They isolated and alienated players already leading up to this for the last few months. I lost the ability to do AR and even pet the Pokemon because they prioritized new phones over older ones, and my phone isn't even that old of a model. Some people lost the ability to even play the game at all as of 2-3 months ago. Now? They're losing more people because they're living in a fantasy bubble and not in the real world.

Already uninstalled Pokemon GO from my phone as soon as I heard about this.
I got on just to check what they did to my character. She was turned into an emaciated vampire. So much for having a cute character. I uninstalled and left a negative review. I won't be coming back to Niantic games ever again.
I'm transferring as much as I can and then dropping after the Global Fest. Because _of course_ they do this "update" after I decided to try the ticket.
This kind of thing will never be present if I ever make any games. Men will be men, women will be women, people will be attractive, and there won't be anything unnecessarily objectionable.

This isn't surprising considering what happened with Pokemon Scarlet/Violet from 2 years ago - can't pick sex of the character, a bunch of ugly androgynous NPCs, no skirt options for the female player character, etc. Japan isn't safe from this nonsense, not even Nintendo.
Eh, I think Nintendo is basically okay at this point. TPCi is the one that allowed it to happen and are likely going to be forced to change it back long term and make better changes so they can gain sales back long term.

I'm a writer and editor, so I wouldn't mind being part of a development team. I'd be glad to write the story and dialogue. I wonder if Geeks + Gamers would be interested in putting together a development team to make their own PC game. I'm sure crowd funding would get them the money they need to fund development.

I actually like modern games, especially ones that let me customize tons of aspects like my character or a house, and they also have better graphics and are more fun to play since most old games don't really have the things I like in games

Heres the thing right. Its easy for devs to add character customisation into their games today. They could just add the ability to make your own character look how ever you want. Make a female, make a black character, make a male, make a chinese character, make a mangirl.. whatever floats your boat. But these DEI people insist on removing everything but their preference of what a human should look like and forcing you to play how they want because nothing says inclusion like discluding everyone else. DEI is a cancer on the gaming industry just like it has been for movies and TV shows. No matter what gmae it is, if it has woke in it, if you buy it YOU ARE SUPPORTING IT!

Depends on your preference for games, I like games with tons of customization, either turn-based or real time combat, digital toybox games, games that let me be creative, games with good stories, and games with graphics I personally like, and a lot of modern games fill those quotas yet I cant play them because I dont have the money or right system to play them with

Not surprising from a San Francisco company (Niantic). I've been noticing Pokémon going slowly woke recently. It started with Pokemon Go confirming a long time ago that a couple characters were part of the non-binary circus, and some other examples were shown in Scarlet/Violet in my opinion, but this is just such obvious DEI insertion it's ridiculous. I uninstalled the game and I don't blame anyone for doing the same. Another example of get woke, go broke.

The problem here isn't DEI or a consulting firm, it's sheer incompetence. They reworked the character designs to allow for character customization, and did it badly. Do not assume malicious intent when incompetence is the most likely answer.
Or problems with modelling or rigging or transferring the update onto mobile or something similar, also yea, its probably not malicious intent, just them trying to add slight inclusivity by allowing players to adjust their avatars

I heard this is mostly with Niantic then Game Freaks doing, but hopefully it will be dealt with as soon as possible by the Pokemon Company. Also lets hope it doesn't spread to the main games like Legends Z-A or future titles.

So glad I stopped playing Pokemon Go years ago. I am sickened to see such a franchise get this treatment. I wish that Nintendo (the TRUE Nintendo of Japan) would hurry up and step in with what Nintendo of America is allowing to happen if possible. I thought a foreign-owned company like Nintendo would have not fallen victim to this, but unfortunately nothing is safe anymore. Fucking nothing.

Apparently the update is out here in finland too according to my friend who plays pokemon go, but she didn't delete the game and just made her avatar look as much as the original model as possible

For many years I wondered why they didn't introduce to us all the enemy archetypes as playable models. Those were so diverse, so vibrant that anyone would find something to represent them. Instead they stuck with 2 generic models. I just thought they were just lazy or lacked imagination but wow, was i wrong. To simply allow us to mutilate existing models and call that diversity is even lazier.

When I design my character (which is 100% of the time a male character - if you play as a female, I think that's cringe, but you do you), my character is always like 6'5 with a big ol beard and powerful. I would never make my character fat, bald, ugly, etc. Who would want that??? Cringe.

Just try not to buy anything they're providing after they've outed themselves. They'll still see it as support.
If you're tapping into a backlog of games you've already got though, then you still get the enjoyment you're after AND the companies don't get a dime that they'll assume is support for the direction they're headed in.
Pokemon go was made to get people to go outside and excersise. It helped others connect together around the world for fun and freedom. Now Niantic is doing the opposite. With their new game ruining avatars that are cursed and whitewashed on the skin colors. Unfair update for many veteran players who all think the game was fine the way it was already!
