    Good explanations! It almost looks like a RR spike!
    I will add a tip for those interested... if you are upsetting a piece that is over approx 15 inches in length, the use if an upset block if your anvil has one, is a big help. My anvil didn't have one so I mounted a 2x4x4 piece of AR500 in the same location (between the anvil feet). A piece of mild steel will work too. This helps with how high the work piece is and makes for easier hammering.

    You get it red hot and start swearing and cursing it and hopefully you will get it upset
