I live in a terraced house in Ireland. My neighbours are pretty cool, but my concern is noise and smell as I was told. Like, I really want to invest is this not just for me, but for my children to understand life in general. I already have an allotment for growing fruit and veg which is amazing but I feel like having a little coop will do me and my family the world of good. Chickens, like most birds, feel more comfortable in a flock. Four chickens is the minimum, because a flock gives them a sense of security. Of course, whoever exploits animals does not care about their feelings. For an animal lover, this is useful information.
My neighbor has over 50 chickens right outside his house door. We live in town, not even on 1/4 of an acre, so rodents have been a huge issue. I have to routinely mass exterminate rodents inside my home... Just recently I killed 13 mice in 2 days. The third day, a 12 foot rat snake found itself caught in a glue board I had set up, exposing how big the entryway actually is. I intented to rescue said snake because it's my only other ally in micing (my cat does a catch n release method) but the glue board tore it's flesh to the bone off on it's jaw... So, rodents are a huge huge problem for us with chickens in very close proximity.
