I loved the finale. Luke's betrayal hurt more here, for me, at least. In the books, his sympathetic side doesn't come out much until the 3rd book. So, seeing it come out right from the start was great. Lance Reddick was perfect as Zeus. It's a shame we can't have more of him, but what a performance to go out on.
I agree that Leah Jeffries crushed it as Annabeth! Protect that young actress at all costs! Also, i thought that casting a literal wrestler as Hades was a stroke of genius! Adam Copeland was having the time of his life playing Ares, and it showed IMO.
it was beyond amazing 9/10 for sure (i’m a book reader) leah and walker WOW their chemistry and acting is so perfect and honestly beyond their years! the actors of this new generation aryan the anxiety he portrayed it very realistically. like please give the kids their flowers. the emotion in the eyes of these kids is what got me when it comes to them was PERFECTION! can’t wait for season 2. the betrayal scene was so intense in the best way possible! leah’s eyes voice and pointing the dagger at him also the dagger she threw at luke was the dagger luke gave her promising to protect her and that they are family it was just beyond PERFECT like wow im obsessed 🤞🏽🤍
They’re probably never gonna show the gods true forms just to keep up with how they work thematically. Mortals and demigods can’t look at a gods true form without disintegrating into dust
If I remember correctly from the greek myths, Dionysus' mom (a mortal), who had an affair with Zeus, asked him to see his true form and got smoked by it. It was a miracle that he managed to save Dionysus after it. So these forms of the gods are basically all we can handle with our mortal eyes 😅
RIP Lance Reddick 💔. Part of me is still in denial that he's gone! 😥 They made a change in the characterization of Hades and Zeus in the show that I really liked! In the books, Percy thought that Hades was the first god he met that looked imposing and godlike. And the reader's expectations were subverted when Hades acted more like a put upon bureaucrat than a deity. In the show, Zeus seemed to get the kind of imposing introduction that Hades got in the book. And the lightning punctuating Zeus' words was a cool touch! Whoever takes over the role of Zeus has HUGE shoes to fill! (See above 💔)
I totally agree with you about that. That Rick was involved in this show, he gave it his stamp of approval. Hell, he even made some changed that he wanted to correct from the book or add something that he wished he could have done. I think there was an interview with the kids where they said he was on set with them and told them "hey, no matter what they say, i chose you, i picked you". I dont know if its true or not, but something along the lines, he is the author. He created this world that is just amazing. He was not involved in the films because they COMPLETELY CHANGED EVERYTHING. He even said he did not acknowledge the films because Hollywood twisted into almost an action-packed film and not a heartfelt journey of a boy becoming a man, on a journey to save the one he loves. Almost like Harry Potter. So, i agree when you say who are we to say this when Rick was the creator of this story, this world, he wrote the characters. Now, i remember that when the released the cast pictures as their characters, there was backlash because of Percy not having black hair, Annabeth not being what they envisioned or Grover based on their color. But that didn't matter to me because i read that Rick was involved in the process. I trusted that he was there for casting and even posted a picture with kids like "Hey, i chose them. Not you. Me." Which i love and i cried in the last episode because i read the books in middle and high school. It has the spirit and feeling of what i felt when i read them. Thats all that mattered that it made me nostalgic and emotional.
Luke has met his father, they talked about it in the Lotus Casino episode, where Annabeth told Hermes she heard everything Luke said to him, about how he hated him. They hinted at the fact that it tied in with his mother as well
Can definitely say that adults can enjoy this show regardless of the "YA" orientation - my housemate and I have never read the books, but thoroughly enjoyed watching this season and are looking forward to more!
Children of the big three are super powerful. It’s why they were forbidden. Percy, at 13-years-old, is already very powerful. In a later book, another demigod says in a group of other powerful demigods that Percy is the most powerful demigod he knows. At that point, I think Percy is 16 or 17. Percy is special!
My favorite character in the books was Percy because he's so sassy. But I think in the show, Annabeth might be my new favorite, so props to Leah. She's amazing as Annabeth.
