I heard the Academics didn't know the nature of the show, but knew it was a comedy. They were asked to respond like the questions were serious. As a retired academic I can assure you that would not be difficult. Cunk's questions are never as mad as ones you can get from real students and you have to keep a straight face.
@MrDaiseymayoh yes and that is the magic! I love the episode where she is talking to a war historian and it veeers into the thought of nuclear war and Philomena gets really upset and the big buff gruff historian is just lovely and they change the subject and talk about ABBA - it was an actual incredible piece of hard hitting comedy
Yea it's amazing British humour is so hilarious And american humour well let's just say they are still looking for it Just putting on funny clothes dont make you funny
Some Canadian, Australian too is fairly close. But nowhere near the *Density*! I'm glad I came across British T.V. & Doctor Who when it was quite good, but that's a completely different topic!
The experts know it’s a comedy but they don’t know what questions she is going to ask. The full episodes are on Netflix- much better than the chopped up clips! 😁
I vaguely recall one interview where the interviewee (a university lecturer) seemed to be unsure if it was meant to be humorous or if she was being serious but stupid. Cunk on Earth, I think it was.
Diane Morgan is hilarious. Watched her episode of Who do you think you are and she made me laugh out loud. She's just naturally funny, and doesn't take herself seriously.
There are lots of Americans watching this genius for first time and always wish they would have watched the full episodes,,,,,,which they are now doing and are absolutely hooked
@chugheslloydthey’re told that she isn’t a serious interviewer or intellectual and that she’s a comedian, but they’re told to keep a straight face and they don’t know what she’ll say or ask next, I saw an interview or a BTS to one of the episodes.
She's a riot.. Deadpan British humor. I enjoy listening to her. She even makes fun of British History. I find her very witty. The sarcasm is very British.
This is brilliant satire!! I'm in stitches. More, more!!! Thanks for this Joel!!!! A commentator said yesterday the reason we all feel like we're living in an alternate reality or took a wrong turn on an alternate timeline could be because we all died during COVID and now we're in hell. 'Best explanation that I've heard yet!! Cheers, John
One can tell you're used to watching British shows, you get it. I've seen quite a few US reactioners hearing only half of the jokes and getting few of them, not to mention how shocked they get
Humphry Davy in 1802 invented the arc lamp. Warren de la Rue invented incandescent bulb with a platinum filament in a vacuum in 1840. Joseph Swan and Thomas Edison made it viable for commercial use in 1878 with Swan public demonstrating his carbon filament but Edison patented it. So it all depends what you classify as 'the first light bulb'.
@greengrass811 Yep. Up until then he was just some nobody who worked in a lever shop. But, on the upside, his romantic partners all said that he was constant.
Well, if you bother to look properly at the vids, she put her foot down and nearly ran the guy over. A two-ton car is a dangerous weapon as we’ve found out all too often in European Christmas markets. He might have overreacted, but it was clearly a split-second decision.
@pulchralutetia - Not saying it was right. Indeed it was very unfortunate. ICE are there to enforce the law. Something the disgracefully corrupt authorities in MN are unwilling to do themselves. They would not be there if people like Walz were honest.
I think by now they know, in the UK, that she's winding them up. They're good sports, especially when experts like Brian Cox take part. She's brilliant! Treat yourself to full episodes.
The "experts" know it is basically a comedy sketch, and asked to ignore that, and answer the question as if they were addressing a genuine question. Apparently, there were many re-takes, as the Expert(s) rolled up in hysterical laughter at the questions being asked😅
At the beginning of her first show, people didn't know that she was a comedian, so you'll get a proper WTF reactions. Now everybody knows who Philomena Cunk is.
Because you may not hear it or because you may not be listening closely enough, when she talks about COLUMBUS sailing off the edge of the map and appearing on the other side,it sounds like she actually says COLUMBO-as in the detective-here in the UK we have a lifelong love/affinity for Columbo so anyone from outside the UK may miss the reference/joke entirely...plus the fact she`s taking the piss makes it even funnier.
