"Good morning! How's it feel to be strapped to a walking nuke reactor at 6 am? Bet you wish you'd studied harder in school... hahaha..." That line stuck with me all these years.
Why be a battlemech mercenary? Because if you studied harder you'd be a boring FTL navigator on a Jumpship or even a battlemech engineer working at a factory, only to get nuked during the Succession Wars.
SAME. Unther is my spirit animal for when I'm dealing with newbs. Just about everything this guy says is gold. The clanner trainer from MW2 is also great inspiration.
I remember launching this game from DOS mode. Had to exit out of Windows 95 entirely to do it. Made it run smoother and loaded a lot faster. This game taught me how to use DOS 😂
I'm certain! There's a particular mission where the salvage rights are excellent (I think) and you need to do it on that mission... take out his cockpit and the rest of the mech is yours! :) Any mission where there are good or excellent salvage rights, you will be able to salvage almost any mech you kill by only destroying the cockpit.
I forget exactly how to do this, but if you shoot out his cockpit (easy to do because he's in a catapult) after you complete all the objectives, you can salvage the catapult. The salvage rights are "excellent" for the last mission if I remember correctly so it's really likely you get to keep it! The early game is much easier with the 65 ton catapult ;)
Are yo sure? Im afraid its not truth. I was trying to do it for hours once, I m not sure thou how it would work with cocpit bust but... I destroyed him in duel many times and there was no option to get that catapult. MW 2 didnt worked that way.
Why does my video of essentially the same thing have only 1000 views while yours is at almost 20,000. I guess because yours was first maybe. Anyway, RUclips is weird in many ways and such.

A line of his that I still use: "Be sure to scream a lot if you die, that way I know I'm on my own."

“..that beer can you call a mech..” has always stuck with me lol
He got a shout-out in one of BattleTech's loading screens.
If you're careful, you can take out the cockpit and start the game with a catapult instead of a commando...

I am almost 90% sure that the VA for Sergeant Unther is the same VA for the Mobile Field Base Commander in Mechwarrior 3
I love the mfb commander's voice.
He always reminded me of Han Solo but more pissed. XD
I do remember reading about him in the news later, that sounds about right considering his methods hahah!

Wasn't there a news story item about him later where he got his trainee killed and was kicked out.
!! I don't remember those textures on my Windows 95 PC!
Yeah, different animations for laser hits too
Anyone else kill him in the first mission? Those catapult cockpits were always easy to hit.
Are you running a different texture for the ground? Looks waaay better than I remember!
Who was the voice actor for Unther?
man, you got this game to run so good! How did you do that?
Is Unther the same voice actor as Arcturus Mensk from Starcraft or am I hearing things?
Phoenix7786 they sound totally different to me so I would guess not
I mean what does he say as he dies
I don't think he says anything if you attack him or if he dies, he just attacks back
Guys what happens if you kill him

Thumbs up if you shot at his mech and survived.
