I tried holding down the Oculus button for a few seconds to reset my view orientation, but I still get the same result. Am I don't something wrong, or is it just _like_ that? I mean, it's all of half a second for me to turn and face the right way. I'm curious for the thinky reasons more than the do-y reasons.

Great question, the simple button script should work. The other alternative is to use the key frame motion… This is more difficult and unfortunately would not stop. So definitely recommend the simple elevator for a single gondola… I’d have to give it some more thought though, definitely keep us posted on how it goes and what you end up doing :-)

There is unlimited space to build, there is a render distance which is variable based on your scale…I want to say in preview mode at 1x, it’s like 1km … hope this helps :)

This is a really interesting question, unfortunately there is no compress to save space option, it all comes down to deleting or disabling certain attributes. Here are some suggestions that might help you: Watch out for soft or rounded edges, these will eat into your geometric complexity. If you have any objects that are just reference objects, but are not actually animated, go into the properties panel and change them from a Animated to none, that’s way they don’t eat up 1/8 of a percent. If you are using text, look at using breaks “”, to separate lines, and other text codes to use less text gizmos, each one saved is 1/8 of a percent. If you are using text as art you might also be able to replace some pieces of text with individual objects (this saves animation capacity not object). If you have grabbable physics objects, consider making them grabbable without physics. This saves about 1/8th as well. If you have lots of a single object that isn’t really being used, like a bunch of apples but you only really need one or two, delete the excess. Each grabbable physics object deleted is 1/4 of a percent. If you have any VFX, unless it is absolutely vital, delete it. Each VFX gizmo is one percent. When we make water splash, we use one visual effects and move it around to all the different pools etc. That’s the bulk of it, definitely a good video idea, I’ll start brainstorming and come back to it sometime :-)
Absolutely! :) You could modify the return script to listen to a trigger enter event (ie. a button press). I believe the script changes would need only be: Add Object variables "BowlingReset" Then under "When World Is Started" add: Connect (BowlingReset) 'TriggerEnter' to 'GrabEnd' So one variable and one connection, this video is a little old but the knowledge is all accurate :) ruclips.net/video/2BbspTbx6bs/видео.html

You can either hide half of a half pipe inside of something, or design your own using the other primitives… A circle is really just a bunch of squares… If that makes sense 😅 I’m waiting for the day when we can cut shapes in half… Will get there, probably a lot later this year though
Unfortunately we don’t have any mirrors yet, there’s some hacky ways to use raycast and make blocky mirrors. Currently not possible, but hopefully we will see importing available soon. Merc does all of his logo and art designs by hand, usually with reference images…you can also perspective-flatten 3D art, I believe we demo this in the first half of Building 102 :)

This is a great tutorial request, I've been avoiding this because there is no officially supported method and most are using headphones over their mics, or using AB Cable to reroute their audio via Link Cable. It's a messy task. Definitely consider using headphones over the mic as I believe that is the easiest method that retains good quality.
@@Fee5280 I believe that we have tried that too. Feel free to give it a try, there are so many various adapters, would love to know if there is a way. But my understanding is that the Q2 does not support audio input and only uses the onboard stereo mics.

I was also wondering if there is a way to compress a build, for example I built a donut stand with sprinkle donuts so it’s a lot of little pieces but now it’s super laggy and basically crashes horizon worlds when ever I try and move it or interact with it at all. So I was thinking if there is a way to make it one object like a group but permanent so it can’t be ungrouped so it doesn’t have to save all those little components. Thanks again!

