Thank you so much! Never modded in my life and you made it manageable. For anyone new to modding like me make sure you don't accidentally "install/play" the mod manager before step 9.
Thanks for the SUPER THANKS!! Also great tip. I see many people say they can't launch the mod manager, might be because they tried to launch it too early!
I have spent countless hours and weeks of my life trying to figure out how to get this to work, and I finally gave up. You uploaded this video literally the next day. This method worked *perfectly* and my faith is restored! This game is the reason I got a deck, and I couldn’t even open it on deck because of all my mods. Now it runs like a dream! I truly cannot thank you enough!!
Hey! I’m thinking of buying a steamdeck, but I’m so worried my mods won’t load. For this method, did you follow all of the steps and have the mods you had previously used downloaded like he did in the video? Did you have to create a new character or did you just run a previously modded character? Thanks! :) @audramueller4107
Got it going! Had an issue with the mod manager flickering uncontrollably. After tons of trial and error, I was able to stop the flickering just by minimizing and then restoring its window. Thanks for the great guide!
It would have taken me forever if at all to figure this out reading a guide. Thank you! I just got my Steamdeck yesterday after playing the PS5 version since release and I’ve been so jealous of people’s modded Tavs so I’m excited for a modded play through. Even the non cosmetic mods look fun. Thanks again!
Tip for anyone who is having trouble with the Mod Manager being stuck on "Loading Profiles" after first launch. What fixed it for me was going into the Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles folder and deleting the file modsettings.lsx then trying to start the application again. Worked fine.
This worked for me, after days of tearing my hair out over it I found this video! Thank you SO MUCH! For those having trouble installing 4.7.2, try clicking the WINE option on the left panel and installing the wine wine-ge-8-26 version as it didn't come up for me when I was first installing the mod manager onto lutris (as the OP recommended in the comments). Only had system default appear at first.
thank you thank you thank you!! This was my exact issue and I didn't know what to do. I am SO out of my depth with Linux. Commenters like you who reply with the solutions to the issues they encountered are literal angels 😇
Not sure why, but I had to do it a few times for it to actually work. I tried once on Wine 9 (which was the default) but it only installed 4.0. Then after seeing this I tried again with Wine 8.26, and then I did it *again* on 8.26, and it finally installed 4.7.2 (and also 4.5, 4.6, 4.6.1, and 4.6.2).
@@delecti I think it's because you already created a prefix with system 9.0 and that didn't work and you just replaced it by changing to wine-ge-8-26 and that doesn't work. Finally you just deleted everything to start again with wine-ge-8-26 fresh and that worked.
@delecti I'm trying to do your fix but the only wine options I see are System 9.0 Ge-proton Proton- experimental Proton 9.0 beta I just don't get all the other options
I am the most tech illiterate person and I still managed to make it work. Thank you so much!!! This is a phenomenal guide, and thank you for answering everyone’s questions in the comments!❤

So I went back to desktop mode to add more mods, but whenever I go to open mod manager it just… doesn’t. I click play, the button changes to stop for a few seconds, and then nothing happens and it reverts back. I have no idea what’s causing it and I’ve already uninstalled and installed everything from scratch but it remains this way 😭
@@roadworkaheadIsurehopeitdoes so the only thing you did was add more mods? Try removing the mo2 non-steam game and do it all over so it creates a new prefix folder.

