In what kind of situation would you use this? Compared to using a normal repel?

not that I have any experience with using these, but doesn't the guide bar look really worn already? it looks like a pretty deep dent. and when looking at it from the side it doesn't look too thick of a diameter, I'd imagine it would wear soon...
nice video explaining the whole thing nevertheless, thanks.

That dent is deliberate it’s there to guide the rope over that point so it has a lower chance of sliding to the side and wearing on the frame of the rack

that thing looks so complicated compared to petzl stop and simple desender...

Check out the MPD by CMC Rescue. It's insanely simple.

Where the brake rack rally shines is in caving when you're dealing with muddy ropes, it won't clog up with mud like a petzl mechanical descender

i am skeptical of this metal thingies. there should be at least some things that this can do that can not be achieved with a knot

Well, it doesn't kink the rope like a munter, and you don't have to worry about melting through it like a prussik.

@@Ammoniummetavanadate and they're great for dirty muddy environments (aka caving) which would just clog a grigri style belay device
