in Genesis, and all the other songs. It's almost scary! I just can't be grateful enough for Devin, but I'll do my part buying his music and spreading his word :)
@@Qwerty-ks8dn Which one do you refer to when you are talking about mainstream album? If you mean Empath by a mainstream album then it is hard to be farther from truth than you are.
Magnificent... Sprite is so moving to me, this "Everyone is sad" vibe is so powerful and deeply accurate... cannot wait to hear what he has to say about Why, Borderlands and of course the mighty Singularity!!! thanks ever so much Devin Townsend...
Devin thank you so much for having the guts to write Hear Me. The transition from Hear Me into Why? makes me feel lots of things that I'm very glad to feel. This whole record is so therapeutic on so many levels.
Devin nailed so many things right through his own exploration, that I feel like Empath is as close as the human race has ever got to an actual soundtrack of life. It's a wonderful piece of art, and a great human achievement.
Loving this album, especially the second half of it. Has a very acid trip vibe about it in the way that it references different styles and musical motifs as it pulls you through the journey in subtle and jarring ways. Feels like a very unique musical experience, at least from what I've encountered. Great work :)
I instantly got the heavy is a heavy reference on Sprite full circle indeed. The Cure for hate is doing something kind for the one you are fighting. The Cure for sadness is Sitting with it or laughing.
I just wish I could hear what Devin thinks about Deconstruction. I think that's his heaviest creation since Strapping. Hear Me is a heavy song but there are heavier songs in Deconstruction in my opinion.
But the two year old Devin can be heard at the beginning of Heavy Is A Really Heavy Thing, not at the end, or am I wrong? And, oh boy do I enjoy, that Devin picked this up like an old prophecy...
So what made Hear Me so much harder than Deconstruction, Ziltoid or Physicist? It seems like those were also very much brutal and angry music after SYL?
But he also did heavy stuff on deconstruction. That was way after SYL. It‘s a pity that it‘s such a hard and complex tast for him to write/enjoy heavy music. He‘s so good at it. And heavy music does not have to be negativ or dark in any way. That‘s where the lyrics come in ;)
It's weird because Deconstruction is such a heavy and manic album, but Hear Me is the first time I've heard a song since the disbandment of SYL that I've thought, "wow this sounds a lot like SYL". There's some Decon in the song as well, and more, but there's definitely elements of heavy he hasn't put out since SYL that are clear in this song, so it's cool to see him address this song in that way.
It’s all the way through the video. I thought I had blinked and saw the artwork for a minute but no, there’s flashes of the album cover through the whole thing. Kinda weird
It's not trolling. It's a youtube glitch that appears randomly in different videos. The preview image flashes for a split of second, while video is played. I've started noticing it a couple weeks ago.
I don't like Nickelback, but I think it is definitely overhated. I find it especially absurd when people who like stuff like Stone Sour still shit on Nickelback as if it is the worst band in the world. And it is actually kinda cool to see Chad participate in a project like Devin's Empath.
I apologize for the way this might come across but this stuff frustrates me so much. I just discovered devin not long ago and so far i feel like this music has been inside my head my whole life and now here i find someone articulating it so well that i want to buy physical copies of literally every thing he has created but that is a fruitless endeavor then to add to it you start reading these articles expressing concern over financial issues i feel may or may not derive from the very issue i just mentioned. Why the hell cant i find a single damn physical copy of any of the project? i doubt there are many seats empty at the shows and the merch store is severely lacking. I ask you this, how am i supposed to support the cause? I guess if i had an address i could just mail a few $20s and call it a day. T-shirts and key chains are not why we like devin its those big black and smaller silvery frisbee sorta things that cause the stereo to make that awesome noise. I respect the hell out of this man but damn it we cant help if he or whoever is in charge of getting more CDs and records made does not let us. The only way to offset piracy is kick fuckin ass at your job "which devin does to the MAX" and sell records and god damn seats at shows because piracy will never stop so like dewey cox's halved brother says "you gotta be double great, for the both of us". Please get more records and CDs made so we can buy them cause gooble them up like oprah at popeys. Ok somebody see that he gets this because someone needs to say it.
Now thats just silly. I'll most likely do that because what else is there but shouldn't the merch store be were you go to buy the MERCH. I do appreciate the tip very much, thank you.
Yeah, I don’t know why his merch store doesn’t carry much music anymore. When I first got into him twenty years ago (yeah, I’m old) it was pretty much the only place to get his stuff at all! (Any other old people remember buying Ocean Machine, Infinity, and Punky Brüster CDs way back when and getting newsletters along with them from Tracy?) Sincerely wishing you the best of luck on catching up with Dev’s wonderful discography!
Still learning to love myself. Very helpful to know others have a challenging time with that as well.
Sometimes simple acceptance goes a long way, acceptance of yourself and others. Save love for what deserves it, then work to deserve it. Love is a strong thing, don't waste it needlessly.
I feel everybody goes through this process of learning to love and understand themselves, whether they show it or not.

Most people do who are smart we ate so stupid for doing it to ourselves though
I never, ever would have predicted that one day, I would say "Thank you Chad from Nickelback, THANK YOU"
For what?
But what for? Townsend still made a mainstream album.

Loving his explanations
Timeless musical genius
It is really encouraging in a weird way to know the almighty DT is "insecure" about his own singing. Would never have guessed that
Thank you for these video series
Digging the shit out of this series, hope it'll also cover CD2 in some form even though they're "demo tracks"!
Hear Me is so damn amazing.
Holy shit that Sprote story, wow
I love Nickelback and I love Devin Townsend. Fight me, power bottoms.

Can we have a video dedicated solely to the masterpiece that is Borderlands?
MrCerebellum2 yes!!
So who''s waiting for the discussion of Why? My favourite track.
Gonna need part 3 there bud.
The man with the best male voice in the world has always been insecure about singing???
And Kanye is confident! Go figure.
I put Devin up there with guys like Akerfeldt as one of the greatest vocalists ever. He can sing beautifully and his harsh vocals are insane.
@@drummerdan95 You insult him. Townsend is superior in ever way to any of the Poopeth guys.
release part 3 already

Still sitting here waiting for #6.
So what made Hear Me so much harder than Deconstruction, Ziltoid or Physicist? It seems like those were also very much brutal and angry music after SYL?
Hear Me is fluffy compared to SYL and quite average.

Why does that black couch look so familiar....
Antz Macadamia this’ll be in Part 3
Probably because you saw some random chicks tits being splooged on while she was "unknowingly" being filmed. My best guess.
Is this the set for casting couch?
Dude I never knew that "once there was a bear, a real live bear" was Devin, I just assumed it was his son.
Finally after 20 years I know it's Dev

It's not trolling. It's a youtube glitch that appears randomly in different videos. The preview image flashes for a split of second, while video is played. I've started noticing it a couple weeks ago.

Why the subliminal flashes??? I bought it album already, not i want a tshirt, a hat, shoes and a radiator.
Bethesda is remastering Empath so you can play it on your microwave
it's just a youtube glitch
Nothing heavy since SYL? Poltergeist?
