I don’t usually comment on videos but I just wanted to say that I recently found your videos on RUclips and I’ve been binge watching them and the lore on Elden ring and I just got to this video and it just broke me down and made me cry at the fact that I felt very similar to you in a lot of ways and our lives had completely different courses but it really just hit me about your childhood and what video games were like back then and trying to be a content creator was treated like, especially the fact that I am just now in life feeling OK to start doing that for myself and I also just turn 27 so thank you for this video it was something that I didn’t know I needed to hear.

AgtJake it was great to hear your story. I've struggled with depression and have visited the dark corners of my mind where life just doesn't seem worth it. I have also spent many long hikes here in Arizona, they are great for clearing your head when it's not a thousand degrees out. I am so glad you found something you love, video games have done that for me. Hang in there and keep making content. I am always excited to see your next lore video!

I become a Tarnished after this video because I really appreciated learning about the person behind my favourite Elden Ring Lore Videos.
You're one of my new favourite content creators.
Thanks for sharing your story, it's super relatable, I've just been diagnosed with ADHD, Aspergers and Complex PTSD 😀 (it's a relief tbh)
Its pretty much been me, my dog, fish and a few stray cats along the way for the last 7 years. I make friends easily but don't get on with my family.
I'm just really glad your parents have been there for you when you needed them the most, I wish I had a mum like yours ❤️
I wish you all the best on the future.
I'm really good at Square Enix games but haven't had the guts to try the Dark Souls series but the lore of fromsoft games give me life.
You have been keeping me company when I've felt alone so thank you.
You content probably helps people more than you will ever really know.
    Take care

I'm 40 with BPD, manic depression and some really awful chronic anxiety. I was diagnosed at a fairly young age (early teens) and have struggled ever since. The constant combinations of meds long term, manic highs and lows, absolute shit show. I don't like comparing notes to those who share, but sharing is one of the best things you can do. Honestly, the past few years have been pretty brutal and Elden Ring was one of the things that kept me going. Sounds weird to a lot of people, but I really don't think it is. Finding things to keep you going, whatever they may be, that's so fucking important. Glad you are still around and making cool stuff. Cheers from Portland. 🖤🤘🏻

Thanks for sharing man. Video games can definitely have that effect on people. I have a similar story to yours, and without giving too much details, I too got to a point where I wanted to end it all.
At the time, I was playing World of Warcraft and told myself I want to at least have the super rare dropped mount, Invincible, before I go, as that was the mount I really wanted the most.
At this point, that raid tier was already soloable, and with my four max level and geared toons, I started farming the boss on a weekly basis. This took years and multiple expansions, and became something to look forward to every week, and without realizing it, I actually continued living and stopped thinking about that dark thought.
And by the time I -finally- got the mount, I was beyond ecstatic that I didn't even remember why I started farming it, until I had to share this exact story to another friend who was also going through a dark place.
Up to now, video games, along with therapy, have helped me keep my mental health positive. I am by no means a popular RUclipsr, not even close, but doing my video game recreations of my favorite video games have the same effect as farming that Invincible mount, and keeps me happy and going. 😁
Glad to know you're out of your dark place and now enjoy life! I've been seeing your content and enjoy watching it, but this story just made me a full fledged follower of yours. 🙏

People think I'm exaggerating when I tell them about DkS1's effect on how I view life, specifically it's challenges, and how it's responsible for my success today. I won't bore everyone with the details but I'm summation; I learned that you only go hollow when you stop trying. That everytime you bang your head against that wall that seems impossible to break through... each attempt makes the goal seem a little less impossible. Until you inevitably succeed. It might take 100 tries, but failure is baked into the experience.. not a set back.

Hey dude. From one 27 year old Jake to another, you’re not alone man. Our end goals may be different, our paths may not the same, but we ultimately want the same thing. Personal happiness and growth. I’m glad I came across your channel the past few weeks. I’m also working my way out of tough situations, but this will be the definition of our character. These terrible thoughts are not what defines us. They are the hurdles we must pass to continue to grow. How you’ve handled this situation so far has kept you alive. Kept your ambitions alive (foul tarnished). It’s all good to feel defeated and like a failure. Without that lesson of failure, you won’t ever reach your full potential. Keep it up dude. The last 10+ years have been rough for me, constantly sick and frail. This year got even worse. January I started having a really bad time, couldn't go out hardly at all, couldn't drive, couldn't play games. It was miserable. I found out that I had been having very bad seizures and while having answers it was still very difficult to understand and accept it. Still couldn't play my favorite games because those were what were triggering a lot of the seizures. I know having elden ring has literally saved me too. It got so bad right before it came out that I just wanted to give up. I've absolutely hyper fixated on this game, watching multiple play throughs, every lore video I can get my hands on and of course finally playing it myself. It's been a big help. I hope things continue to get better for you dude ♥️ life is very hard but you've got this!