I love that, even after posting this incredibly helpful video five months, you're also still replying to people and helping them when they get stuck. I'm gonna try my best to get this working over the weekend. You're doing god's work.
I try to help if I can. It's hard when some people just write it doesn't work though 😂 if someone is reading this and needs help, give me something to work with, like what steps you did and what's the error/issue and I'll try to help. Good luck and happy gaming 🎉
All you need to do to install Vortex is to add it as a non-steam game, slap it in proton experimental, and you're done. That being said, using Lutris to install/run Mod Managers blew my mind...
@@jase276 getting vortex to manage this steam game is a little more complicated. Non-steam version of this game is easy to mod with vortex. I have a video of it using vortex.
You're incredible! For anyone modding on an SD card, if you're having trouble finding where to find where your game is installed, an easy method is to go to Steam, right click on BG3 > manage > browse local files. Otherwise everything is exactly the same as above!
managed to get all mods working. even for those that was once red exclamation mark. u will need to put in the "link" of "your locally installed bg3 folder" into the "fpx folder which is created by winefix folder". In the bg3 mod manager settings -> open preferences, put in the links from the "fpx folder which is created by winefix folder" in to "Game Data Path" and "Game Executable path" should work for all now.
Huge kudos to you for making this video! Got an OLED deck a little while ago and have been really wanting to play BG3 on it but also didn’t wanna miss out on my mods. Following you along was so easy! Installed the script extender on top of it and managed to get all my favorite mods working like a charm. So ty!
the precision of this guide is the best i have seen online. i couldn't find anything till i found your video. without this guide i would have given up. Thank you
i saw someone else getting vortex and linked the installer in steam and startet that, then moved the bg3 game into the prefix folder in the installed vortex, fixed both paths of game and vortex to the vortex environment and managed his mods this way, by moving and changing bg3 to the vortex prefix folder, he could normally start the game bg3 from steam.
Oh. My. God. I've literally spend the whole weekend trying to make this work and I was going crazy, ready to give up. Now it's finally working, your tutorial was truly amazing and easy to follow and I can't wait to play with my favourite mods again. Thank you SO MUCH! ❤
oh. my. god. THANK YOU i was losing my mind trying to figure this out and interpret guides since i have bg3 installed on sd card this video was so clear and helpful, made me realize my big issues were actually pretty small ones that i was overthinking 😅
So I went to get the wine version in lutris but when I clicked to get the ge 8 25, there is only ge 8 26. I'm not sure how to get the other version. Can someone help advise me? Just heads up, I'm like BRAND new to modding so bear with me pls 😂❤️
Great video, your instructions are clear and concise. My problem is I’m not seeing the same Wine Version options you are. I set the runner as Wine, do the same executable as you, same Wine Prefix. Then under Runner options you have a bunch of different ones, but I only have four- System (8.0.2) (default), Proton Hotfix, Proton - Experimental, and Proton 8.0. I tried the system default one but in the end DotNet472 did NOT install, but two other ones did (dotnet40 and 45, I think but need to double check) I’m redoing it now, using Proton 8.0 as the runner instead so hopefully that works, but this really isn’t something I’m familiar with so if you have any advice/other ideas as to what to try I’d appreciate it! Also I copy/pasted the command from your Description into Konsole, but it doesn’t “run” like yours does in the video. Mine just says a bunch of info at once “Display a tree of processes” etc but never seems to move, not like yours did. Not sure if that’s related. Any ideas or advice is appreciated!
@@GrownUpGamingGUG thanks! Sorry, had to run out of the house for a bit there. I should have mentioned I had already seen you say that to another commenter so I tried that too but it still didn’t work for me, just showed the exact same four options. Instead I changed it to Proton 8.0 just to give it a try and that ended up working! I tested out the Horns mod like you did and it showed up as an option for a human character, so I think I’m good!! Thanks again for an awesome video!!
had the same issue and when i applied proton 8.0 to try instead the prefix folder cleared and now i cannot click on winetricks without lutris just freezing
Like others, I too have spent many many hours trying to get this to work properly and was finally about to give up and accept that I just wasn't going to have mods in my game. Thank you for finally providing an easy to follow tutorial that actually provides results!
Thank you for the video. I got kind of scared because nearly every reply on that steam community guide said it either doesn't work or is so complicated that everyone was screwing it up. You made it seem pretty straightforward so I'll give it a shot
I hope you get it. Although I also think it's pretty straightforward when I followed a written guide who I credited in this video, some people still can't get it.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Thanks! I've mostly got it working, but I'm struggling with the script extender. I know that wasn't covered in the video, but did you end up messing around with that?
Help. I did everything up through step 8 and when I go to open the Mod manager on Lutris, I press play and it acts like it is going to start and then nothing happens, and then the play button appears again. Then the cycle just repeats every time I try to click play. What did I do wrong?

AWESOME VID. Thanks. This was such a huge help for my cosmetics mod. I wanted to be able to play on the go, but didn't want to break my game saves. Also - LOVED the cooking content, hoping for more soon!
Hello! I got a question real quick, I have watched some of your videos and I'm going to mod BG3 on my deck. I have it on steam, but I have it on my SD card. I watched the video you made about modding games that are installed on the SD card, but given that I'm going to mod BG3 and you made a video for that (using the steam version), I am going to follow this guide. At what point would I need to do somrthing different for installing the mods on the SD card or would you just reccomend following the video with modding games on an SD card? Thank you!

