    God, John is so young-looking here, if someone told me this guy was actually one of the Beatles in the 70s, I'd probably say "sure".

    • @thunderfieldcastle
      @thunderfieldcastle 4 года назад +17

      Well, four spaces in the Beatles had opened up by the 70s, so it’s entirely plausible. People will disagree and point out that he’d have been about two years old in ‘79, but I say there’s definitely scope for some pretty awesome fan-fiction there.

    • @Picnicl
      @Picnicl 4 года назад +1

      The Beatles, who'd broken up by then, were in or heading in to their 30s in the 1970s and, with their biblical type beards and moustaches for a time, only Paul still looked fairly young at that point. This moptop look ended about 1963 or 1964.

      The Beatles broke up in 1970, but I don't think they really did much of anything else as a band that year. They performed their last concert and recorded their final album in 1969.

      I dont think anyone on MTW does much in the way of actual ad-libs from what i've heard from comedians describing the process. They're all well prepped and supplied with material and such. They're not stooges or actors, but its more collaborative. MTW has writers after all, and they dont just do the questions. Not disparaging the guests though, They just have worked out their gags before the show. It makes for a better show. Professional comedians and all that

      @@wmperry2790 that's a nice theory. Wrong, but nice. The notable different style of the comedians definitely shows that they are not being written for by the mtw writers though, and in some cases comedians reuse portions from their past live shows, or vice versa (using this as a show that will be edited so they can try out new material). You can sometimes tell when someone's stretching a prompt a little to get to some material they have in mind, rather than just amusingly ranting or going for an easy punchline

    A while ago on the RT Podcast, Gavin mentioned that in Britain, John Oliver's been mostly forgotten. Fast-forward to him having rewatched some early 2000's British television to reveal that John was one of the most common faces there. Is it because the US has him now or is it because he wasn't exactly the star of the show yet?
