I’m a 57 year old grandma. Graduated 1985. I had this cassette and played it continuously in my 79 firebird. To this day I know every word. Started dancing and singing the second u hit play. Long live the 80s greatest time of my life
This song was an absolute monster, it was getting play on every radio station. It had that crossover appeal that everybody moving little kids big kids young adults old adults even casuals that didn't necessarily listen to hip hop knew this song. It wasn't vulgar but it wasn't soft and the beat was crazy. Sometimes you make a perfect song for that era and this was one of those songs.
You just took me back to high school. We actually had them come to my high school and perform...not sure how that was pulled off... but it was LEGENDARY.
No yachts, lambos no profanity, no drugs, no half neked women just MC,DJ, and fan having a ton of fun. this exactly why we could ave house/block parties.
Yeeeeeees! I love this song and play it when I need to get HYPED! As a Genx'er I'm learning the real lyrics here for the first time. We never had access to all the real lyrics back then :) I'm over here dancing on my lunch break!!!! Thanks Boogie - you're awesome!
Me and my cousin used to drive around the Joliet mall in South Chicago….It was called the Louis mall with this bumpin as loud as humanly possible on some cerwin vega’s . We were living the life.😂
This generation just don't know!! He said 'y'all were on the dance floor for 5 minutes?' Excuse you, but these songs were mixed with other songs, so we were on the dance floor for hours. The party was ALL NIGHT LONG🤗🕺💃
Back then the AIDS epidemic was at it's height and there was uncertainty on how it was spreading and fears. Also the Crack epidemic - many unfortunately people were sharing drugs and practicing unsafe sex... 💔
Good reaction, bro. Btw, you see the guy to the right of Rob Base around the 8:30 minute mark? He's wearing a black hat, an open black jacket, and a red-patterned sweater --- we;;, that is DJ Red Alert, and he appears in many Hip Hop videos around this era. He was among the founders of Hip Hop back in the Bronx in 1973 (the creator of Hip Hop being a then-teenager DJ Kool Herc originally from Jamaica). Anyway, DJ Red Alert had a hugely popular radio show in NYC on 97.8 KISS FM in which he played only Hip Hop. You have to remember that in the early to late 1980s, Hip Hop didn't really get much radio play unless you were listening to a Hip Hop station, or a Hip Hop segment on a popular radio station. So, many new and upcoming Hip Hop artists and their record labels would usually go through DJ Red Alert to introduce their songs and their albums to the Hip Hop listening public. So, you might see his face in the background of many Hip Hop music videos around that time, since the artists and their label were always so appreciative of DJ Red Alert for giving them the opportunity to succeed by playing their songs on his radio program for the world to hear, and interviewing them live on air.
There are a few songs that remind me of this era of Hip-Hop that you should check out. "MC Breed - Ain't No Future In Your Frontin" , "N2Deep - Back To The Hotel" & "Paperboy - Ditty"
Back in the 80's is where Aids started. Well it started in the late 70's but nobody knew what it was yet and by 1983 or so, they finally gave it a name Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome aka Aids. So Rob base was probably talking about that.
For Gen X, this will always get the party started. And the floor will get packed
This song and Chubb Rock "Treat em Right" always got us on the dance floor back in the day.
Everyone hit the dance floor when this song played in the dance clubs

This was the hip-hop anthem for several years, not just one summer.
This was one of those songs that just turned the party out!
"Stay away from me if you're contagious." - Likely referring to HIV/AIDS which was a deadly threat at the time this song was released.
RIP BIZ, RIP EZROCK
This and “treat me right” by Chubb rock was probably the party anthems of my HS years
💯
The sample is from Think (About It) by Lyn Collins & James Brown
The Female Preacher! 🙌
Is Lynn Collins any relationto Bootsy Collins?
@@Jersey9998 not that I know of. Bootsy had an older brother Catfish, who was also a musician; he passed away @ 2010.

You didn't clock that "Hit it" is Slick Rick from La di da di.
MC LYTE Paper Thin. BARS
Absolute classic. Joy and Pain is another great one released around the same time as It Takes 2. Worth a check out.
Joy and Pain was not a good track, today it's worth peanuts.
There was way better hiphop around late 80's.
Love your selections and your reactions. Could you react to “I Got It Made” by Special Ed? Please and thank you.
This release in 1988 still gets ya hyped up gotta love it , thanks for your reactions
Damn Boogie....you at 19k subscribers dawg...🎉
@@amrikjaswal76 He’s genuine and limits his intro and outro which I appreciate I’m guessing others do as well

You REALLY need to watch "Motherlover" by The Lonely Island - however it's part of a trilogy so you have to start with "D*ck In A Box" first.
We danced all night long. Because after this song the DJ played another banger and then another and then another
Biz Markie - Vapors
Then do the Snoop cover, too!
We definitely was sweatin to this. My favorite place to hear this back then was at the skating rink
If you're at a party and this song comes on... Look out!
Beat Street, Battle At The Roxy. Classic breakdance battle.
Hell yeah!
Man this is bringing back memories.
Knew you was gonna love this.
One of the first songs that introduced me to Hip Hop. We've been exclusively dating ever since!
I'm from around where they did that vid on 125thst in Harlem (Apollo theatre). I was around 15 and this was a vibe even to this day. Shalom Levite!

This was the bomb in the clubs. Seems everybody sampled the shit out of all these amazing jams we had. This is where the good content started.😁

Yup
Everybody was family back in the day homie. Slick Rick, Robb Base, Doogie Fresh, Biz Markie, DJ Rock. Music was alive. Joy & pain features a bunch
The sunshine & rain.
Joy & Pain would be a good reaction to do
This song was on heavy heavy rotation
Fun fact, I went to law school with the dancer in the green Nike warm-up. He became a district attorney in Los Angeles.