I've gone through this process countless times and have always ended up getting blocked by some random issue or problem. following this guide has been no exception. This time, the Mod Manager now refuses to load from Lutris. No surprise there. And I followed this guide to-the-letter.
Yes!! There's a reddit post I found (I can't link it for some reason) called Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Manager + Script Extender on Steam Deck that worked for me!
This was so easy to understand- thank you so much!! Have you used the mod Party Limit Begone? I want to try that but it requires BG3 Script Extender and I’m not sure how to download that onto the steam deck
Your videos are infinitely more helpful than any guide, thank you!! I am wondering if you’d possibly be able to explain how to install Norbyte’s script extender in the mod manager, it doesn’t seem to register for me despite moving it to the bin folder 😭
Do all of these steps still work if your game is downloaded to an sd card and not thr main deck? Or do i have to reconfigure a few things, also dot472 won't download saying it needs a 32 bit version even when I turn my PFX folder into a 32 bit one
If you're game is on the SD card, the only difference is the game folder location. Are you using the same wine version as me as I don't get that message when installing .net 4.7.2.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG never mind I got the mod manager up and running, but Im having trouble with downloading mods to it, alot of the ones I try to download onto it don't show up in inactive mods, just the overrides

Commenting for new viewers: on this step right here 5:47 you actually need to install the wine g-e 25 thing from lutris itself or els this whole process won’t work i think they updated it and the default settings changed. Anyway you can download the wine ge 25 from lutris on the left hand there is a wine tab where you can manage versions and install it. And make SURE NOT to OPEN mod manager before step 9. Hope this helps!
Can someone please help me? I’m on step 9 and no matter what I do I cannot get BG3 Mod Manager to play, when I click play it starts loading and then just disappears. I even tried starting over from the beginning to make sure I did everything right and it still won’t open and play.
If I try to JUST install .NET 7.0 like some mention in the comments of the Steam Community guide, then the program will run, but it starts with a huge error message ("Error saving keybindings at [directory path to keybindings.json in BG3MM's Data folder]: System .IO .IOException: (32) Sharing violation...." and it goes on longer, but it seems like part of the message cuts off; would have to upload the photo I took of it). It also won't recognize ANY .pak files when I try to install my mods (and I've tried pretty much every one I've downloaded), nor will it install the Script Extender from the program menu. If I try to install BOTH .NET 7.0 and .NET 4.7.2 (assuming they both actually install correctly because I've had problems with that, too), then when I try to start BG3MM, it just won't run. In the logs, I'm getting the message "bad EXE format" and error code 256. I've tried replacing the BG3MM executable and configuration files, tried un- and re-installing the Prefix folder contents, tried un and re-installing BG3MM from Lutris, and tried un- and re-installing Lutris and purging the related files for it after each un-install. Still running into the same issues and I'm about at my wit's end. For what it may be worth, I'm running updates from the Beta Preview channel for my Deck, and I HAVE set a sudo password for Linux, though I haven't had anything pop up indicating that my password was required for anything. Also have my game and BG3MM on my SD card (yes, I've verified I'm using the correct paths and that the Larian folder on my main drive is properly linked). I JUST saw the comments here about downloading other Wine versions on Lutris and I'll give that a try next. Mine only had the one option of 9.0 to select. I'm going to venture I may need to reinstall my Prefix folder, if not completely reinstall Lutris from scratch to get this to possibly work. Again.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG That did the trick, it looks like. Program starts, no error message, I can install mods at least individually now. Still working out Script Extender and having trouble importing a mod archive from my other computer, but this is a lot better than what I was dealing with last night. Very glad to have seen these comments about the wine-ge builds.
Thanks for this amazing guide! I wanted to be able to play my PC campaigns on my new Steam Deck, but the saves were already pretty modded so I would have been stuck without this guide. I do still have the issue with red warnings about Script Extender not being installed even though the game says it's there, but it's a minor niggle given that everything apart from one custom head mod (which thankfully I don't need right now) seems to be working fine.
Hi there! Thanks for all of your help so far! When at the point of being “bin” and trying to copy the path to bg3.exe, a pop up shows stating “where do you want to execute it” and forces me to open it somewhere instead of populating the path. What do you recommend?
This video worked well for me and I was able to use mods for a good while! Unfortunately since the patch 7 drop, those mods are all busted now. I have my save files on steam cloud as well as a larian account so all is not lost (i think). But I hope you put out a new video showing us how to fix things post patch 7!! (Take all the time you need of course)
Wonderful video but I think it may now be broken. I’ve reinstalled it twice, gets a black screen or a crash everytime I first launch the Mod Manager. I’ve done everything in the correct order, installed Wine and even installed different nets. Maybe Update 7 broke it somehow.
@ thanks for the response. I’m using 8-26 and it’s fully plugged in as the default going into a fresh install, so I don’t think I’m repeating any of the other commenters mistakes.
@ incredible! It started working randomly on my third fresh install. I don’t even know what I did wrong! Sometimes computers are like magic to me. Thank you very much for commenting to help.
Hey there! Made it to the end. I have all the mods and I import them, but even after I save, my mods won’t save on the mod manager. When I load the game, it says my mods from my computer (same ones I downloaded on steam deck) are disabled and are not on there. When I reload the Mod Manager, I constantly have to redownload them besides saving them numerous times. Any suggestions?
Tried this and once I get to the part of installing dotnet 7.2 it never works. I followed your instructions to the letter. I've even gone through the comments to troubleshoot and installed wine-ge-26 amd set it as the runner as you and others have recommended. Every time it only installs 4.0 and then the process in the konsole just stops showing and I have no idea what's going on. I give up, I hate steamos so much why can't things just WORK, every time I try to mod anything I have to waste hours scouring for solutions and coming up with nothing. I'll just stick to playing modded games on pc, where things just work first try, I guess. How depressing.
@@deviwaazaa sorry to hear that. I suggest starting the process fresh. Maybe because you didn't start installing .net framework 4.7.2 on wine-ge-8-26 that might have messed up the prefix already so this time select wine-ge-8-26 from the start before installing .net framework 4.7.2.

