This is actually my favorite Myst game... and I'm about as hardcore as Myst fans get. This is a beautiful song, and a beautiful animation sequence. Thanks for posting :)
I have been a fan of Myst for years and I believe there is no better artist to sing for the games than Peter Gabriel. THIS scene is the reason Myst IV is my absolute favorite game of all time. It's so relaxing, and mystical at the same time, it's just perfectly fits the feels of the Myst games.
I'm totally enamoured with this song and the imagery from the game as it plays. It hits me like some sweet lullaby or calming meditation music. Thanks for posting this!
This was the only time when I remained (like someone else has already stated) open mouthed! I actually ran and shown my family this scene and got the same reaction from them also! this scene and music fit perfectly in a beautiful and enchanting harmony! What can you ask more from a game?
Whoa! Here I just said elsewhere on You Tube I wanted to see this. Now if only someone could describe it to me! Pete is awesome, as usual! I bet the visuals are amazing! Oh, before you ask, yes, I am blind...totally blind! :D
Peter Gabriel was also involved in Uru (though not as heavily as Myst 4). His song Burn You Up, Burn You Down appears on a radio and it plays during the end credits.
I'm a huge fan of the Myst soundtrack! I'm composing for a French RPG now! I really want to compose for a game like Myst in the near future! Not alot of woman in the video game composition industry!
I was kinda mentally exhausted after trying to solve the water puzzle and this song was calming my nerves. I didn't found the puzzle that hard. It took me one full hour the first time and it took me 15 minutes the second time.
nope tried that this version is a re-recording that hasn't been released yet. It's roumered to be on his new album, I/O, but that isn't going to be out for quite a while
I for one loved the Curtains song. I thought it fit with the whole vibe I got from Serenia perfectly, and because of that whole sequence I actually discovered Peter Gabriel and I've been obsessed with his music ever since. I agree with Shuboy05, after so much brain-straining, it was very nice to chill for a few minutes to some nice music. But damn that color puzzle took me upwards of three hours to complete.
When I saw this my first time, I cried, hard. I never heard this song before but I recognized his voice, I personally wouldn't have chosen this song to be in this game because the lyrics don't seem to fit but I didn't care, it was Peter Gabriel ffs... not in a million years I would had guessed anything remotely like this would exist in this game but when I heard this after completing all these puzzles to get there, I was in a trance and couldn't believe what I just witnessed.
@Gehn Saavedro Yeah, who would had thought Rand Miller would have been 2nd best actor out of the whole series even among hiring actors, and he hated acting. First was obviously Brad Dourif in Myst III
MYST4, one of the best computer games of all time, perhaps, THE BEST, however this puzzle was a killer.. Hey Partigal, the song is on the games CD-rom, just choose Credits in the main menu, and you will be able to listen to it.
@aptspire That is probably the most simple yet most frustrating puzzle in the game. Here is my advice. You cant go back on a path you just took, but you can make little triangles to make the colors turn how you want. Also notice that the colors all change in the same order as you touch them. And the one white spot that was originally there will not change as you touch it. Use that to your advantage.
"Curtains" isn't on PG's 3rd album. As far as I know it was only a b-side from the "So" album in its orginal mix. I too hope it makes it as a proper album cut one day - it's a totally gorgeous song.
Oh yea. Peter and Jack Wall are good friends. This team up was the most glorious moment in Myst Music history .... and then Jack wall stopped doing the soundtracks and Tim Larken screwed the series with Cyan world's acid trip into Uru -_-;
This is a different version from that b-side and supposedly on PGs next album I/O after his fans voted it the one song they would most like to hear on his laast tour.
@sarpedon3 Atrus would agree. Though because of that I felt like the stranger almost had to go into that territory. I thought it was like the Animus; acsesing memories by letting yourself go. And the drugs of course. Poisonous plants...oh yaay.
You aren't missing much. There is a lot of stuff thrown into Myst V that doesn't seem to fit in with the rest. I would still get it for the experience but story wise I wouldn't' worry to much about it.
Actually, as I understand it, the series takes place in the early 1800s. Yes, the technology makes one think "hmm, possibly later" (especially stuff like the spaceship in the first game), but...D'ni, heh. The only games in the series that take place in the "modern era" are Uru and End of Ages, and those are set in the early 2000s. (Yes, that would make Atrus more than 200 years old by that point, and he appears in EoA, but...again, D'ni, heh.)
First time I played this part, I would have SWORN the spirit guide was played by the guy who plays Atrus. I was shocked when I found out it was the singer.
true. i just wonder why i had Dutch..i would think it would be Spanish or something. maybe cause it was a limited edition of the game (because it came with the Exile game in the box as well)
thanks for uploading this :D, what screen capture software did you use be cause i was gonna make a video of the puzzle that follows this sequence but every screen capture software i have seen so far outputs a flickery video
funny how a lot of people didn't like this sequence in the game. i guess it depended on the player's state of mind when they got to this point. personally, this and the ending were my favorite parts.
