  • The film “History of Armenian medicine” offers a unique journey through the evolution of Armenian medicine-from its ancient origins to the Middle Ages, from the remarkable developments in Soviet-era medical schools to the discovery of Armenian contributions to medicine in the region. A project addressing the pioneers of Armenian medicine, their brilliant achievements, and pivotal moments in the advancement of medical history has never been created before within the context of modern Armenian history.
The concept for the film was developed by documentary and feature film director Artak Avetyan. The production was fully funded by Wigmore Group CJSC as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, with the goal of preserving and passing down the rich legacy of Armenian medicine to future generations.
Filming took place in Armenia, Georgia (Tbilisi), and Turkey (Istanbul), where numerous archaeological findings were analyzed, and unique medieval works from the Matenadaran archives were featured. The film also highlights the history of Armenian medical schools, as well as archival footage from the Soviet era, showcasing renowned Armenian doctors.