Bro, thanks for sharing, people have a stupid habit of letting you down over and over again. Glad to see you didn't give it up and managed to turn things around!
I found your channel 1-2 months ago bc i also dove head first on Elden Ring (almost a month late really, money things) and begun "lore hunting" on the internet while playing. My relationship with Souls games was "bumby", for lack of a better word. My first Souls game was Demon's Souls, i had no F-ing idea what i was doing and the game pretty much broke me, i gave it up and went on do other things, but as the years went by and more Souls and Souls-like games came out i began thinking that maybe it was finally time to try again, i was older and a bit better at videogames (and internet), so as practice i bought Bloodborne, and from there, there was no turning back anymore. I'll prolly go back and play the other Souls games i've missed along the way, but for now i still have more Elden Ring to play and wait for DLC. The future looks bright for FromSoft and the community.

I'm glad I know this. I shed a tear when you said that your mom took a plane just so she could drive home with you. that's incredible.
I do have to say though that exercise and eating better will not cure all depression especially clinical. medication will always be the surest bet. exercise and diet help substantially in improving one's mood absolutely yes but a lot of us are still broken beyond that. I'm glad you were able to get out of your own head but again that's not the norm for most diagnosed cases.
regardless, I'm always happy when people with audiences speak about their own mental health struggles. eventually it won't be stigmatized. I'm very happy that you're doing better now.

Absoulutely hated my life for so long. It's really only becuase of my family that I have made it this far. Being the youngest of 4 who's a little on the slow side has usually put me in a co-dependant situation. FromSoft games teach a valuable lesson about the importance of struggle. Which is that we all have to experience it but we can choose how to process that struggle. We try to learn and grow from our anguish. So recently things have been on the upswing for me. I also have struggled with weight loss and inactivity. But I'm turning over a new leaf. After almost a decade or so I finally got an AA Degree, a Car, and I'm ready to get in shape and I've started blacksmithing to learn some skills and tap into my creative side, and hopefully start a buissness from it one day. Don't succum to the franzied flame, rejoice at life and let struggle propel us further.

Yeah, I found you because of Godwyn's Lore Hunting video and I found your way of discussing the game's lore quite interesting. This idea of gradually discovering more and more about the game was quite different from most videos on RUclips, which present everything at once to the viewer. I know this kind of video gets worn out quickly because so much of the game has already been discovered, but it would still be nice to have you back with the Lore Hunting series. I don't agree 100% with your theories, but overall I think your videos are pretty cool. Congratulations on the content and thanks for sharing your story.

I don't usually write comments (my bad, cant help it as I usually don't think my thoughts are worth the time to read) but I had this time.
Proud of you for making it through those times. And a good example for anyone in the same train of thought. I have been there, I know it takes a lot of str to get through it.
    wishing you all the best.

Thank you for being this honest about it. I've put off, and put off, even though I desperately want to be a content creator, but I'm always afraid I'm going to make the video, edit it, title it, upload it...and of course, nothing is going to happen, and nothing will continue to happen. I actually have gone through the process, downloaded everything, learned to edit, and got...nothing. 20 views? If that. So of course it can be soul crushing, and life is just depressing in general, take it from someone on 4 meds and in therapy now. This was super brave.

I just feel you. I'm not me anymore since years and it's even hard to remeber who I was. Gulty, sadness, bad thoughts in general are devastating me costantly but I'm not giving up on them. I suggest to you to seek psycholgic help from a professional because you don't know if you will fall again in that black hole called depression, and seeing someone might help you even if you are at the highest point in your life.

I have over 240 hours still on the first playthrough, just beat Melenia, and am finally at the final boss but honestly trying to keep it rolling by going through as many questlines that are still available to me at this point. You might want to try ESO at some point if you liked Skyrim. Been playing it off and on for 7 years and is fun getting on with my friends running dungeons/PVP or even keeping it single player running quests. I thoroughly enjoy your content. Keep up the good work, take care of yourself, and congratulations!

New subscriber to your channel, but wanted to say, have really appreciated your approachable, thoughful, and thorough analysis of the lore, as well as how you've handled the setbacks from the reddit and youtube crowds. Really enjoy your elden ring content, hope to see more of it when the DLC comes out, or if you do other lore dives in other fandoms