Obviously you're a busy person but do you check out other peoples worlds? I'd definitely be willing to throw up some RUclips credits your way. Or are there any tips I'm missing for not blowing my geometric complexity sky high? All three of my Zelda inspired worlds were quite geometrically complex... I'm building the Egypt Multiplayer Level from Goldeneye and my pillars look pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. The only problem is that one takes about 3% of my geometric complexity and there is about 33 pillars in the level. I pretty much max out by just having my pillars down :(
Great question, and you are not alone, I definitely experienced this problem early on too. The issue you’re encountering is likely related to soft cubes and rounded shapes. You want to use objects with hard edges, like a regular cube as often as possible. Because you’re talking about 1000 additional vertices on one soft cube versus 12 vertices on a regular cube. And that’s how geometric complexity is calculated, so try to stick to shapes with hard edges as often as possible or only use soft edges shapes when necessary. Another thing to consider, is that you can use a single shape every so often to infer a pattern. This is often done with brick walls since we can’t actually make brick walls yet, by having four or five bricks popping out of the wall so that it feels more like it actually is a brick wall. You can lead tours on Wednesdays at our event that’s at 5:30/8:30 PM PT/ET. If you arrive a bit early, perhaps I can join you and check it out! :-) That and we have some other volunteers who would also be willing to help and answer questions and take a look at your work. :-)
Also worth noting that players eat up geometric complexity extremely fast. I recommend setting your world somewhere between 8 to 12 players. This should leave you with a little over 50% geometric complexity. 😁
@@Vidyuu You're absolutely a gem. Thanks so much. I definitely noticed that using a single block for an entire floor created less complexity. I was trying to create tile patterns using rounded cubes with a single black cube stretched out to fill the creases. I did not realize a rounded cube had almost hundred times the vertices! Dang. My pillars use a hex, right triangles on each edge, isometric? triangles on the corners for the base, 3 rounded cylinders with black halos for pillar definition, and I copied the hex base, stretched it up for the top of the pillars. Removing rounded cylinders and using one object didn't do much, so I have to imagine it around the base and those 3 halos that are wreaking havoc! Sorry, can you clarify what you mean by not being able to build a brick wall? Just like, changing the colour of a few bricks? I was building the courtyard from Ocarina of Time. The bricks in the actual game are very small. I made a small section, and then rotated the sides of a few blocks because I noticed the texture looked different depending on which axis of the brick was viewed? I had to scale it up immensely compared to what the bricks looked like in the game. But I also used rounded cubes to add to that dimension which is probably what ate up my courtyard wall. (Green @ symbols in green, stretched out made decent looking bushes) I was really hoping that if I 'grouped' an object, the game might be able to recognize it not as hundred complex blocks, but as one unit to render type thing. What am I missing to create a 'brick wall' with non-rounded cubes, but still have that definition between each "brick"? Or is that where you'd just slightly change the colour hue? So 'players' add to both geometric complexity and the effects section above geometric? Are you talking about the "world hopping" event? It was quite busy and that's how I committed to your RUclips lol. I'd seen you first on RUclips under recommended. Then World Hopping was too busy to get help (which is fine, I was more glad interest in learning and not complaining was high!) and then I saw a big sign in the sky with your RUclips on it. Seemed like a sign alright! Stay awesome!
Yeah sorry the event was so busy, since Horizon opened we’ve had 10x the people with the same amount of volunteers… So it’s a bit of a flurry to keep it somewhat organized. 😅😅 You only get 3000 objects in the world, grouping unfortunately adds an additional object. Hopefully one day will see consolidating meshes. But that’s not gonna happen anytime soon unfortunately. In other words, if you try to make any sort of brick structure you will use up almost all of your object capacity very quickly. My first build was a brick house, and I quickly learned that I could only build one and a half walls lol 🤣😅 So instead of having all the bricks in the ground, delete most of them leaving only a few here and there, which gives a similar aesthetic, without actually using all the objects necessary. It sounds awesome! But I definitely think this is a fine details problem unfortunately, perhaps we will see this improved in 2022, but it’s going to require some underlying architecture changes in the app. Fingers crossed :-)

How do you import pics, like jpg’s or URL’s into your world?
Currently not possible, but hopefully we will see importing available soon. Merc does all of his logo and art designs by hand, usually with reference images…you can also perspective-flatten 3D art, I believe we demo this in the first half of Building 102 :)

This is a great tutorial request, I've been avoiding this because there is no officially supported method and most are using headphones over their mics, or using AB Cable to reroute their audio via Link Cable. It's a messy task. Definitely consider using headphones over the mic as I believe that is the easiest method that retains good quality.
@@Vidyuu could you use an external mic with a 8mm jack that will plug in to the meta quest.
@@Fee5280 Unfortunately the Q2 does not support Microphone in, we've tried a few times sadly 😅

@@Fee5280 I believe that we have tried that too. Feel free to give it a try, there are so many various adapters, would love to know if there is a way. But my understanding is that the Q2 does not support audio input and only uses the onboard stereo mics.

