We came to Australia in 2000, travelled around in a camper van, ran out of money in Brisbane after circumnavigating Aus over 8 months. Got a job, been here 23 years, two kids, mum and sister have also moved over. No regrets, live in lovely part of Brisbane & Proud to call Queensland home.
So many people write of Brissie. It had a bit of a reputation about 20-30 years ago as being a bit behind the times but people need to move on. I've lived here for 46 years (born here) and its an amazing place.
Thank you for exploring my beautiful city of birth, have lived here all my life. You did well with the sights you visited. Having visited, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, all fine cities, but I genuinely believe Brisbane is the best. With our friendly people, wonderful weather, open spaces, modern buildings, our great brown river. One hour to Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast beaches, same to the hinterland, villages and national parks, Brisbane will do me.
I moved the fam bam from NZ in 2015 to Brissy and never looked back. The people, the infrastructure, the weather. Summer has a few extra toasty days but on net over a year it's outdoor lifestyle is unbeatable. Winter is better than an NZ summer. There's also Moreton Bay, a 66km coastline that has about 60% of the population... highlights are Manly and Wynnum on the mainland ⛵⚓🚤🛳and Moreton Island and Tangalooma. Then there's the hinterland and northern and southern beaches aka sunny and gold coasts 🏖☀️🌊
next time your in Brisbane you HAVE to check out EAT STREET, Its a fun foodie place made entirely out of shipping containers, Also if you like food there is Fish-lane in southbank,Eagle lane in the city and Green beacon in teneriffe. My personal favourite right now is El Camino Cantina in southbank. There is also some hidden gems to visit like Enogerra Reservoir. Hope you come back!
We are having a six month holiday here in Brisbane, our new house on the Sunshine Coast has been held up by the bad weather. We have been out exploring every day and have loved every day, we are near a ferry terminal at Hawthorne, it’s cheap and quick, traffic is not as mental as other cities, pretty much 20 minutes to everywhere. Best pub Felons, great food too, best walk Burke park, under Storey Bridge to south bank. Best park Roma Street gardens, nice cafe restaurant too. Well worth an extended holiday based here.
If you get the chance try and explore the hinterland, go in land to Boonah and Lake Moogerah, or drive the road out to Samford, Dayboro, Mt Mee then to Woodford round to Beerwah. Its quite nice to get away from the coast sometimes.
Have loved all of your vlogs & glad you loved Brissie & your Aussie adventure - so much more to explore, so you’ll have to come back again one day! 😊 Have a great time in NZ & for the rest of your travels. Cheers😘
I've lived here my whole life and always felt bummed about our city, finding not alot to do. This has been very interesting seeing it through your eyes.
Have only just discovered your channel with this video. You seem like lovely people. Will have to go back and watch your other stuff. Glad you liked Brisbane so much. It was kinda suburban whenI grew up there in the 70s & 80s but really leapt ahead after Expo 88 and is now a major city 😊 Enjoy NZ! It's completely different from Oz but utterly beautiful 😍
You need to visit the Walter Hill macadamia nut tree at the Brisbane botanical gardens. She's a big tree and the first one planted by Europeans in the 1850s.
Reminds me of Dubai where they also built something similar to the Brisbane wheel. Was in Dubai in 2017 and it's what they call Little Britain as most British expats together with other Euro expats architectured the Dubai railway and the Global village
If your respective parents had visited Brissie in 1992 and taken photos of the CBD and Southbank, you would be staggered by the amount of development. Expo 88 basically kickstarted Brisbane but the developers really moved in after we kicked Y2K to the kerb ;)
Based on what you showed of GOMA, I daresay we would have been through there pretty quickly. I have lived in South East Queensland all my life and I worked for years in the Brisbane CBD and then just outside the CBD. In all that time I never felt compelled to visit GOMA.
@@glenmale1748 no offence intended! Art is all about truth, and our truth is that modern art just isn't for us! As I said, we did enjoy some of it, but it's not something we are cultured enough to "get". Everything else in Brissie we loved!
Brisbane needs more museums as you have to travel all the way to CBD from the outside suburbs to see it.. People need variety of options besides going to the beach or shops..
Moved back home with my English wife and to Brisvegas after 20 years in the UK. Managed to buy our own home and though we often miss London and our friends we feel lucky to have what we now have. Love the standard uniform of wife beater, boardies and thongs. Too easy.
Ah, you spoiled "proper Aussie" by saying "wifebeater" and "flipflops" - that would be a singlet and thongs, mate. As long as between those you are in Stubbies, you are dressed like a proper Aussie (at least one in this region).
Uh .. YOU REALLY should get out more. Really. Except for Southbank, Brisbane has no beaches. Sutton's beach import their sand from north of Townsville.
Yep, Brissie local coming here to say the same thing! Property prices completely out of control here now. So glad we bought our first house in the '80s when we were younger and have been able to just ride the rising market as we moved. I couldn't imagine even finding he deposit if I was 20-something and buying my first house now :(
fr, my mum needs to struggle to find a 4 bedroom house under $500/wk before mid-may (which is the specs of our current house) because of our shitass landlord deciding they want to sell, and if she cant find one, i may have to stay full-time at my dads instead of half time, which is already a nightmare as is :/ didnt catch the comment about it being cheap but it was definitely poor taste
Compared to other places, cheap. Objectively, extortionate, but most other places are even more extortionate. One of the biggest problems for Brisbane rental market is landlords who live elsewhere so think the rent here should be like the rent where they are. Or more generally, greed.
SERIOUSLY! GIVE BRISBANE A MISS! You have to travel for over an hour (1.5hours) to find any decent water with some waves or ripples or even some nice head land to surf or dive around. You can't even ski in the Brisbane river as it has Bull sharks, so no swimming or skiing. It's as hilly as all fuck, so the roads are not designed for traffic. Meaning that you have single lane roads everywhere except for Gympie Rd and the freeways. Going east to west sucks. Trying to get to either Gympie rd or the freeway is a pain on the single lane roads. It's always humid. Then there are the OBLIGATORY afternoon storms that roll in around 4pm. They have only two seasons each year instead of 4, how does that even work? You have to go offshore 20 miles to get to any nice island beach where you can swim in nice clear water. So if you can't afford a boat...forget it!

