i feel like people always neglect this psychological side of fashion that i find fascinating, often people will say to 'not judge a book by its cover' but the cover tells a lot about the contents
I agree. Like, the cover isn't everything but it does tell you _something_ It's part of the book and what happens in it. Just like how clothes tell you the first glance of a person but you get to understand why they dress that way when you get to know the actual person.
Yeah, well, from a psychological perspective, sure. From a Sociological perspective: ones presentation has a lot to do with an interplay of expectation, societal expectations, and individual agency. However, the individual might choose to display different things depending on whether or not they want to illicit a response or perspective. So, depends on your understanding of the variables surrounding their behavior, and your lexicon of culturally associated decoration.
I also noticed that a few of Cher's dresses have empire waists, which was the style in Jane Austen's time, so it could be a modernized version of clothes from Emma
Good catch! They were popular at the time, too, especially for special events like prom. I think it was half the influence of grunge babydoll dresses and the influence from Romeo + Juliet, plus Tocca was trendy, too. I only wore empire waist dresses in middle school
I was a teenager in the 90s and lived through this era. When we went to see it at the movie theaters, I will be honest about what time era it captured. It captured high-end fashion from the early part of 1995. Some themes are more the early to mid-90s with the Grunge, but I would say in general most teens I went to high school with wore jeans and t-shirts. I was always more into dresses and tended to wear floral ones. I never wore the mini skirts though, usually longer ones.
This is so interesting! Costume Designer Mona May did an amazing job on an archetypal take of the big trends of the decade. I always wondered how those who lived through this time truly dressed in their day to day lives. Thank you so much for sharing 🖤
It came out on my 13th birthday, and it was my birthday present to see it in the theater. In the 8th grade I had a black kilt skirt, black and white tartan vest and white collared shirt to go with it with knee highs and Mary Janes. But that was an outfit for special occasions like picture day. We mostly wore jeans, t shirts, and so much plaid flannel we could have clothed all the lumberjacks in Canada. Doc Martens, Vans, Converse. Overalls and baby tees. I wore all of it throughout high school. I still wear a lot of it today at 38.
I was in junior high when this movie came out, and the girls including myself wore the knee high stockings, baby tees, short skirts, and etc. Awesome times back then!❤️ I love this movie
@@vanessabell7867 Yes, my sister was the same age and wore those things. I was a bit more just about dresses that were floral and knee-length or longer. I also wore leggings.
Fun little "clue" that I noticed, was that when Cher was at the mall and talking with Christen, she wore a green dress with a waistline that ended very high. I think this may have been a nod to Jane Austen's Emma, and the whole regency period fashion style, because, it was written/ published and set in the regency era, which had the same waistline as the green dress.
I just want to decade this comment to appreciate the effort in NOT ONLY analyzing, but editing these videos. Absolutely stunning. Your voice is extremely soothing and I can listen to you for hours. I love your content and I hope you continue to publish videos with your insightful commentary and clean aesthetic.
Love it!!! my friends and I were obsessed with this movie as a teen, must've watched it a gazillion times. Looking back I like how it's not raunchy like other things created for teens are and that Cher is popular but not a mean girl. RIP Brittany Murphy. I feel like she later portrayed a Cher-like character in Uptown Girls. 💖
im early omg hi queen! are you going to do an analysis about the rest members of blackpink and the houses they´re representing??? also can you do style analysis of carla santini from cofessions of a teenage drama queen? love all your videos
I’m so excited I love watching your videos!! And for once can y’all shut up and stop attacking her over her voice? She isn’t trying hard or faking it, it’s her natural voice, so maybe stop with the nasty comments and just enjoy the video for once.
Awesome!! you truly deserve to grow into a much bigger channel, i cant believe you don't have like a million followers... you'll get there tho, just subscribed :)
I was wondering are you going to be doing a style analysis on Aria From Pretty Little Liars? I would love 😍 also love your videos and appreciate your hard work!
I would love your opinion on these shows, if you desire to do, of course: -Ugly betty, either the mexican 2019 novela or the american tv show -Rebelde, 2000s mexican telenovela that had a real band. This novela was so famous in Latin America that shaped my childhood growing up. -My Mad Fat Diary, UK tv show
90s kid. I loved Clueless. Wanted to be Liv Tyler as Corey in Empire Records. My dark side was Courtney Love ( people say Minaj has a corruptive influence ) Love how you’ve articulated and validated the power of fashion The tag trade has a diminished value to those who identify with higher thinking The psychology of fashion is something, which as an artist, I have never been able to articulate, but, have always been aware of and experienced. I love clothing as wearable art. I don’t appreciate high end clothing for its tribal identity as a status or luxury item More I appreciate high end clothing for their beauty The perfect weight, the fairy stitching, the attention to detail I appreciate work which is the work of artisans I’d like to close with an illuminating insight upon privilege “ If you can wake up, choose what you want to wear and what you want to eat - you are more privileged than you realise “ I reflect upon this A beautiful mother of my Vietnamese ex partner once told me that growing up she owned only two sets of clothing ( a woman now gorgeously draped in gold 💛 but who supports her family at home ) Her day wear and her special clothes. My grandmother described similar stories growing up in the war. To experience fashion as a form of expression of self identity is a privilege I am grateful every day 💛
I found it extremely annoying at first to the point that I couldn't finish her videos even tho they were good... but with time, I got used to it and now I find it pretty relaxing or maybe just because it's 3am rn
Well I don't know I grew up in a rural community we had a convenience store a grocery store a hardware store a bank a beer store and little else no mall or anything so I thought this movie was just silly as a teenager. I did like her in the Aerosmith videos though.
As I say shopping was not a huge pastime of mine you go to the city a few times a year for some clothes and then you just live your life in them. I like things to coordinate and fit properly maybe that says something about my identity but people who like fashion as an art form should not be stereo typed as stupid or shallow necessarily either. Sure I had a plaid skirt at 16 but lots of jeans and plaid shirts and crop tops and such too the film just reflects the fashion of that era but grunge was in too. I spent lots of time in my room doing school work or writing poetry making mix tapes and collages on the phone with friends but not out shopping.
I normally don't notice this stuff but my goodness, the vocal fry sounds affected in this video... it's very jarring and unfortunately renders this video unwatchable (to me, not an American). I'm sorry, I really don't mean it in a bad way, but just thought I'd comment in case you were unaware.... if you are aware, just ignore me, and my apologies.
A source stated this as a quote for the costume designer, I’ve come to realize that the dates do not match up for this. Unfortunately I cannot change the video as it’s already uploaded.
This video is so upsetting to me bc while I feel like the analysis could have been insightful and interesting, the affected vocal frye of the narrator is SO grating that I only got 2 minutes into the video! Why does she speak like that???
Girl, please stop privatising your video style analysis, I haven't gotten to watching them all, please give me a link or something I loveeeed so bad the ones I watched 😫😫 you can't leave me hanging

