The context is how Norwegian «barne-TV» = «chlidrens tv» and kindergarden teachers, and shows for kids on stage, in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, which is our common childhood memories as Norwegian adults , often was a mix of very child friendly and awkward- and kind of creepy. 😅 Not intended to be creepy, probably, but still - weird and scary. Some of it. With a lot of dummies/dolls that the host interacted with. They were kind of kids and rude and cute and seemingly went a little bit of script, as to seem like separate persons. And Raske men are here making a skit for an adults only, late night show, where they can be over the top in every way. The shock factor of the vulgarity and sounds is definitely part of what makes people laugh, I think. But also the more clever aspects to it, like parodying barnetv. I remember this type of humor being portrait to me and my age group through shows like “The Simpsons”, “Family Guy”, “American Dad”. I am 40 now. Ten years younger than the guy in the middle, - Anders Hoff. (who’s is this year on the first season of “Vokteren”, which you should definitely do a reaction too, Tyler!! 😊😊 The beautiful nature, different from what I’ve watched you watch, till now. And the mad concept of the show. Like oh my god! ) And raske menn are funny, funny looking, and great comedians and actors. 😊 A bit too edgy for me, but still a bit funny. Definitely unforgettable. And yes this is a long time ago. The show was held a long time ago, and making fun of shows from an even longer time ago. On one hand - people react more negatively to this to day, and on the other hand - people try to protect the humor-arts from being denied to joke about any matter. («Barne-TV» is the show for kids that is on every evening, for half an hour befor they go to bed. Almost every kid in the whole country between the ages of 2-6, and some older siblings, sees the same half hour show, consisting of shorter episodes of different shows, and then has collective memories and learning. And it makes it easier for parents, cause they can say: Everyone has to go to bed after barne tv. Or, you need to be home in time for barne tv. Or, only those who have finished supper get to see Barnetv. Kind of clever. 😅)
You said that many of the jokes wouldn't go down well in the US. But remember, this is not a recent show. In the 90s and early 2000s, mainstream comedy in Norway was quite offensive by today's standards. Like the China-joke at 5:10, today many would view that as racist. I don't know when this first aired, by I would guess early 2000s. The comedians from that era who are still around have adapted. For example Harald Eia, who you reacted to some time ago. His comedy around year 2000 would often play right into stereotypes about minorities, for example Muslim immigrants. It was hugely popular at that time, but today it would be seen as offensive, or even racist or Islamophobic. At the same time, many miss the old times, where people would make fun of anything. That could explain the amount of views on YT. People go back to old shows partly because they are less sensitive. Also in the last year or so, a new generation of comedians make shows that are purposefully extremely offensive. Like "Gaute show". Personally I think that's complete trash TV but others feel like it's a breath of fresh air in a world that is getting overly sensitive.
Gauteshow is funny because it is basically elementary school jokes that you would hear in the recesses of the 2000s and while indeed the jokes are really shallow it's such a thrill down memory lane. In a way, it reminds me of what South Park used to be.
I hadn't watched this since before i got narcolepsy so it kinda shocked me that they said that😅 I'm not offended that they joked about it, but I wish they would understand it? Narcolepsy isnt falling asleep when stressed. The sketch is still very funny. I remember watching it at school. Everyone in the classroom was standing around the one computer and watching it on RUclips.
The "setting" for these types of shows is that it's basically making adult joke versions of children's programming as a lot of Norwegian produced children's programming (at least in the past) was (generally) 1 human with the rest of the cast being ventriloquism dolls. So these types of plays are based on our nostalgia for said children's programming and then just makes it, you know, a little bit insane for the adults.
Oh, and if you want a suggestion for leading up to Christmas, you could react to The Julekalender (playlist?list=PLk7qicbR-GKpQ7xUq9an78DpJVPznZQ9z for English subtitles), it's 24 episodes because it was a Christmas Calender leading up to Christmas, one episode per day.
07:09 Because English is like second nature for many - if not most - Norwegians, and things just sound better in English a lot of times than in Norwegian.
I take this as a stab at the fact that ventriloquists "getting away with" going over the line due to the technicality "the doll says it, not the person definitely not controlling them". 😅 Also, have to say, the auto generated CC is hilariously wrong some times 🤣
The guy on the right, Calle, is actually the sidekick on The Tonight show with Ylvis. He is so funny an animated looking. I think you have reacted to some Ylvis (the Ylvis brothers), You should react to Ylvis «Stories from Norway (part 1-7). I think you would like their humor more. When things are in Norwegian its not always translated in the same funny way as what we Norwegians experience. I was at one of «Raske menn’s» shows some years ago and I laughed with tears through the whole show.
