Building open source products is hard anywhere not just india. It is harder to do it for a database offering because there is plethora of options out there. And CTOs or even senior senior engineers just use battle tested DBs. Nobody wants to take risk with a new DB product. Most products like that came from Big Tech where they were internally used and proven. And then they would go out and promote it to the other world which again costs a lot of money and resources. So making money is a very long term game esp for tech products.
