Great video, I replaced my choke today. I did it without removing the plastic from around the fuel tank by cutting the old cable up near the handle bars and taping the old cable and the new cable ends together and pulling the new cable thru as I pulled the old cable out. Electricians call it fishing. Just make sure you tape the new and old together really good and tight. Feed the new cable in with one hand up by the handle bars while pulling the old cable out by the carb....hope this makes sense. It worked really well. Thanks for the video.

Getn ready to do the same. My advice is buy a cover for your quad and won’t have to worry about replacing the cable. Left mine out in snowy cold temps and that’s when the trouble started. Moisture plays havoc on the cable and ignition.

Replaced the cable and was able to “fish” the old cable thru as was suggested. Good advice!

Thank you very much ehhh 🇨🇦 :-) Best $35.00 if ever spent! Never worked from new 20 years ago, always used carb primer to start it. That was rough and terrible in cold weather. Starts immediately and smooth like a Honda should now. I appreciate your time spent to educate us all. Well done :-)

Dale, I see in your video between minute 7:34 and 8:00 there appeared to be a small O-ring between the choke float and the spring. What is that for? Also does the new choke cable come with that? I did not see that addressed on re-install. Look forward to your comments on that.

Trying to assemble the parts at the carb end of the cable end (rubber elbow boot, clip, spring and metal elbow and nut) but uncertain about positioning of the metal elbow. Which end (little or big end) is inserted first first into the rubber boot?

    • @DaleHobbs39

I would try the little end. I didn't take the elbow apart. It has been 7 years since I did this job and haven't done one since. Sorry I couldn't give you a definite answer.

Your Rancher is like my Foreman. Glad your going slow as to be able to watch. This Foreman had been stolen by some kids and ruined the ATV. All the plastics are in a box and so far what I had done is replace the carb, new choke cable as you had just done. New solenoid and battery. The digital meter was also ruined by heat and the protective cover was shot as well. I purchased a new one and it seems to work just fine. I'm waiting on a fuel sender as we speak then will try to fill the tank with some 93 octane. What fuel do you use??

    • @DaleHobbs39
      @DaleHobbs39 3 года назад +1

I use non ethanol fuel I think it is 59 octane. I'm at around 6400 feet above sea level so I can use the lower octane.

If the cable isn't hard to move in and out and it moving the valve, then just replace the valve.

I have a 2013 honda ranche rat( rancher at ) 420. no choke.
    Only 2 things I dont like and I don't like a lot!
#1 reverse. Too much bullsh it to shuft it into reverse.
#2 steering. It dose not turn sharp enough and it extrenely stiff *needs power steering.*
    I have a 2016 honda trx 500
Deluxe M7 with powersteering.! And front diff lock ! Fantastic. But. Manual shift sucks and that same dam complicated reverse procedure.
Wow what a difference that power steering makes.
Manual shift is same as motorcycle except no clutch.
Both have all wheel independent suspension.