I feel like when people say dont jugde a book by its cover they mean dont assume a person fits a stereotype based on what you know about them.
Yeah, well, from a psychological perspective, sure. From a Sociological perspective: ones presentation has a lot to do with an interplay of expectation, societal expectations, and individual agency. 1000th like 😅
To this day I'm still in awe with the clothes in Clueless
Same. I think the red plaid coat with the matching skirt is my favorite.
Me too

I still wish I had hair like Alicia Silverstone
YESS 90s fluffy hair is the best

That’s so cool, today I still wear floral, leggings, and some 90s stuff. 😁

Love how you’ve articulated and validated the power of fashion
The tag trade has a diminished value to those who identify with higher thinking
The psychology of fashion is something, which as an artist, I have never been able to articulate, but, have always been aware of and experienced.
I love clothing as wearable art.
I don’t appreciate high end clothing for its tribal identity as a status or luxury item
More I appreciate high end clothing for their beauty
The perfect weight, the fairy stitching, the attention to detail
I appreciate work which is the work of artisans
I’d like to close with an illuminating insight upon privilege
“ If you can wake up, choose what you want to wear and what you want to eat - you are more privileged than you realise “
I reflect upon this
A beautiful mother of my Vietnamese ex partner once told me that growing up she owned only two sets of clothing ( a woman now gorgeously draped in gold 💛 but who supports her family at home )

Because thats her voice?
Girl, please stop privatising your video style analysis, I haven't gotten to watching them all, please give me a link or something I loveeeed so bad the ones I watched 😫😫 you can't leave me hanging
Now today's youths are far less likely to afford the clothes clueless wore.
How old are you? I imagine you weren't around in the 90s if you say 90s fashion is timeless. Because it's not. It became very dated in the 00s.
I literally couldn’t watch this because of your voice
💗
The kardashians style
oh yess ugh
why does she talk so slow
