I love the Forest. I hail from Littledean Hill and though I've lived in Australia for forty years or more on the edge of Rushworth forest (a gold mining area with a heap of history) I've never forgotten the Dean Forest. There's little doubt my early life in Dean Forest had a great influence on where I settled in Oz. Thanks for your posting!
'Ow b'ist? Thank you for posting this. My grandparents were born in Pillowell at the turn of the last century and my mother was born in Cinderford. Although I was born and raised in Gloucester I was taken to 'the forest' on weekend outings throughout my childhood and later lived 'Severnside' for many years, taking my dogs for walks in the forest several times a week. Thank you for bringing back many happy memories and for information I never knew, as well a reminder of the way I remember my grandparents speaking.
Many thanks to Elsie Olivey for her input but once again noe mention of the importance of the area through both world wars ? It’s a disgrace that this is overlooked all the time

Ow bist Old mate. I've never forgotten the Forest - and my two sons - both well versed in the ways of the Forest have visited the Forest.