So they DID make this specific track for Myst? I know Peter Gabriel made a version ov this track in the 80s. Peter Gabriel * Curtains (B-Side 1987) but that is something completely different
I love this song so much and I've notice everyone is having a hard time finding it, well I got it so send me a message and I'll figure out some way to get it to you.
Actually I enjoyed this scene because it was so out of place in a Myst game. After going through so many puzzles, its rather calming to sit back and listen to music. However the color puzzle (seen at the end of this video) was a little too frustrating.
this "travel" is like an Astral Travel? in Astral State? Cause I read about this and many people with real connection and spirituality talk about this... The Amazon Cultures talk so much about it, and I play many special games because it's good for our minds have new experiences... Perhaps many close people never see about that, but It's very important and many cultures and comunities follow many things than others don't understand...the MerKaBa is in us from Mu, Atlantis and other ancestros!
I like how they turned the game into a drug trip. [/sarcasm] They should have stuck with realistic scenarios, not this dreaming crap. Aside from that, it seemed like that whole sequence was added in to bring attention to Peter Gabriel or something.
Your opinion came out rather tunnel visioned. It aggravated me to hell. This scene was edited out. You fast forward through this entire thing without ever really seeing most of the graphics, or hearing the song. It's rather sad it happens... But the game is FAR too long with all the puzzles. Maybe it was just to save time. Unsure.
Well. Maybe you should be happy that it was technically removed from the game? And maybe it was to bring attention to him in thanks of him actually working with Jack Wall to make the entire soundtrack? Don't be a jackass just because you can. It was a great scene change in which really pulls to the saga of Myst. And Myst is more proud of their graphical arts. Not being able to put a fucking person in a game.
And what difference does that make? This music simply has no place in the Myst franchise, especially with vocal lyrics. The games set in the fucking 1900s.
Such a memorable scene. A modern classic I'd say.
This is actually my favorite Myst game... and I'm about as hardcore as Myst fans get. This is a beautiful song, and a beautiful animation sequence. Thanks for posting :)
uff, a decade late, but I agree! Pity the monkey puzzle in Haven always gatekeeps me
I have been a fan of Myst for years and I believe there is no better artist to sing for the games than Peter Gabriel. THIS scene is the reason Myst IV is my absolute favorite game of all time. It's so relaxing, and mystical at the same time, it's just perfectly fits the feels of the Myst games.
This was such a wonderful surprise in the game! Thanks for reproducing it here so we can enjoy it again and again.
A beautiful hidden gem, inside a video game. Thank you for posting.
I'm totally enamoured with this song and the imagery from the game as it plays. It hits me like some sweet lullaby or calming meditation music. Thanks for posting this!
I put the original 1987 version and this remake in my Gabriel playlist. Thanks for uploading!
This is Peter Gabriel being peak Peter Gabriel and I wouldn't have it any other way.
This was the only time when I remained (like someone else has already stated) open mouthed! I actually ran and shown my family this scene and got the same reaction from them also! this scene and music fit perfectly in a beautiful and enchanting harmony! What can you ask more from a game?
I love this part of the game!! Unbelievably beautiful
I enjoyed the cutscene, then SMASHED my mouse during the puzzle
i wish they make a movie after this game! best game out there!!!
Curtains is certainly released. It is the B-Side of the "Big Time" single. Of course, this is a significantly different edit for the game.
My favorite part of the game...it's so soothing!
Even the puzzle with the spirits is fun!
This is my favorite myst game..
This was a fun game! I liked this puzzle myself...and the song too!
Whoa! Here I just said elsewhere on You Tube I wanted to see this. Now if only someone could describe it to me! Pete is awesome, as usual! I bet the visuals are amazing! Oh, before you ask, yes, I am blind...totally blind! :D

best. cutscene. in the game. period.
I'm a huge fan of the Myst soundtrack! I'm composing for a French RPG now! I really want to compose for a game like Myst in the near future! Not alot of woman in the video game composition industry!
That...fucking...puzzle...
Many hours of rage in this puzzle, yes.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this with non-gamers such as myself.
This series was my life.
^_^
I was kinda mentally exhausted after trying to solve the water puzzle and this song was calming my nerves.
I didn't found the puzzle that hard. It took me one full hour the first time and it took me 15 minutes the second time.
nope
tried that
this version is a re-recording that hasn't been released yet.
It's roumered to be on his new album, I/O, but that isn't going to be out for quite a while
I think Myst 4 is the best in the series, a real masterpiece.
I think it was to be expected. Like all of Catherine's ages, Serenia feels more magical and impossible than logical.
He actually voiced spirit guide
Good day my friends may God give u a blessed week
I for one loved the Curtains song. I thought it fit with the whole vibe I got from Serenia perfectly, and because of that whole sequence I actually discovered Peter Gabriel and I've been obsessed with his music ever since. I agree with Shuboy05, after so much brain-straining, it was very nice to chill for a few minutes to some nice music. But damn that color puzzle took me upwards of three hours to complete.
as it turns out, Peter Gabriel HAS released the song in the past: but it's only available as a B side of the Big Time single, which is only on vinyl.
I just hope i´ll see something like this when i die.
PezunaProducciones I think that's implied. And did you consider you... "you" - saw something like this before um - "you" - were born?