Spot on! "Cunk" plays straight and somewhere I saw her talk about this (Colbert or Meyers???) & how she INTERVIEWS people. It is NOT only Americans that "think she is for real" rather than an actor playing "a character".🤣
Thanks for this. I've been going through a tough time but i couldn't help but crack up laughing at some of her hilarious gaffs and one liners. 🤣🤣❤❤ Off to find more of her videos now.
We love her over here in UK. I speak for everyone. I think at the start the professionals actually didn't know what they were getting into. But pretty soon TV exposure made that impossible.
"Back then, Americans weren't the humble unassuming people they still aren't today".
A classic lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 very good 👍
😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
She's Brilliant and your Grandmother obviously has excellent taste.
❤😂😂🙏🇬🇧
Totally! 🙂
You should check out full episodes, these compilations are usually chopped up by people who leave out a lot of the best parts
This is bits of two episodes of Cunk on Earth.
Yeah the editing on these was appalling, ruined a lot of the comedy.
I did that after he interrupted the second time. Don't mess with my Cunk!
Those reacting are normally watching the whole episode, we just see them reacting to a heavily edited episode to avoid the copyright laws.
@JamesonEst1780 This is clearly a reaction to a clip compilation. Sorry to break the news to you.
I heard the Academics didn't know the nature of the show, but knew it was a comedy. They were asked to respond like the questions were serious. As a retired academic I can assure you that would not be difficult. Cunk's questions are never as mad as ones you can get from real students and you have to keep a straight face.
I saw a post on YT where a professor said that it was now an ambition to be "interviewed" by Philomena Cunk.
Her interview of Cox was a good watch.
I heard they didn't know during the 1st series, but as that one got on TV, in the 2nd seasons they knew and played along.
The one man treating her like his toddler he babysits sometimes
Jim Al Khalili did a great job of pretending to be frustrated - he must have been ending himself internally! 😂
Its called "Taking The Piss " Aussies and Brits are masters at the sport 😂
No the people she interviews do know she’s/ it’s a comedy but have been asked to react seriously and they are brilliant
I've heard somewhere they are told to treat her like a small child and humour her
YERBUT,, THEY DON'T KNOW IN ADVANCE, WHAT THE QUESTIONS WILL BE. HENCE THE SOMETIMES EFFORTS NOT TO LAUGH.
THEY ARE TOLD TO REACT AS THOUGH SHE IS A CHILD. BUT SOMETIMES THEY SMIRK
@MrDaiseymaydon’t need to YELL
Nothing like the British sense of humour!
Yea it's amazing British humour is so hilarious
And american humour well let's just say they are still looking for it
Just putting on funny clothes dont make you funny
Some Canadian, Australian too is fairly close. But nowhere near the *Density*!
I'm glad I came across British T.V. & Doctor Who when it was quite good, but that's a completely different topic!
The experts she interviewed were told to answer her as if she was a curious child, I think.
Yep, there is an interview where I think Charlie Brooker says this.
That's what I heard.

There are lots of Americans watching this genius for first time and always wish they would have watched the full episodes,,,,,,which they are now doing and are absolutely hooked
Our fabulous British actress Diane Morgan, very funny lady 😂
Joel you must check out her interview with Brian Cox, he plays it so straight it's an absolute gem.
A real cracking guy and scientist.
The guy in the yellow trousers is Jim Al Khalili, one of the best communicators on maths and science fields.
She absolutely nailed it more truth in her story than fiction
Cunk on Shakespeare, and Cunk on Christmas. Both brilliant.
You're missing out on loads of context and feeder lines, you should check out full episodes.
Yeah way too edited
I always thought Americans didn’t get UK humour - well done for realising the joy of Philomena 🤣
Diane has another series called Mandy which is brilliant.
Cunk is good but Mandy is way better, yes.
3:18 they know that she is an actress but they’re told to trat her like an interviewer. They don’t know what she’ll say either
They do know.