Pls help 😭 a week ago I installed bg3 mod manager with no issues, and was able to use it with the steam version of bg3, but then all of the sudden it stopped working and now it won't let me use it despite reinstalling it multiple times and even resetting my deck to factory settings. It only happened after I installed some mods using the in game mod manager when I already had the third party mods enabled, so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it or not. I've tried reinstalling it multiple times exactly like how I initially installed it going by the directions in the video, but every time I start it up, it is unable to find the data folder, and doesn't let me browse my files to put it in settings. Even if I manually type in the path for the data folder and bg3 exe file, it doesn't work even if I press save settings. I've tried everything and it just doesn't work and doesn't save my load order. My profile settings are blank and it doesn't let me export my load order to the game or even a zip file and the option to export it is greyed out. I've even tried deleting the modsettings.lsx file but even that doesn't work. No matter what I do, I can't get it working like it used to :( Btw I have bg3 installed on my sd card since I have a 64 gb ssd. Also the script extender won't install anymore even when I redownloaded it from GitHub and put it into the bin folder after deleting the one that was already in there. I also can't install script extender with the bg3 mod manager. I've also tried uninstalling bg3 and then reinstalling it multiple times but that also didn't work. Some mods still work if I put them directly into the mods folder inside the bg3 folder which for me is located in /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3. But mods that depend on the load order don't work :( Idk what to do 🥲

Hey I’ve used this tutorial before and it worked perfectly fine. Since patch 7 I had to scrap and reinstall everything. Ive gotten to step to step 9 and set the paths but my mod manager has few lines of error about saving keybinings? When I try to import any mods I get a green box that says no pak found. I’ve tried multiple mods with no success. Any advice.
I’ve also searched on GitHub for a solution. Any idea what this means? Possible solution to "no .pak found". The command to create the link creates a broken link for me, if I use it as written (using my folder structure). The change I needed to make functioning link was to remove the quotation marks and "escape" the space in "Larian Studios" with \ Linux doesn't like spaces in folder/file names. It would look like this then: ln -s /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian\ Studios/ /home/deck/mods/BG3/wine_pfx/drive_c/users/deck/AppData/Local/Larian\ Studios You may need to mess around with it on your side, I've done terrible job at explaining it, but the broken link seems to be the core issue for me.

