I hope the residents of Uvalde have come to realize that their Mayor and entire city council have been playing dodge and deflect and not providing them with the level of service they deserve. I hope they vote to replace this entire city council including the Mayor. Time for new leadership, hopefully one that will take responsibility and not dodge, deny, and disappear. You all want to know why the Uvalde police behaved the way they did? It's because the City council set the policing standard for the city and signed the policing contract and set the level of expectation. You want better policing? Look at your City leaders and tell them, do your jobs or find another one.

@@cherylkline1892 I totally agree! I was an R.N. in a max. security complex. When a man or men, went down in the yard, I had to go assess them. Sometimes they would do that to try to take a hostage, or hurt someone. I had all the rifles of the guys in the towers trained on me just as much as they were trained on the inmate. But I WENT IN! It was my job. I had no weapon, no body armor, nothing. But someone was probably hurt or dying, and it was my job and my instinct to treat them.
If one of my patients was unresponsive in their cell, the SWAT team would have electric shields (which have killed people, but I had to get to the inmate. If he came at me or even just arisen, I would have been with HIM when those shields and pepper gas went off. It was my f 'ing JOB, not to mention, my instinctual urge to help someone
If a woman is willing to take a bullet, or bullets, to care for an inmate, you would probably have to shoot me to keep from getting to those kids. I would have *easily* taken a bullet for them.

Hire armed guards. At least 4 armed guards have them in every corner of the school. & Put metal, weapon detectors in every school entrance. It’s a lot of money but the kids deserve the best all the time.

I have a thought where they have the murals of the children and teachers. That would be a perfect place. The parents are the one's who decide and again there should be a memorial park. That would be a blessing.

From Ohio, I have called that police department. The dispatcher was so condescending. I asked her how she could work with cowards that stood by while 20 babies died. She sarcastically asked “Oh they were babies huh? Is that what the internet told you? Oh and it was 20 huh? That’s what the internet told you?” It seems anyone involved in that city government are incredibly heartless and obviously incompetent.
This year alone CA has a SURPLUS of $97,000,000,000 - 97 BILLION. That's enough to put three armed guards in every school in the U.S. for the next five years. It's almost as if politicians aren't trying to protect schools.

This isn't just a Uvalde problem. I for one intend to ask very specific questions this year. Do all of our doors lock? Are they all in working order? Who is in charge of ordering a lock down? Are all the class room doors able to be locked from inside? Do you coordinate with the police department and sheriff's office during your gun drills? We need transparency BEFORE these tragedies occur not after.
So true school will be starting soon, if I had a child in school anywhere, I would be getting parents together from my kids school and demand to see their safety protocol….everyone needs to watch out for their own children , kids should depend on their parents to make school as safe as they possibly can! It’s you rights, PROTECT YOUR KIDS!

Crazy they went after the Principal first. Sure, it was her school but then there should have been other City and County personal who signed off on the building. Higher up people need to be fired. And they don't care, they just collect paychecks and laugh at the people who provide for them.

Shouldn’t she had known 4 teachers and kids were in 111-112? How the room was set up and connected? That supposedly the so called “Chief” spent 77 mins trying to get into room 102… was there kids in there? The principal should have stayed on campus. I’m sure the parents would want to know. Poor parents are looking for any response. Begging for guns to be outlawed when the fact is that officers were on scene in less than 4 minutes and didn’t actually breach until 77 minutes later. They had full body armor and ballistic shields and still did not act. It’s despicable.
City manager says they want to do it right when it comes to firing and or suspending these coward cops! There is nothing wrong with suspending them for failing rondo their jobs. He has the power to do that on the spot! Their is no need to wait for a complete investigation as he says! They have the power to do this right now! To keep these so called officers away from the people, away from the public, to suspend their police powers if not for the short term. Yet even the city manager is scared to act!
Unfortunately, the person who was ultimately responsible for all this is dead and can't be punished.
Best comment here!!! The responsible suspect for killing 21 people is done!!! Now, as far as the miscommunication and bad handling of the school shooting by law enforcement and the school district will be done in civil court and the families will be compensated and settled by those liable. There is nothing that will be said or done to bring these families that lost their loved ones. May god bless them with the strength to overcome these difficult times.
If you're looking at this on an individual basis, you've already failed to understand what is going on. America has TWO mass shootings per day, it's the only industrial nation I know of that has a regular school shooter problem (which has all sort of issues of it's own, terrifying students, shooter drills, increased security which makes students feel like they're in jail, PTSD for survivors). Last time I checked, USA was on track to have over 44,700 gun homicides this year, compare that to other countries: Japan (10), UK (about 150 - 200) Australia (250). The people who are responsible for this on a wider scale are still very much alive and SHOULD be punished.

You're really looking at a cascade of errors.
The School Police Chief went to the ALERT training multiple times. But was unable to execute the plan. He froze under stress IMO.
The classroom door strike plate was broken. Plus doors only locked/unlocked from the outside. And, folks often used a magnet to bypass the lock to let kids out to go the bathroom. Source: Texas DPS. Realizing doors are only a temporary barrier.
It is unclear if there was somebody monitoring the video feed.
The school alert system worked on spotty WiFi and many teachers couldn't get the notice.
Keep in mind, this all happened in minutes.
376 police from a variety of organizations added to the confusion. It is unclear if the school had rehearsals..... IMO such rehearsals must include ALL responders (fire, medics, police). And medics must go in with breachers (CA has SWAT medics for example). Time is blood.
There currently is no SOP to relieve the Incident Commander (School Police Chief).
All students, teachers, and police should get the Stop The Bleed training.
Therefore, IMO the system must have external inspectors who hold annual tests of the school systems.
Otherwise, we'll be here pointing fingers the same time next year after the next shooting.
This really shows that nobody in America really cares about truth and justice. Just disgusting and shameful all around.

Three Points I would like to mention: 1. It's great that the City Council is listening. 2. A citizen complained about a police unit parked for one(1) hour. Well, I would have to say that we don't know what kind of budget the P.D. has for gasoline. Also, during the officer's shift, he or she needs to do report writing and when you have several reports, it could sometimes take more than one hour. 3. That City Council member (Hector R. Luevano) was so wrong campaigning against Gov. Abbott and also claiming that he was in the NRA's back pocket. NEWS FLASH....All politicians will welcome and receive contributions for their campaign from anybody. That doesn't mean that that that politician is on the contributor's back pocket. That council member is obviously against guns, but doesn't understand the concept that a mental issue might be the probem or even the lack of community envolvment could be the problem. If a citizen notices a person that indicates a promblem he/she should report it. Look how the ciitizens from Uvalde failed to report the mass shooter.

Police have qualified immunity, Supreme Court ruled they have no duty to act so nothing is going to happen no matter what these people say.
