As much as I don't want to divide reality into good and bad, I think this group is far more idealistic than most metal groups. Most metal seems to go, Everything's bad! Here's a fistful of mud!.... These guys actually have ideas and shit.
Thank you for saying that. Really. I feel like metal groups have this thing where they need to sound hard or rebellious. We get it, you're angry and want to destroy the concept of social norms through your music but, there has to be more. Tyr actually got me more in touch with my celtic roots (the band is more Norse than Gaelic) by their sound. You know a band's sound that brings out your pride in your people or more connected with your heritage? That's these guys for me.
Justice. Respect. Unity. Forgiveness. Peace. These are the concepts I see in TYR and why they became one of my favorite metal bands. In a world of rebels, and posers, it's refreshing to see a band be REAL, and use their heritage to spread just ideas, deep/forgotten history, and overall positive messages. Not divide peoples, endorse senseless violence, or constantly go on about the devil/demons. To me, THAT is more rebellious and wholesome than going for a cookie cutter formula like most bands nowadays....
TYR is very much a good band. They preach justice for all, and wish for saftey in dark times. Despite what some fans and haters alike may think TYR is NOT a racist or xenophobic band. They are just proud of their heritage and history, and want to share it with the world. Whether it be dark or light they don't hide their past or glaze over it. They wave it high in the air for all to see, in hopes they will heed the call. The call to unite for the greater good of us all.

Other thoughts: The hostility is a little sad, in that the cross is, properly speaking, (I know, the Christians, the kings, all that), a symbol of suffering, of holy suffering, so knocking it down doesn't really make much sense, if you follow. Actually, if someone was actually on the cross and you knocked it down, the person would be let off, so it's a little weird. That alliteration, though. Wow. Quite poetical.
I don't want to be mean and tell you that you just don't get it, but that seems to be the case. Learn more and you will learn that the animosity towards the cross is directed more towards the loss of culture. Christianity setback humanity by a thousand years, destroyed millions of lives, displaced or destroyed many nations and culture and history. Some people take offense to that.
You and so many who haven't even had the thought yet. That is the work of the Odinist today; 1) Become aware 2) Expand awareness 3) Teach others, and suffer what that means 4) Don't be a thrall
