No it is not! Vietcong means Vietnamese communist. Their name was "People's Liberation Armed Forces" HOWEVER The army of North Vietnam and of the united Vietnam is called: PAVN - People's Army of Viet Nam!
Too bad...General Sak Suksakhan complained that the UN did not help out the Khmer Republic like they did the Republic of Korea in 1950. Well, the United Nations WAS the United States at that time. Too bad for the KR that the USA had its fill with combat in South East Asia. There was no way the USA was going to get the KR out of this dillema. Kissinger said "were not looking for victory here, just keep the thing (the Khmer Republic) alive." I think he meant until Nixon was out of office(!)

At the time I thought it was just stupidity (Vietnam against Khmer R so US had to not be against) but now I realize that those are just the kind of people that Kissinger loves most.

First, Vietcong is a military faction in South vietnam as the Genova occured, their goal is to overthrow the dummy Republic of Vietnam gorvement and disrupt the american and AVRN troops as much s possible. Second, this faction ceased activate status after unite of Vietnam. After that, Vietnam has its own army called Vietnam's People Army.
@nmqtabtp You're very insightful. The Vietnamese government is an oligarchy, which sadly, placed "country" and "people" too far from their hearts. Even when Japan had the same government, "people" and "country" remained strong. That said, the Chinese version is 10x worse. I will say that the average Vietnamese has more "freedom" (relatively speaking of course) then your typical Chinese up North. They can have as many kids, eat whatever they can hunt/afford, and sing karaoke whenever.
@tiara5512 Actually, Khmers are much more related to Vietnamese but Laos is closer to Thailand, and all of these peoples are related to the Hmong people who are likely indigenous settlers of much of mainland SE Asia. War is just stupid.