I was also wondering if there is a way to compress a build, for example I built a donut stand with sprinkle donuts so it’s a lot of little pieces but now it’s super laggy and basically crashes horizon worlds when ever I try and move it or interact with it at all. So I was thinking if there is a way to make it one object like a group but permanent so it can’t be ungrouped so it doesn’t have to save all those little components. Thanks again!

Obviously you're a busy person but do you check out other peoples worlds? I'd definitely be willing to throw up some RUclips credits your way. Or are there any tips I'm missing for not blowing my geometric complexity sky high? All three of my Zelda inspired worlds were quite geometrically complex... I'm building the Egypt Multiplayer Level from Goldeneye and my pillars look pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. The only problem is that one takes about 3% of my geometric complexity and there is about 33 pillars in the level. I pretty much max out by just having my pillars down :(
Great question, and you are not alone, I definitely experienced this problem early on too. The issue you’re encountering is likely related to soft cubes and rounded shapes. You want to use objects with hard edges, like a regular cube as often as possible. Because you’re talking about 1000 additional vertices on one soft cube versus 12 vertices on a regular cube. And that’s how geometric complexity is calculated, so try to stick to shapes with hard edges as often as possible or only use soft edges shapes when necessary.
Another thing to consider, is that you can use a single shape every so often to infer a pattern. This is often done with brick walls since we can’t actually make brick walls yet, by having four or five bricks popping out of the wall so that it feels more like it actually is a brick wall.
You can lead tours on Wednesdays at our event that’s at 5:30/8:30 PM PT/ET. If you arrive a bit early, perhaps I can join you and check it out! :-)
That and we have some other volunteers who would also be willing to help and answer questions and take a look at your work. :-)
Also worth noting that players eat up geometric complexity extremely fast. I recommend setting your world somewhere between 8 to 12 players. This should leave you with a little over 50% geometric complexity. 😁

I definitely noticed that using a single block for an entire floor created less complexity. I was trying to create tile patterns using rounded cubes with a single black cube stretched out to fill the creases. I did not realize a rounded cube had almost hundred times the vertices! Dang. My pillars use a hex, right triangles on each edge, isometric? triangles on the corners for the base, 3 rounded cylinders with black halos for pillar definition, and I copied the hex base, stretched it up for the top of the pillars. Removing rounded cylinders and using one object didn't do much, so I have to imagine it around the base and those 3 halos that are wreaking havoc!
Sorry, can you clarify what you mean by not being able to build a brick wall? Just like, changing the colour of a few bricks? I was building the courtyard from Ocarina of Time. The bricks in the actual game are very small. I made a small section, and then rotated the sides of a few blocks because I noticed the texture looked different depending on which axis of the brick was viewed? I had to scale it up immensely compared to what the bricks looked like in the game. But I also used rounded cubes to add to that dimension which is probably what ate up my courtyard wall. (Green @ symbols in green, stretched out made decent looking bushes) I was really hoping that if I 'grouped' an object, the game might be able to recognize it not as hundred complex blocks, but as one unit to render type thing. What am I missing to create a 'brick wall' with non-rounded cubes, but still have that definition between each "brick"? Or is that where you'd just slightly change the colour hue?

Are you talking about the "world hopping" event? It was quite busy and that's how I committed to your RUclips lol. I'd seen you first on RUclips under recommended. Then World Hopping was too busy to get help (which is fine, I was more glad interest in learning and not complaining was high!) and then I saw a big sign in the sky with your RUclips on it. Yeah sorry the event was so busy, since Horizon opened we’ve had 10x the people with the same amount of volunteers… So it’s a bit of a flurry to keep it somewhat organized. 😅😅
You only get 3000 objects in the world, grouping unfortunately adds an additional object. Hopefully one day will see consolidating meshes. But that’s not gonna happen anytime soon unfortunately.
In other words, if you try to make any sort of brick structure you will use up almost all of your object capacity very quickly. My first build was a brick house, and I quickly learned that I could only build one and a half walls lol 🤣😅
So instead of having all the bricks in the ground, delete most of them leaving only a few here and there, which gives a similar aesthetic, without actually using all the objects necessary.
It sounds awesome! But I definitely think this is a fine details problem unfortunately, perhaps we will see this improved in 2022, but it’s going to require some underlying architecture changes in the app. Fingers crossed :-)
