I'm glad I watched this recap. Now I know that I shouldn't spend money to rent or buy it later (or to go see it in the theatre). I read the book on which this movie is based and the way it is depicted here is a ridiculous disservice to the work that was done by both the operatives and the author of the book. I know that movie scripts, in many instances, take artistic license with the source material and if I hadn't read the book, it would probably be fine not knowing any better. But the story has been bastardized by the screenwriters and it is a real shame that history has been distorted so egregiously.

The ship scene is roughly based on a ship named the "Sea Adler" and its heroic Captain that performed tricky deceit to control his ship under capture from enemy Nazi forces. Commissioned from New York the trade vessel was a sail ship with an iron hull. The Nazi's refitted the ship with guns for war time use as a military vessel. The Captain was kept onboard as a navigation specialist but again the ship was captured by British forces. Thinking quickly the Captain changed the flag of the ship and order the Nazi's to lock themselves in the brig. British soldiers boarded the vessel for inspection and the Captain convinced the British that they had found the Nazi off shore. Find more about this ship...
