Maybe I'm wrong, you use Optical Flow, but I think you have to set Motion Estimation to Speed Warp as well to trigger the Neural Engine. Than you get a nice slomo and no ghost frames (as you showed) is my experience.

My understanding was that you no longer have to go through the clip attributes process for using higher FPS footage. Retime will now use all of the available frames if you just take your high FPS footage and slow it down with the retime controls. Nice part is that this solves the audio problem as well, since retime handles both audio and video together. I tried it with some 240 FPS footage from a GoPro and I couldn't see any difference between setting the clip attributes to 24 frames and setting retime to 10%. At least I think this is the case for evenly divisible speed ratios. There may still be quality (or system performance) differences if you're trying to go from 80 FPS to 30 FPS, or some other ratio that makes Resolve do math to get the final frames. YYMV.

Doesn't look like it. when i put my 50 FPS into 25 fps timeline and change the speed I get 12.5FPS take a look in the inspector. But if I change it beforehand in attributes before putting it in my timeline I get 25 FPS.

Thanks Casey. I thought simply putting a 120 fps clip into a 24 fps timeline would play it back at slo motion. Didn't know that I had to tell Resolve to play back slower. Thanks

Love the specific hand-ghosting example in this very helpful video. It makes it visually really clear what to watch out for and why higher fps shooting for slow motion is desirable. "Jerky" is easy to see, ghosting is a little harder. I'll try and respond to your request to help you with future topic suggestions when I get a little further into Resolve. Slow motion seems really important to keep videos interesting so thanks for this great video showing how to get it in a pinch when you forgot to shoot it.

this does not somehow work for me. I have shot a video clip at 100fps however when I bring it into Davinci Resolve with Project settings of 30fps, when I import this 100fps clip in media pool and right click to check out the "clip attributes" it shows 25fps and not 100fps as you have demonstrated in your video. What could be reason for that or is this option only available/workable in Davinci Resolve Studio and not the free version.

Same question. I'm like 90% done editing a video in which I shot in 30FPS. My timeline is set to 24 FPS and I've manually gone in and reduced all clip speeds (with pitch correction on) to 80% speed to get a slowish motion look.
I think it looks smooth, so I'm not going to change it for this video because it would mess up my edit, but in the future am I getting the same quality by doing it this way? Plus it slows the audio as well.

My question is, if I put 60fps footage on the timeline and then change the clip attribute to 24fps, the sync on the timeline goes wrong. Ofc I could change the clip attribute before placing it on the timeline, but then it's already in slow motion. Maybe you could do some tutorials for some us that have a BMPCC. I set my timeline at 24fps in my camera and then the off speed recording is at a higher frame rate. When I play it on timeline in DR it plays back the higher frame rate then if I want to change the whole clip I go to Clip Attributes and change it to the higher frame rate and then it plays 24fps on the timeline but I can then slow it down at the points I feel it needs to be. When it comes to that part there are several different ways to do it. Then its all smooth providing I dont go past the percentage to slow it down.

Hi, I am new to Resolve and video editing world in general. One thing I am not able to figure out after so much research is, why doesnt the clip in timeline get bigger when I change the clip attributes to 60-> 24. I have a 28 sec clip shot in 60 fps and now I import in 24 fps , it shows 28 seconds. Good. Now, when I change the clip attributes, the clip still is 28 seconds. I would have expected to be 28*2.5 times. Alos, the audio is through entire clip instead of how it was in this video, where it should have ended 2.5 times ago.
Can you clarify what I could be doing wrong?

Never mind, if I change the clip attributes before bringing time line, it works as you showed. Thank you.

Is it possible to ramp down to the slower speed then ramp back up to normal speed?