I’ve travelled Australia and currently reside in Brisbane. I’ve spoken to a lot of others who have/are travelling and Brissy is criminally underrated.
Looks like you're having a great time here in Brisbane. Moved from the UK to Australia 4 years ago, best decision I ever made
We loved it! Where did you move to!
It was great seeing Brisbane through your eyes. Made me appreciate how good we've got it here!
Fantastic city, super cool and very livable!

It's a really cool city! According to our Air BnB host, 40% of all inward migration in Australia last year was to Brisbane. We get it!!
Glad you enjoyed Brissie. I have lived in different places, but most my life in Brisbane, and no where else will be home xx
A very good round up of Brissie. Well done guys !
It is the best placee - move here 10 years ago from Devon, UK. Aussie citizen now and wouldn't be anywhere else.
Congratulations and well done, superb choice!
This is dope dude, I'll visit Brisbane soon!
I'm a Brissie local and I love it here, I'm glad you guys enjoyed your time here and see what we see every day, safe travels...

We wanted to but too far from where we were staying! Next time!
Wonderful video really enjoyable. I was shocked to see that artwork with the fans at 6:45 I've seen that before!

Unfortunately housing isn't cheap here, its uncontrollable at the moment. We wish!

Good on ya crew! Glad you enjoyed Brisneyland!

Come back to live here, we miss you both already!!!
Thx for the journey. You did so well. Great visuals. Goodluck. See Ya!😅😢
Brisbane is a very big Middle class city also. So it's quite safe compared to other Australian capital cities..
Haven't been to Brisbane but have seen Sydney and a bit of Melbourne! Would like to go back to Australia!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome guys
You guys are welcome back to brissie anytime 😊 hope you enjoyed your stay in Australia 🇦🇺
Great videos really enjoyed your trip Hope Australia is dear to your ❤️ .
Thanks! Really special place, we had such a good time!

heh, that rain. Sometime between 3 and 4pm?
The best place to visit in qld is Carnarvon gorge it's about a 12hr drive but worth every second
Hopefully when we return one day!

OMG. You raced through GOMA. One of the best modern art galleries in the Southern hemisphere. I guess it's not for everyone.
What do they say about modern art? If you like more than 10% of it your a liar? 😂 Not our thing, but we enjoyed a few bits!
@@thedombsdownunder2595 That's harsh!

And never forget that it is almost as large as Los Angeles....
Lovely city, even the bad parts look decent.

You didn’t do the Gold coast and Sunshine Coast ?
Drove through both of them but unfortunately didn't have time to stop and see! We did hit Noosa for a few days!
They're becoming outer suburbs of Brisbane anyway 😉😁
You should have come to Redcliffe and see Bee Gees Way
Brisbane might not be a secret after it hosts the 2032 Olympics.
"Brisbane is super cheap!" **I cried, then I laughed, and then I cried some more.....**
brisbane was a secret? man Ive been telling everybody

Brian we drove 11,500km across Australia and about half the coast in the process. How much more out do you want us to get? 😂😂
Super cheap to live here? Are you freaking kidding? Air BnB just makes things worse.

Nope not the best kept secret that goes to Adelaide the worlds third best city rated for its living and life style and food & wine culture.
We loved it there also!
To each their own but IMO Brisbane is overrated