Don't give up! 😂
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Hey so I followed the guide but when I had to install the dotnet thing I don’t think it ever worked. I get ngen.exe not found.
Thanks for the Super Thanks! Gives me a reason to keep going! :)
Glad I could help!
Thanks for sharing 🙏
How do you get to the local then Larian studios folder?
Of course man. Always supporting the channel!❤
Hey, the SneakySnake, thanks again for your support! :)
Good job 👍
thank you thank you thank you!!
@delecti I'm trying to do your fix but the only wine options I see are
System 9.0
Ge-proton
Proton- experimental
Proton 9.0 beta
I just don't get all the other options

This looks so much easier than installing vortex. You really are great at giving instructions, thank you so much

All you need to do to install Vortex is to add it as a non-steam game, slap it in proton experimental, and you're done. That being said, using Lutris to install/run Mod Managers blew my mind...

You're incredible!
For anyone modding on an SD card, if you're having trouble finding where to find where your game is installed, an easy method is to go to Steam, right click on BG3 > manage > browse local files. Otherwise everything is exactly the same as above!
Thanks for the tip! ☺️
Thanks for your hard work on the video!
Can you elaborate on this? I don’t see the manage option
managed to get all mods working. even for those that was once red exclamation mark. u will need to put in the "link" of "your locally installed bg3 folder" into the "fpx folder which is created by winefix folder". In the bg3 mod manager settings -> open preferences, put in the links from the "fpx folder which is created by winefix folder" in to "Game Data Path" and "Game Executable path" should work for all now.

i saw someone else getting vortex and linked the installer in steam and startet that, then moved the bg3 game into the prefix folder in the installed vortex, fixed both paths of game and vortex to the vortex environment and managed his mods this way, by moving and changing bg3 to the vortex prefix folder, he could normally start the game bg3 from steam.

I tried the system default one but in the end DotNet472 did NOT install, but two other ones did (dotnet40 and 45, I think but need to double check)
I’m redoing it now, using Proton 8.0 as the runner instead so hopefully that works, but this really isn’t something I’m familiar with so if you have any advice/other ideas as to what to try I’d appreciate it!

Again.
yes go get wine-ge and try again.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG That did the trick, it looks like. Program starts, no error message, I can install mods at least individually now. Thanks for this amazing guide! I wanted to be able to play my PC campaigns on my new Steam Deck, but the saves were already pretty modded so I would have been stuck without this guide.
No matter what I do, I can't get it working like it used to :(
Btw I have bg3 installed on my sd card since I have a 64 gb ssd.
But mods that depend on the load order don't work :(
Idk what to do 🥲
Maybe the mods are conflicting? You should add mods one by one to troubleshoot where the problem is.

All of the other buttons like "save load order to file" and "export active mods to zip" let me click on them, but the "export order to game" one is greyed out. Hey I’ve used this tutorial before and it worked perfectly fine. Since patch 7 I had to scrap and reinstall everything. The command to create the link creates a broken link for me, if I use it as written (using my folder structure).
The change I needed to make functioning link was to remove the quotation marks and "escape" the space in "Larian Studios" with \
Linux doesn't like spaces in folder/file names.
It would look like this then:
ln -s /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian\ Studios/ /home/deck/mods/BG3/wine_pfx/drive_c/users/deck/AppData/Local/Larian\ Studios
You may need to mess around with it on your side, I've done terrible job at explaining it, but the broken link seems to be the core issue for me.
Double check .net framework 4.7.2 is installed correctly.
@@GrownUpGamingGUGyep you were right it didn’t download. But now that it’s installed correctly my mods aren’t showing up in my bg3 mod manger. The paks are reading but I can’t see them unless I launch bg3 through mod manager.
I didn't need to load the game with bg3mm. Didn't know that was a thing.
This has been si helpful thank you ☺️ i am having trouble finding my downloaded mods to add them to Lutris like when you do around 14:00 and im not sure why 😞
put the mods somewhere easy to access like the downloads folder.
Excelente! Después de 3 días por fin lo pude descargar, estaba buscando una guía como esta. Gracias a sneakysnake tmb 😊
Glad to help! Happy Gaming! :)
i dont have that wine version to run bg3 mod manager. system 8 is the default and thats my only option
Left hand side of lutris there's a wine tab, click manage versions to download and install other wine versions.
When I try to run winetricks, the prefix folder is generated but the window never pops up for me to choose “select a default wineprefix”. I tried with the 2 most recent versions of wine ge but get stuck at the same place. This is my first time using Lutris so not sure if I’m missing something.
Have you tried changing wine version in runner options?
@@GrownUpGamingGUG in the “manage wine versions”, there were only 2 wine ge versions available to download, 26 and 27. I tried both of those in the runner options and it didn’t progress past the part I’m getting stuck on.
For you I just tried to run bg3 mod manager with runner option set to wine-ge-8-26-x86_64 and it still works the same. If you really need to use the other version you can also install it with protonup-qt.
@@GrownUpGamingGUGthank you for checking the other runner version for me. Since it was working for you, I ended up reinstalling Lutris and starting over to see if it would help. Not sure what changed but I got past the spot that I was stuck at and am now waiting for net 4.7.2 to finish downloading. Hopefully the rest of the steps go smoothly but I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and help me!
@@emilymark8655 good luck 🤞
Got all the way to step eight, and then the larian Studios folder disappeared when it was there before is there anyway to make it come back? 10:13
It disappeared? Must of done something?
I just ran into the same issue!
I reloaded a save file from bg3 and redid the earlier steps to pull up the larian file in another tab. I hope that helps? I'm also trying to get this to work but this tutorial is definitely the best so far!
Good luck 🤞
Same for me
Where did you get all those Wine versions in runner options at 5:36? I only have System (9.0), GE-Proton, Proton (9.0) and Proton - Experimental. The Proton doesn't like 32bit and the system will not start.
Left hand side of lutris there's a wine tab, click manage versions.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG thanks now it works 😁
@@snowtiger_021 great 👍
Muy buenos videos, Sigue asi!!
Thanks for your comment! 😌
I suspect this should work even smoother, now that bg3 has official in game mod support.
@@travisretriever7473 haven't tried the latest update 😅

