    I would like to see a similar video but of how they are throwing in the world distance competition. Of course I could just watch those videos in .25 playback speed. But this was a supremely good video showing the many different forms but showcasing all of the similarities in what they are doing to get the disc to go 500'+

  • @temkef6124
    @temkef6124 Год назад +21

    just for some people who are trying to study form to look out for in this. You need to slow down the video to .25 to notice but the amount players hips rotate past the shoulders the more power they have. It’s like trying to lag your shoulders behind your hips. Creates more tensions to force your shoulders through. This takes an extremely long amount of time and eagles is the most obvious. You don’t throw far from the biggest run up or fastest, it’s trying to make the biggest gap between your hips and your shoulders

    • @michaelr1397
      @michaelr1397 Год назад +4

      Nobody is throwing with there hips. Stop video on release of disc. Disc just coming out of hand there hip are still perpendicular to the throw. The fallow threw leg comes around is because of stayle of throw. Force over leg comes around because you are standing more up right. Leg stays back on hyzer throw because you bend over more can stop forward momentum better.

    • @michaelr1397

      @@temkef6124 arms a noodle is funny. I have lots of slow motion throwing video on Eagle and he is not throwing hips first. Reach back make tension in body. Then fire your hips all the spring tension is gone. You end up throwing with your arm. I have watched the video of some guys that say throw hips first and they are not. I stopped video on release and there hips are perpendicular to the throw. People think they are throwing hips first because they are standing straight up and throwing. Basically they are throwing anhyzers. it gives the feel that your hips are going first but they are not. Like to see a hip first thrower throw a hyzer. Every video is a anhyzer. Thanks for talking .

    This is awesome, nice work! I ran across this video because I've recently injured my right foot and am thinking that the cause of the injury (sprain of the interosseous membrane, aka high ankle sprain, according to the MRI) was probably caused by my throwing from the tee as my right foot pivoted (right handed backhand). I have several problems with my foot (chronic achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, and 3rd metatarsal pain), so I may be the only person whose foot has reacted so badly to tee shots. It started two days after playing, and just got more and more swollen and was very painful. I ended up in a walking boot and on crutches, and now at 16 days after the swelling started, it has mostly receded, but I am very tender to the touch behind and above the outside ankle. That plus the usual tender and painful achilles tendon make it so I can't really push off with the right foot. Anybody else have a similar story to share?

    Seems like Gurthie, Gibson, McMahon all have the most proper use of mechanics in their form. Effective at stopping their forward momentum with their right foot. They stay on the tee pad and we know they are the biggest distance throwers in that video. Oh and Barela.

    Some seem to stay behind the brace completely while others throw through the brace more. Look at Gibson for example of staying behind the brace. I noticed in the 2023 Distance competition where Tamm threw 700+, that he stayed behind his brace more completely than the other competitors. Is that a big factor in getting the maximum distance possible? If so, what is the key to doing so?

    • @konroh2
      @konroh2 Год назад +1

      Not sure what you mean by brace. Drew does have a more compact style, but that's related to his body type. What I notice is how much they all come through their release, the speed is so much there that the body follows through all the way.

    • @luuhax
      @luuhax Год назад +5

      I've come to the conclusion it's probably just a result of runup speed + step length.
      If your runup is faster, then however you do it you will preserve some forward momentum and drift forward over the brace at some point. The key is utilizing the energy in the brace before that happens, so timing.
      Similarily if your last step is short, then you have less time to spend "behind" your brace, while a longer step will net you a longer distance before you arrive at the brace.
      This is how/why peoples brace leg straightens out all the way or not. Obviously on some touch shots, especially hyzers, you might crouch down more, leading to a bent brace leg aswell.
      The longer stepped variant requires superb mobility, which is why most people will find more success in shortening their steps.

    • @michaelr1397
      @michaelr1397 Год назад +1

      Everyone is releasing the disc off a braced front foot. There hips come threw after disc is released. No pro is throwing hips first. Pause video on release of disc ( right when disc is released) look where hips are. The back leg follow through depends on throw they are throwing if throwing a hyzer back leg will stay back if there throwing a force over you stand up straighter back leg will come through.

      There is so much going on it's easy to miss this but you're right. It's almost like a downward punching motion that they are doing to collapse the shoulder. Definitely gonna try this out next time I throw!

      I'm noticing that his arm is straight and how shoulders are back so much longer than everyone else. AB is starting to let the elbow break before his weight is all the way on his front foot, but Eagle's shoulders don't start turning until his back heel is up. I'm working on backhand timing and trying to figure this all out.

      @@timkvernen4852 Great observation. Yeah I've heard Eagle say (in a recent vid with Drew Gibson, I think) that he thinks about generating power from the ground up. Which we've all heard before, but whenever I really try to weight-shift/slam on my front foot AND THEN throw, the disc goes 150ft. (and it feels so unbelievably wrong). But that's because I've got bad form/mechanics I guess. Thanks for the informative comment!

      @@flippeditude1170 In the past I was just working on straightening my leg to brace but realized that I was doing it when my hip was above my foot. For the leg extension to rotate your hips, your hip needs to be behind the foot (otherwise you're just kind of jumping). I've gotten some more distance that way, but still needs some work!

  • @Bloom0to9
    @Bloom0to9 Год назад +3

    The biggest difference is that the big distance guys put all their momentum into the arm and therefore the disc. Which is why they stop. The less distance throws continue moving forward after throwing cos they haven't managed to put ALL the momentum where it's supposed to go meaning their form is not right