When I saw this my first time, I cried, hard. I never heard this song before but I recognized his voice, I personally wouldn't have chosen this song to be in this game because the lyrics don't seem to fit but I didn't care, it was Peter Gabriel ffs... not in a million years I would had guessed anything remotely like this would exist in this game but when I heard this after completing all these puzzles to get there, I was in a trance and couldn't believe what I just witnessed.

anyone else suddenly fall asleep because awesomely relaxing this part is ?
"Curtains" isn't on PG's 3rd album. As far as I know it was only a b-side from the "So" album in its orginal mix. I too hope it makes it as a proper album cut one day - it's a totally gorgeous song.
I wish all my dreams were like this.
This is the part I got stuck in! I need to go back and try again. I haven't gotten past it yet. lol.
Oh yea. Peter and Jack Wall are good friends. This team up was the most glorious moment in Myst Music history
.... and then Jack wall stopped doing the soundtracks and Tim Larken screwed the series with Cyan world's acid trip into Uru -_-;
thanks :)
"Bad trip man... totally groovy..."
Myst V does more in continuing the Uru storyline than the Myst storyline, unfortuntely
Check out my piano renditions of Myst IV: Revelation & the Video Games Live Arrangement of Myst Medley!
Trippy...
This is a different version from that b-side and supposedly on PGs next album I/O after his fans voted it the one song they would most like to hear on his laast tour.
ooh, ok. thanks so much!! ^_^
Install the lastest patch. It should add the remaining subtitles. It worked with me.
If you go to their website, they offer 2 patches for the game. The latest is 1.3
In some point, you are right Rose..
But Tim's good too!
It probatly comes from the fact that Tim's using a Computer, Jack's using a Orchestra! :)
@sarpedon3 Atrus would agree. Though because of that I felt like the stranger almost had to go into that territory.
I thought it was like the Animus; acsesing memories by letting yourself go. And the drugs of course. Poisonous plants...oh yaay.

@Kelnosha same here, im usually pretty good at puzzles but i gave up.
I've actually managed to rip the song from the game. Came out in an .ogg file. easy to convert to mp3.
Actually, as I understand it, the series takes place in the early 1800s. If you read Atrus' journals you'd be able to tell that the year for the first one is 1993, so I'm pretty sure a Peter Gabriel song belongs there.
Why did you get tired of it? Was it too hard for you? Did you struggle and get frustrated?
I know and I did complete it two days after first seeing
oooooooh ok! thank you! :D
@Tweedbit Cathrine must have been a Peter Gabriel fan. *nods head* Wasn't the art an opportunity of endless possibility? >D
*wakes up* "aww, they took my kidney!"
As for the journal dates, my understanding is that they reflect D'ni years, not Earth ones.
Y'know... It took me a while to realise I had to look up at the end of the game...
My spirit was Air :)
Is it Gabriel who did the narration in the 2nd half (after the song?)
Yup. It sure is.
Oh yeah. In fact the spirit guide is PG'S VOICE. no kidding.
I loved that intro, but I got really tired of that game :P I did finish it though
this "travel" is like an Astral Travel? in Astral State? Cause I read about this and many people with real connection and spirituality talk about this... Rock singers should do more voice acting.
The subtitles come in a patch
how'd you get the English subtitles? when i went to put them on mine, it said it only had Dutch subtitles!
anyway, nice job!!
they should remak this with less hard puzzels, i never finished it tho i thourght it was good
I mean the little "make everything white" puzzle
That's the usual stuff you get from a game these days so it doesn't count!
say what?!
what version of the soundtrack and where can I get it?
@titanicpiano14 Well at least there's Yoko Shimomura.
Actually, the greater year isn't specified. Says '87. My bad.
This song really did make the sequence weird for me. Kinda took me out of the game a little.
the song was so fitting in game, but when i listened to it just like that while reading something it sounded sooooo boring
Strange... in the german version, the voice of the spirit is female...
Your opinion, naturally. I wasn't being a jackass, I was just letting you know how I felt.
And how was it technically removed from the game?
@CapitanBizarrely i think riven was a better game personally. Revelations was little on the easy side.
nah, 3rd one was the best
I like how they turned the game into a drug trip. [/sarcasm]
They should have stuck with realistic scenarios, not this dreaming crap. Aside from that, it seemed like that whole sequence was added in to bring attention to Peter Gabriel or something.
Errr...but the main point of the game IS the puzzles.
Myst IV was great, but Riven was more challening... abit TOO challening
Unsure.
i hated this part -_- it ruined this game for me. this and the whole "dream world" thing. just wasnt myst-like
I know now why i stopped playing this game at spire and haven. wtf is this shit? Compare it to riven, this is some godamn pop music video.
And what difference does that make? This music simply has no place in the Myst franchise, especially with vocal lyrics. The games set in the fucking 1900s.
Hedphelym The gaming world has no boundaries. Imagination is needed. Peace.
this scene is so incredibly out of place in a myst game, good song though
In some point, you are right Rose..
But Tim's good too!
It probatly comes from the fact that Tim's using a Computer, Jack's using a Orchestra! :)