Came to say that. The best one I found is when she is asking some professor of something about Chewbacca. 😂 his face gets me all the time
@chugheslloydthey’re told that she isn’t a serious interviewer or intellectual and that she’s a comedian, but they’re told to keep a straight face and they don’t know what she’ll say or ask next, I saw an interview or a BTS to one of the episodes.
She's a riot.. Deadpan British humor. I enjoy listening to her. She even makes fun of British History. I find her very witty. The sarcasm is very British.
They have the right to bare arms so they wear t-shirts
I think you meant 'bear' in this context!
@crabtonia No, I think I wrote exactly what I meant.
They know it's a spoof but they don't know what the questions on the subject will be, which shows how quick they are.
This is brilliant satire!! I'm in stitches. More, more!!! Thanks for this Joel!!!! A commentator said yesterday the reason we all feel like we're living in an alternate reality or took a wrong turn on an alternate timeline could be because we all died during COVID and now we're in hell. One can tell you're used to watching British shows, you get it. I've seen quite a few US reactioners hearing only half of the jokes and getting few of them, not to mention how shocked they get
America didn't invent the light bulb it is a British invention from Joseph swan
Swan didn't apply for the patent quick enough so Edison got the credit
Westinghouse discovered AC generators on the London Underground.
In response, Edison invented the electric chair.
@sandrascott5299 The same as Archimedes they say he invented mathematics but he really only took just took the credit for it.
@greengrass811 Yep. Up until then he was just some nobody who worked in a lever shop. But, on the upside, his romantic partners all said that he was constant.
It’s the Ali G / Borat method of interviewing Americans.
The US is great at supplying fodder for satire.
Refreshing to know that you ‘get’ our humour.
They may sound “dumb” statements, but there’s a lot of thought that goes into the questions from Ms Cunk.
I agree, the commentary is extremely clever in its duplicitous meaning 🙏
I think those being interviewed in the first shows didn't know it was a spoof, but the later ones did know.
I havent seen the USA ones yet!! Love her😂
'Murder is illegal in the United States'? The people of MN may currently be asking themselves whether that is true.
Well, if you bother to look properly at the vids, she put her foot down and nearly ran the guy over.
A two-ton car is a dangerous weapon as we’ve found out all too often in European Christmas markets.
He might have overreacted, but it was clearly a split-second decision.
@sirrathersplendid4825He still killed her! These ICE agents are vigilantes, agents of the law.
@pulchralutetia - Not saying it was right. Indeed it was very unfortunate.
ICE are there to enforce the law. Something the disgracefully corrupt authorities in MN are unwilling to do themselves. They would not be there if people like Walz were honest.
@sirrathersplendid4825yawn. We all saw the ridiculous, but not amusing press release.
@ppetal1 - There are vids of the incident taken from at least three different angles.
I love her. I’m convinced that all the people being interviewed know about her character and are asked to act super serious.
Yes Philomena Cunk is brilliant, would definitely like to see more reactions of her 🙌
She started with Charlie Brooker doing vox pop inserts with another character called Barry Shitpeas. Best comedy name ever. 😂
Very cleverly written.
First tie I have heard an American use the phrase "taking the piss". Nice one!!
As someone who works in TV, they interviewees fully know that she will ask these type of questions for a real answer in return.
She is also in Afterlife with Ricky Gervais and Motherland and millions of other things lol
It was great seeing Prof Jim Al Kalili keeping such a straight face. 😅
I ADORE Philomena Cunk! Thanks for featuring her.🥰
Bolton is a different accent to Manchester and Peter Kay is from Bolton
When she was on the Tonight Show, she said the experts know that it’s a comedy show, but they don’t know what the questions are going to be
I think by now they know, in the UK, that she's winding them up. They're good sports, especially when experts like Brian Cox take part. She's brilliant! Treat yourself to full episodes.
First time I’ve ever seen her she’s funny I’ll have to check her shows out thanks Joel. 😂😂
Joel you are speaking fluent English now. You have definitely been mixing with them. 😂
I'm so glad that you genuinely appreciate her dry wit. Thank you ❤
I'm a Brit and this made me laugh, particularly at the end 😊
Full episodes of cunk on Britain
She is brilliant!