Im a book reader and I have to say this first series was really very well done for me. Of course there were one or two critiques that I have but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it, was excited by it and at some times incredibly moved by it. The actors and the chemistry was stunning (specifically the main trio); I loved the themes that were interweaved throughout the story; the changes impacted so much more on the storyline and in some cases were even an improvement on the original books. Genuinely. Im so excited for the future seasons episodes because where the storylines are gonna go I know that these actors are gonna deliver and beyond, I also know that there will be plot twists to keep even us book readers on our toes. Lance Reddick, man Im so sad about him. He radiated such power, elegance, presence and authority as Zeus that finding someone to even come close to him is gonna be tremendously hard. I will correct you on one thing; Luke has met his father, Hermes even lived with them at one point, but theres a lot of bad blood because Luke blames him for what happened to his mum (which is incredibly heartbreaking tbh and will break my heart when we get to those scenes). I love how much this series has really shown how much Percy/Luke are character foils for each other. They basically want the same things but they just go about it different ways. I cant wait to see how their reunion will go when they see each other again after the betrayal has happened 😩 its gonna be so angsty and sad. Ive loved watching yalls reactions so much! Looking forward to more (sorry about this essay 😂)
@@Syntell The actress that played Annabeth really captured the spirit of the book Annabeth to a tea.. Her stoic nature the looks she gives Percy were perfect. She won me over in her first episode and I was one of the ones back in the day that whined about Movie Annabeth not being blond back in the day.
@@briangressett902 💯 I teared up a few times.. I was like, “there she is, my sweet girl 😭” Annabeth is my favorite character in the series and Leah did amazing. Can we get a crown for this queen?? 👑💙
When I was younger, I thought Luke was so fucked up for what he did. I guess growing up is realizing he was kiiiiinda right about the gods LOL But it is also realizing that Luke is childish for thinking Kronos - the dude who swallowed his own children - would be any better....
One of the executive producers for this show is Rick Riordan's wife, Rebecca Riordan, apart from Rick himself. This team is very much fans of the books, that's why it went so well
"Fredo!" LOL!!! You made it!!!! CONGRATS and THANKS for this!!!! And I agree with Syntell that the Potter People need to make an offer this group can't refuse!!!
Loved the series and these reactions! So sad we won’t get to see Lance as Zeus again he was perfect. The team for this show is fantastic and they dropped a sort of “making of” documentary on Disney if you guys wanna watch. The showrunners had worked on Black Sails previously and brought some of the actors from there over to guest star. Also the director for this episode and episode 5 is working on Avatar the Last Airbender live action
Funny thing is, they actually toned down the thing woth Gabe in the end from the book. Here, he turns himself to stone by going through Percy's mail. In the book, Percy gives the box to Sally when the gods return it and she uses the head to outright murder Gabe and sell his body as art. To be fair he was much more abusive in the book and totally deserved it. I can see why they changed it, it was kinda dark for a kids book lol
if i remember correctly from the books, mortals (and i believe demigods) cant see gods in their true form, it would kill them. so it wasn’t a budget choice!
I knew Lance would kill it as Zeus and I was not disappointed. What a performance to go out on, he was phenomenal and it's such a shame we won't get to see him continue in the role. I really hope Disney lets the legacy of this appearance stand and recasts instead of deepfaking (which they've done far too many times, especially in Star Wars, at this point). Whoever fills his shoes has a lot to live up to, though As a book fan I thought the Poseidon scene proved that waiting for changes to pay off can be worth it. The four pearls, the passed deadline, and his conversation with Sally set up his intervention perfectly. Those story changes framed him as a better parent and better person than his relatives, therefore giving Percy a stronger reason to fight for the gods instead of joining Kronos. Percy has hope that maybe some of the gods can rise above their past behavior because his father proved that it was a possibility. Really smart writing there Also agree on the kid actors, they were amazing and I'm so proud of how much they grew into their roles over the course of the season
Yeah, in the book, Sally straight up kills Gabe by using Medusa's head but Gabe was a true physically abusive dickbag. This version of him is very toned down so him doing himself in is more fitting.
In the myth of Dionysus's origin,Zeus revealed his true form, and vaporized a mortal,so the Percy Jackson universe had Zeus' children and sibling that power to.
I think lance Reddick still has a part in ballerina, the John wick spinoff movie that releases 7 June 2024 that Anna De Armas leads and Keanu Reeves also has appearances in the movie.

I like Leah as Annabeth even tho I was skeptical at first. But Rick Riordan changed a lot of stuff from the book for this series. It ended up being a fine 7/10 but if he just stuck to what he wrote it would have been a 10. He made a lot of questionable decisions with this show, but I’m glad Annabeth didn’t turn out to be one of them. If this show is to succeed I think Rick needs to go ngl. He told a good story the first time, and it’s clear he can’t do it twice.