Hello! I did everything correctly, and set my runner to the Wine-ge-26 x86, and after linking the Larian studio files, when I try to run the BGE mod manager, it won’t open! It will start to run and then immediately stop. Please help 😩🙏🏽
You could try another runner option or probably need to start fresh and reinstall everything. Good luck 🍀
Were you able to solve this?
I've had a problem where I had to reinstall everything, when this tutorial worked for me before. Now it says no .pak file found. Any solutions?
What mod are you trying? Did you read the instructions on the mod page?
Finally got this working thank you so much!!!!
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment!
Ive followed every step exactly. Got to step 8 and my mod manager wont run. It tries to open and then nothing happens.
I would try changing the runner options to a different wine or proton version.
Asking for help: I followed every step, Mods worked fine. After the latest Steam Deck Update when I’m trying to open the BG3 Mod Manager via Lutris, it’s not loading. Mods in the game are working, but I can’t open BG3 MM! Can someone please tell me what to do? Thx a lot 🖤
I'm on steamos 3.5.19. what are you on now?
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Same! I thought about re-installing Lutris, BG3MM, ...? Thank you for your fast response!
@@linda6668 I think doing it from scratch is what I would do.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Alright, I will do that! Would you deinstall it first or just install it new? Thx
If it helps, after trying to install DotNet 4.7.2 for a full day, and then coming back to the comments to find out that you can change the Wine runner on the left side of Lutris (I needed to install the wine-ge-8-26 from that menu). I did it all and immediately tried to install DotNet 4.7.2 again just for it to get stuck once again aftet waiting for an hour.
My fix? Delete the current BG Mod Manager set up in Lutris, clear the Prefix folder, restart your steam deck...and start the set up in Lutris all over with the wine prefix :D
Overkill, but it works.
@@kpk90 yes sometimes starting fresh is the best way. I think because you used a different runner and then changing to wine-ge-8-26 might have messed things up.
Was able to get this to work but had to do the steps backwards. I also didn't create a prefix file.
I threw everything together and didn't link any folders.
Mods work. Created the Lutris file ran the exe then installed dotNet.
Tested it out and it seems to be working.
Wow that's amazing 😄
First off- thank you for doing all this work and sharing with folks! When getting to the first Lutris step, I'm only seeing 4 options for the wine version and none of them look like yours. Did I miss something? 🥺
Left hand side of lutris there's a wine tab, click manage versions to get more.
Found it, wow just super blind after trying to figure this one out solo. Appreciate you!
@@GrownUpGamingGUGJust wanted to say, this issue was the *one* thing preventing me from getting mods going on my Steam Deck. Super glad I found this comment and reply, because after getting that Wine version from the left I finally got mods working!
Thank you so much!! Seriously you are the best! 😊
You're welcome! 😄
5:40 i cant find all of these wine versions, all it shows is "Custom (select executable below)" and "System (9.0) (default)" im not sure what i did wrong there
Left hand side of lutris there's a wine tab, click manage versions.
I’m stuck at Step 9. BG3 Mod Manager isn’t launching/ playing. I clicked play and it doesn’t load up at all. Any suggestions? Help! 😢
Maybe start again fresh 💪
Were you able to solve this?
@@muffinwar1959 no I wasn’t 🙁 could you help or have any suggestions?
same problem here, i can install dotnet476 now but then at step 9 my BG3MM not run. i got the "Exit with return code 13568" in log.
@@yungnaa I ended up re-doing all the steps and it opened up. I originally had my mod manager in an extra folder so I made sure to remove any extra folders and that it was just like the video (I’m not sure if that was the reason why it didn’t open tho)
I got to the point of installing 4.72 but the process got interrupted by me losing my wifi signal. I tried to install it again and The konsol command doesnt show me anything other than the instructions of the command. I get the prompts at the beginning you have to click but nothing seems to happen after. I waited well beyond 15 minutes
it takes around 15-20 minutes to install .net framework 4.7.2 with good internet connection. use the command prompt in konsole to see the progress else you will panic like i always do as it feels like nothing is going on.
I cant install .net 472
It says ngen.exe not found :(
Edit: could it be a problem of low disk space?
Are you using wine-ge in runner options ?
AHHHH IT ACTUALLY WORKED THANK YOU SO MUCH :))
What do you mean actually? 🤔
This is crazy it’s said steam deck is basically a hand held pc and when you get mods on pc from your steam account shouldn’t it just transfer to your steam deck? Since it’s on your steam account??
@@sabrinagidney6066 pc is generic because there's windows and Linus operating systems and most people understand they are different. Like a phone is generic as it has iOS and android operating systems and they are different too.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG ahh makes sense
I’m at 10:02 and when I go to local, only one “Local” folder shows up. The one with Larian Studios and all of that isn’t there. Did I mess something up?
@@brittanys1997 are you sure you are in the BG3 prefix folder? You probably got the wrong folder.

