I just finished reading the book. It's lots of fun up until the explanation of the murder, and I can see why Christie is revered for her characterisation, red herrings and twists... [EXPLANATION OF THE MURDER INCOMING] . . . NONSENSE ABSOLUTE F-IN NONSENSE. The entire thing hinges on a man being apparently shot and the room IMMEDIATELY EMPTYING, no-one coming to see what the commotion is, NOT EVEN A SINGLE CREW MEMBER, then the man having enough time and a clear run to get around the ship STILL without anyone seeing him, then back into the lounge to actually shoot himself in the leg, and if anyone decides to stay in the lounge, go to the lounge, investigate the gunshot or simply go for a walk around the ship then the entire thing falls apart. And this isn't even a spur-of-the-moment thing, but supposedly a master plan worked out long before. I am genuinely in a mood now...!
This is an abridged version that misses out a lot of detail that would explain a lot of the things that rightly irritated you. The full version is worth a read.
