I can see yourself evolving along with us, I remember the days when in Oxygen Builder you were throwing classes left and right from OxyNinja or the early days of ACSS.
I think that with time, creating ACSS you realized how important are the things you are giving us now such as variables and functions.
I'm glad that you don't keep this knowledge only for yourself but immediately share it, making our lives easier and we won't have to live in ignorance and make the same mistakes.

    • @Gearyco
      @Gearyco  Год назад +9

Correct. I was building based on the limitation of the tools I was using. By creating ACSS, and with builders supporting things like variables, those limitations are lifted and now we can exercise our full anti-chump power in the sites we build :)

    • @codebricks

He won't admit he's been evolving. The examples on his agency website show all the bad practices he's been preaching others shouldn't do. But he knows them so well because he's done them first hand. Many of his older videos show what he knew then versus what he knows now.
But the best way to learn something is to teach it so it makes him a better developer and allows him to teach it to others. I wish he would quit acting like this is all something he has always done instead of what he has evolved into doing over the past few years.

    • @ZailCZ

I remember that as well. What confuses me now is, do we still should use the ACSS classes, or use variables only now?

It was a great lesson, and I can appreciate the merit of this approach, however, it felt like a fork in the road, wherein a person must have a coding background to utilise these best practices to their full potential.
For people without a coding background, no-code tools like Webflow, Elementor, and the like, enable them to achieve their goal of building websites but through a longer path.
You might rightfully call that longer path a path through Chumpvillle, but that’s a perspective of an seasoned coder.
Your principles are sound and I wish there was an easier No-code way to bake those principles within the builder.
Kudos again to a great lesson and a fresh approach.

You either decide to go with a professional approach, or an amateur approach. Ofcourse utilizing pro solutions requires you to learn, but it’s a very worthy “tradeoff”. You have to decide for yourself what’s important to you.. ease of use, or doing something the best it can be done.

These variable names you selected seem confusing.
    --section-block-padding
    --section-inline-padding
a.i describes these as follows: "In CSS, block padding refers to the space between the content of a block-level element (such as a or element) and its border. It can be set using the CSS properties padding-top, padding-right, padding-bottom, and padding-left, or the shorthand property padding. Block padding is applied to all four sides of a block-level element by default, but each side can be specified separately using the individual properties." Since it refers to all four sides, 3 months later it may be confusing. Maybe.
"Inline padding, on the other hand, refers to the space between the content of an inline-level element (such as a element) and its border. It can be set using the CSS properties padding-top, padding-right, padding-bottom, and padding-left, or the shorthand property padding. However, unlike block padding, inline padding only affects the top and bottom of an inline-level element, and left and right padding have no effect."
    Maybe clearer:
    --section-top-bottom-padding
    -section-left-right-padding

Hi Kevin. Huge fan of your videos, I feel like I didn't start on the right path until I discovered your Page Building 101 courses.
Quick question: What are we trying to achieve with the CTA overlapping? I am not understanding how it visually creates a more interesting effect. Yes, I see that the CTA in Section 2 is going into Section 1, and Section 1's padding is adjusting to it so that the top and bottom are dynamic and equal. But, why are we trying to make the CTA in Section 2 go into Section 1 at all? Is it just to stretch the background of Section 1 so that it covers half the CTA of Section 2?

Intrinsic design, often regarded as the successor to responsive design, is fundamentally built upon variable design principles that prioritize flexibility and adaptability. This approach empowers design elements to "know" how to behave or adjust themselves according to different screen widths and viewing contexts, ensuring a seamless user experience across various devices and platforms.
While classical responsive design relies heavily on media queries to establish breakpoints and make "jumps" between different layouts, intrinsic design takes a more fluid and dynamic approach, allowing design elements to adapt to their surroundings more organically. This not only improves the visual appeal of a website or application, but also enhances its overall functionality and usability, catering to the ever-evolving landscape of digital devices and user preferences.
By embracing intrinsic design, developers can create more versatile, resilient, and scalable solutions that better serve the needs of a diverse audience, while also ensuring that their creations remain future-proof.

    • @maxziebell4013
      @maxziebell4013 Год назад +3

I was utilizing a JavaScript function, coupled with MutationObserver, to dynamically set properties such as scroll position and element dimensions as CSS variables on the :root element, as that has the potential to significantly enhance the adaptability and responsiveness of a design. This approach allows for real-time updates to design elements based on user interactions and screen changes, providing a more engaging and fluid user experience. It also allows for container width-based solutions… but if you do things like that you need to make sure that it degrades gracefully.

I have one question. I know the root selector is a standard CSS thing and you seem to use Bricks on all your videos nowadays so I see Bricks respects the :root selector. Does this work independent of whether it's Bricks or Oxygen because I'm using Oxygen. Thanks :-)

    • @Gearyco

"root" in Bricks isn't the same as ":root" in CSS. "root" in Bricks is a placeholder reference for whatever the current selector is. If I'm on the ID, it's simply like writing the ID in CSS. If I have a class selected, it's the same as writing the class name. That's all it does. It doesn't actually add code to the :root.

It seems like CCS Variables are called SCSS according to this frame @15:35 ?
So it won't work with WPCode lite that cannot do SCSS snippet.

I made a Wordpress multisite where I experience with builders and plugins. The main site is a Bricks one but its purpose is not for demos but only to welcome me with a cool homepage allowing me to log into the multisite admin.
Well, I installed WP Code lite on the Bricks that is for demos but built the testing page on the main site...
      Who said "dummy" ? 😅
So Yep, it works as expected, just like you showed.

Wow, I'm genuinely surprised by your comment! This creator is nothing short of legendary in what they do. There were moments when I actually wished the videos were longer because of the depth and insight provided. Have you fully engaged with the content? It's disheartening to hear it described as overly lengthy.
After spending months searching for a viable Elementor alternative, my journey led me unmistakably to Bricks. This wasn't a quick decision; it took countless hours over several months. The community and individuals like Kevin only solidify that choice further. Moreover, considering he has several related products, his restraint in not excessively promoting them within these videos is nothing less than admirable. It speaks volumes about his integrity and genuine desire to add value.
In my eyes, this approach not only demonstrates his expertise but underscores his character as both a champion in his field and a genuinely good person.