Yes I sayed that you think he sayed. Calle, on the right is one of the funnyest comedians we have in Norway. Yes cant say we're prude what so ever. LOL
Yeah, they said what you thought they said! Haha! I remember watching this on tv as a kid and it was hilarious! We laughed and laughed!! There were a few catch frases from that show, and they were popular for years on.
Bro, you are genious. Tapping into the unlimited honey pot that is norwerian peoples need and want to be seen and liked by americans 😂 How did you figure that out? Incredibly smart.
12:33 The puppet master is just trying to tell an innocent story about the Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf, but the two puppets are just doing everything BUT acting seriously. First they argue about who is going to be who in the story, then the blond decides on being Red Riding Hood, but instead of doing the role of Red Riding Hood as an innocent girl, he turns the story extremely sexual by telling the Big Bad Wolf to do all kinds of naughty stuff to her. The Big Bad Wolf is unable to continue after this, so he acts as if you dialed a number on your phone that is no longer in use, indicating that he's shut himself off from reality from what the Red Riding Hood just did, when the puppet master fails to get the two to act seriously yet again, he finally snaps and decides to leave the puppets behind as he storms off, tired of dealing with their absolute unprofessional and immature behavior.
Norwegians have just as Americans gone more woke as the years have passed but it's starting to get back to normal now. The automatic Norwegian to English translation is not the best. If you want to see more from these guys with subtitles I propose "Raske Menn - Verdenshistorien på fem minutter" by Anna N. ruclips.net/video/KwyTg6eIOdk/видео.html Those subs are made the proper way.
I think the random English is a way to say something faster or if one forget a word in Norwegian we tend to use English alot. Even alot of slang is in English too😊
Oh this is so funny. 😂 The subtitles are awful and please watch the version with proper subtitles Norwegian humor is often dark and or dirty. Raske Menn are made for adults, but most people let kids watch most of it. They are noe longer a group, but I hope they will get together for something new. The blond guy is Kalle and is fantastic. He has worked alot with Ylvis. They are all crazy - in a good way
It would be nice with a link to the original video, to see how old this video is. Kalle ( the blond "doll") was also a part of Ylvis, 😆 very funny guy .
The subtitles arent that great, I would recommend searching for eng sub when looking for videos like this. A lot of the time someone has uploaded the video with eng subs
It’s mostly silly and not the best comedy team we have. It’s only a couple of their stunts I find to be funny. Calle (the blond one with the hair) is doing much better together with Ylvis.
Yeah this wasn’t the type of humor I hoped you had reacted to. So yes childish, I agree Tyler. I can’t help feeling it’s so cringe😅. Sorry guys, yes Im Norwegian. Theres plenty of other comedy sketches that could have been shown ;) Just my 2 cents.
Calle is the funniest of them! English is our second main language, and basically everyone understands it. It lets us step back in parodies like this, though some words don’t quite capture the English meaning and vice versa. I dunno with Fast Men, but I watched Ylvis in Las Vegas, and it just wasn’t the same at all.
You would probably have enjoyed this sketch a bit more if the translation had been correct. Also, no, you could definitely not make a sketch like this today in Norway either.
Blame Hollywood for Norwegians randomly speaking in English phrases. We watch movies, you know. This skit is old, maybe like two decades old. So the jokes may be a little bit dated.
Norwegians speaking in English , dude?.. First Norwegians reached North America 550 years before Columbus after adding first U.k markeds in the U.K. Thousands of Scandinavian words partly was a part of forming English.. cake is even a Viking word added to English.. You are American- Probably from the U.k. 550 years before Columbus. You are an immigrant in the U.S.
You're commenting that this wouldn't be ok in the US. This wouldn't be ok in Norway nowadays either. This is an old sketch, and it shows its age in some not-great ways.
Norwegian TV don't act crazy when it comes to fair use of their content. Don't pause this often, you don't have to. it's just very annoying and distracting.
You should watch the next video that popped up 😂 it’s “verdens historien på 5 minutter” or “world history in 5 minutes”
I second this
I third, fourth and fifth this.
Yes make him please 😂
Thanks for the suggestion!