Some people also have this problem. I'm not sure why but I don't have this issue. I'm using the latest stable steamos 3.5.19. you may also try another proton version.
Were you able to solve this?
Went through the steps. Mod manager worked and then I closed the manager, downloaded a few mods and now the manager won’t open again. Tbh trying to mod games on the steam deck has been turn off from using it over a gaming computer
It's Linux, it will be more difficult. Stay in there!
I had this same issue. I restarted my steam deck a couple times and now it’s opening again through Lutris just fine. I have no clue why. But so far it’s working again.
I’ll update my comment if it eventually stops working all together and we need to figure out a new solution 👍
im having trouble with the mods, the only difference that i saw when doing it on mine was in lutris i didnt have any of the 'wine-ge-' wine versions, the only ones that popped up was the proton ones and System (9.0) as the default and it is not letting me export order to game, whenever i try to launch the game through the manager, it gives me a 'Couldn't load dxgi.dll'
Left hand side of lutris there's a wine tab, click manage versions.
I got the wine-ge- thing now, but it's still not able to launch, the launcher where it supposed to say 'public' and 'current" next to where it says 'profile' and 'mod order', is just blank, it is also still giving me the 'can't load dxgl.dll' when I try to launch the game with the launcher
@@Amigmamale I didn't launch the game through the launcher though in the video.
Hi! Im having trouble getting this to work on my steam deck. The game launches with mods just fine if I launch it from the mod manager, but for whatever reason the mods don't carry over when I launch from the steam client. I thought that would be fine, but the manager version doesn't support controller which defeats the purpose of playing with the steam deck. (I have the game on an SD card if that makes any difference). I was wondering if someone could help with this! Thank you
Not really sure, works fine for me, I never open the game from the mod manager.
It does not work for me, i followed every step but when i need to.install net 4.7.2 it never installs, tryed to change to proton 8.0, 9.0, 9.0 beta, 7.0 nothing works. Only 4.0 installes. I tryed to install every single net file and somehow it worked but then the mod manager didnt turn on, on a rare occasion that it did (once) it froze my steam deck and i couldnt do anything again. Can someone tell me what am i doing wrong... :'(
