You remind me of of my Dad, Hank. He helped his neighbors sort out small engine repairs right up into his 80's. You are very proficient and a good instructor. My Dad would have loved your videos.

I got my first bad aftermarket briggs style carb recently. The Toro mower would surge, even after a couple carb cleans and no air leaks detected, coil checked out OK. Bought aftermarket carb and surging was fixed and engine started up nicely, but it would not do a hot restart. Had to shoot carb clean in it to restart hot. I replaced the aftermarket carb with a briggs carb from a parts mower I had and voila, hot restart problem solved. Mower starts and runs great now. I think the casting of the aftermarket carb was faulty. It was interesting.
Between these 4 options, what would you say is heart disease in a lawn mower?
1. Worn piston rings
2. Bad fuel lines
3. Plugged spark arrestor
4. Clogged carburetor
Rings. It’s a permanent issue unless rebuilt but they can wear over time and the engine will still run. All that other stuff is easily fixable.

Hi hank, i have a toro 6.75 kohler that will only start for a second if i dump some gas down the spark plug hole, will not start if i try starting fluid. great spark, cleaned carb, fresh gas, etc. any idea what it could be?
Those have an automatic choke on them, that could be faulty and need to be replaced. Check that your choke is working. But if it’s not working correctly your most will never start. Compression feel healthy when you pull it?
@@hanksgarage_ Yeah compression seems fine but it’s got that compression release arm for the “easy pull” so hard to tell but my other 675 feels the same and runs great
I’d look into the choke mechanism.
