How the fuck can you Not Like this? The solo by Leo in Africa is such a aural pleasure. Have loved his tone since hearing Cissy Strut 1st time in 1970 in Detroit on radio, don't recall if it was WABX or W4. It was tonally different from what I heard as a kid on AM Detroit radio in 60's. Life long Meters fan.
Dey da' Meters! That's it. No matter what is said, dey da' Meters origin-uh line up. That's it. I've said it, my system is realized, purified, funkified now: Beautiful!
I saw them in 74, when they were strung out, on the road and not selling records - or tickets. About a dozen people in the joint called Tulagi’s in Boulder. Unforgettable.
When the mc called out the names I literally had a shiver down my spine. To hear these names and know what is to come, is for a Funkateer like me HEAVEN! Some 60 years later these legendary and BEST funky cats can still blow everything else to pieces...THIS IS IT!!!
@@dancinfool2006 Great! Turn it up!!! Yeah, "If Ever I Cease To Love", became If ever I cease to live this year, but for us survivors, we are still enjoying a very cold day - at least it's not windy.
Once you hear the Meters, they grab that funky part of your persona and won't let go. That's what happened to me in the 1970's and my life has been funkified ever since.
The Meters are like the original War aka The Lowrider Band, they are timeless OG's. Soldiers who defined an era of black music that cannot ever be replicated.
I like to call this music "Creole Funk" - this music IS New Orleans, up from the ninth ward, four guys that grew up playing together and became one of the greatest bands in the world.

Mr. Porch - With all due respect, what the heck makes you an expert on funk? Stick to the originals and stay home with your stereo headphones and 6 pack of Bud Light. We real fans don't want you in the House when these cats are laying it down - you're just stealing the air anyway you. I would have been thrilled to be at this show, as would any real fan of this music. Please - stay home!
I hear ya, but let's cut them a little "Medicare Slack" They were all hard livin' musicians in their 60's, Art in his 70's and still getting it done. We've all seen them play better, but just to SEE and HEAR this music in 2012 and now, 2021, is a real treat. Any of the recorded live shows from the early 70's will blow this out of the water, but I'm still lovin' this for old times sake. Rock In Peace - Art.
quite untidy, measured by their own standards not good anymore. You can tell the guitar in these modern days is coming to the front - and that' s not what funk is about. Funk is about Drum, Bass, Brass and guitar. I prefer the old suff on the old instruments in old sound quality (where you dont hear each and every mistake) with the young Meters - just my opinion.
They've been playing a lot recently, George Porter Jr and Zigaboo played a concert with the New Mastersounds down in New Orleans and it was the best concert I've ever seen
you can't judge a band doing a one-off show by how they sounded when they played together all the time. i think it sounds great! not the same, but different isn't a bad thing. also, the way a band plays a song live is different from what they do in the studio
I’ve only heard the old stuff before watching this video. It seems the guitar player once had great tone and played tastefully - and now he plays with way too much gain and just shreds too many notes
