    New owners of BMWs probably don’t know how important a good battery is. It’s crucial. This is a great video. A tired battery really messes up a BMW. Well done, George.

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 3 месяца назад

      Not only that but you MUST register it to the car and input the correct battery specs, otherwise that can cause all kinds of issue including shortened battery life and electrical systems in the car malfunctioning/being put into low power mode/switched off.

    Checking that the battery specs registered to the car are correct to the battery is super important, otherwise the IBS system can undercharge/overcharge the battery, shortening its life, and can also think the battery is failing when it isn't, causing strange issues like things being put into low-power mode, multiple warning lights coming on etc. A decent battery that is correctly registered to the car is vital for error free operation of this car's many, many electronic systems.

    Hey george, what would happen if you replaced the battery, but didnt have access to the ISTA thing you used?

  • @steifan

    Recently replaced my 15 year old battery on my E90 (only run on summers with trickle charge during winter) and "luckily" I did not have an IBS-sensor on the negative lead so it was just plug & play :) On early E90s it seems that IBS and iDrive is connected, no iDrive probably no IBS if that helps anyone. But I found out that the battery module (looking through INPA) seems to log hours of usage in different ambient temp, so it could be a fun way to check if a cars has been driven much in cold conditions.

    on the removed battery was 100ah label, on the new one is 90ah. In ISTA you chose that new one is the same capacity as old one. Is this correct? I am going to install 100ah battery (old is also 100ah) what option should I choose? Currently bimmertoom states that current battery ia 90ah. I gues previous owner did not register it correctly?

    I replaced my e61 and e87 with that brand. No problems. You can use istap to see the battery options your car can take. It is different per chassis. For example my e87 could take down to 55ah. I also don't think you need agm at all for the E models. However you will need to program in the battery ah and type to match, ie wet cell or agm. Recommend always checking your battery setting in istap+/scan tool and make sure it matches. You never know if the previous owner put the correct battery in.

    If I understood the installation right, Ista didn't ask for cold start amps!?
    Do you have an instrument (i.e. C-Tech) to measure the capacity of the old battery to see how bad/good it really is/was?
    My friend, Johnny (you see he is also Finnish), tested my battery in the E83 LCI 20d, and it isn't very good, and now I have googled all night(!) because I have 4-5 lights on after ca 5-600 m's driving. I have looked for faults with Inpa, but now I think I have started the car with "half empty" battery sometimes.
    So the problem is the same as if I had disconnected the battery!?
    The steering angle module must be reset!
    Inpa indicates fault in this module too!
    The result of this examination is that I'm starting to understand Inpa...

    Hi George. Another great video thanks. Keep 'em coming please! One question though and that is I thought that you should only remove the vent plug from the side that you are plugging in the vent pipe to? By removing both and only inserting a vent pipe into one side means you are then venting the battery into the boot from the other side which then defeats the object of a vent pipe in the first place. I left the non-vent pipe side of the one in my 760Li in when I replaced it a few weeks ago based on this theory - perhaps I was wrong. Also I think that if you install a battery with an Amp Hour that does not match the options in ISTA then you use the setting that is one notch lower as it were in ISTA, which then means that the car will actually have a greater reserve of power than it thinks based on the ISTA setting as the car uses the rating entered to calculate when to turn things off to ensure you have enough power to start the car if you leave it for a while or have a battery drain somewhere. I don't think it actually affects the actual battery charging per se except in so far as selecting AGM or not. I may be wrong of course.

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  3 года назад

      Yes that makes sense but I don’t think it makes a huge difference in reality. The main thing is that they are removed to stop the battery exploding👍🏻

    • @Richyrichand1
      @Richyrichand1 3 года назад +1

      Definitely plug up the vent hole not connected to a breather pipe. The point of having 2 breather holes is to allow the battery to be installed the other way around and have the other side vented and the other one plugged.
