Contrition is so important in a sentencing hearing. This defendant is ratcheting up in her indignance and claims that she was justified. The best thing for her to have done would have been to say, "Judge, I can only speak for myself, and I am very sorry for my part in this incident and how it escalated. I promise that it won't happen again, because I am ashamed and mortified at what I did." Don't plead guilty and then make your sentencing hearing about how you're not really guilty.
As far as Karen status, it does sound like it was a case of dueling Karens.

Merging behind the other car is a safe option that normal drivers will take. She was acting as if she had no choice but to force her way in. It's frustrating and childish, sure, but you can simply stop attempting to overtake if you cannot do so safely. What stupid justification.

Kathi, you have no idea what you’re talking about. The St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office has currently 4 attorneys and one training; that includes the elected county prosecutor himself. This being Thanksgiving week, I’d wager at least one of those had the day off. If you don’t think Mr. Marvin, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Robert (sp?), and Ms. Davis don’t work hard and do their best to serve justice, then you are even more ignorant than your original comment makes you look.
It’s really quite ridiculous how often I see these same “prosecutors are too soft on defendants with the plea deals!” comments across videos and channels. These comments coming from people who obviously never worked in criminal justice, law, and also probably can’t form two cogent thoughts. Otherwise they’d realize how plea bargaining works, and how if it didn’t work cities, counties, states, and the federal government would go bankrupt trying every single case that would take years to resolve because all the courts would be a hundredfold more backed up than they are already.
It still boggles my mind how people who watch courts so often refuse to learn from what they see. Rotten brains, the lot of you.

I agree with him sometimes but a lot of times he’s just too weak. He keeps letting so many just get by with a lecture…and I imagine a lot of the plaintiffs figure why go to court…nothing will be done. This girl shouldn’t have been given a choice.