She is brilliant and very honest
She is so funny 😂😂😂😂
4:31 "That is kind of true" ?? It's all true! 😂
Excellent series, brilliant comedy.
Thank you for introducing me in the UK to Philomena!
The people being interviewed were not only in on it, they were experts in their field!
Shes brilliant in Mandy too
Didn’t know this was out. Love her! Love you! Grandma
The land of the free - and slaves had me cracking
The "experts" know it is basically a comedy sketch, and asked to ignore that, and answer the question as if they were addressing a genuine question.
Apparently, there were many re-takes, as the Expert(s) rolled up in hysterical laughter at the questions being asked😅
The reactions are usually the funniest but this vid cuts them out, more please Woody!!
At the beginning of her first show, people didn't know that she was a comedian, so you'll get a proper WTF reactions. Now everybody knows who Philomena Cunk is.
I Love the Character😂❤
Yes, the people being interviewed know what they're in for!
Northern accents change from valley to valley, every 20 miles or so. Bolton is one of the best and ideal for comedy. 🇬🇧
She's a great actress/ comedian. Watch her " Mandy" series, it's hilarious 😅
She is brilliant ❤
she,s been an icon for a long time.
Hey Joel Happy New year My favourite RUclipsr Back with another amazing video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The people she talking to are told to think they are talking to 4 year old.
Love love Jps 🥰😍🤩❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💋💋💋🤗🤗😘💙💙
Yes!!!! Been waiting for this 😁
Sadly it's a rather bad cut and if you blink you miss a joke or two
Spot on! "Cunk" plays straight and somewhere I saw her talk about this (Colbert or Meyers???) & how she INTERVIEWS people.
It is NOT only Americans that "think she is for real" rather than an actor playing "a character".🤣
Full episodes only. Marvelous ànď you need to watch them twice to catch all thè jokes
I went to school with a kid who behaved like her, very lesson was a treat!
Cunk is a genius
Watch the Full episodes bro ❤
One has to listen very carefully to Philomena. If one doesn't listen carefully, it goes right over the head.
Love your reactions, hello from Dublin Ireland.
Diane Morgan - brilliant
Woooooow! I've been waiting for you to react to Philomena for a loooooooong time! Thank you and...I'm hoping for more 🙏😁😎
They have to know beforehand how crazy this interview is going to be or they would be either cracking up or walking out.
Brilliant ! Great job.
Love this.
When are you back in the UK? Please post an itinerary as I’d love to say ‘hi’ and buy you a pint . . . or lunch! You’re the best 👍
She's brilliant, we love her😂😂😂😂🇬🇧
No, the people being interviewed are in on it, 100%.
Awesome. Fight for freedom in your country JPS! We're relying on you! ♥
Thanks for this. I've been going through a tough time but i couldn't help but crack up laughing at some of her hilarious gaffs and one liners. 🤣🤣❤❤ Off to find more of her videos now.
Yes please more
Don't worry about mentioning the Birmingham Accent Joel lol you won't Start a World War your President will beat you to it!!
We love her over here in UK. I speak for everyone. I think at the start the professionals actually didn't know what they were getting into. But pretty soon TV exposure made that impossible.
Hilarious. We 🇬🇧 love “roasting” you guys…! ✌🏼🤣
Diane Morgan is the actress here. She is fantastic in Motherland which is a comedy on BBC iplayer & well worth checking out. Highly recommended.
Motherland is brilliant and she’s also in Afterlife as is Ricky Gervais ❤
He knows it’s Diane Morgan. He said that at the beginning.
Love her, she's very funny❤❤
She is so shockingly funny. I love her to bits. U.k
Philomena is a legend 😊
Excellent
She is hilarious 🙏👏🤝🤣
She's great, a fellow British piss taker! 😂Cuts to the bone, another bit of British naughty humour! 🇬🇧👍
Love it
