I use almond as the base just mostly because it gives its a good dark tone when clean and good lightly weathered tone when distressed.
The "muddy mask" or whatever you call it, is awesome. Don't criticize on it so much. Real nice job👍

It's a bit time-consuming, but it's fun and it's kind of a stress relief to lose yourself in painting and weather one of the masks.
