In the 60's Khayyam was scoring music for B and C grade movies. As compared to SJ, Ravi, SD, OP, KJ etc., he was way behind commercially. It was customary for the successful MDs to have a night dedicated to them. I have attended a few of them myself. If Khayyam wanted a night dedicated to him, it would have been a commercial disaster. So, Rafi's suggestion, if true, was totally valid. Khayyam only succeeded after the passing away of the 60's MD because he was a bridge between the 60's and the 80's. To suggest that arrogance had crept into Rafi is ludicrous.
