Here is a take from "The Sin and the Sentence" music video shoot. Playing along to the track, sorry if there are a couple of missing drum parts or if the video is not properly synced, this was just used for certain shots and thought you guys might like it. Enjoy! :)
bloorgusgoorge I think when Tom said, “barely 24” he was trying to imply that this drummer has potential to keep growing even tho his technique and power are at a great point right now.
The most amazing thing about this track - which I only learned yesterday - is that this humanoid/machine thing here recorded it one take, with no stops, and no cuts. What you hear on the record is literally his first attempt at recording it. I know its been said in similar ways before, but Alex, you're the best thing to happen to Trivium since Ron Anderson.
I completely agree. A drummer is a key piece of the band but it's quite rare for a drummer to have quite as substantial of an effect on a bands sound as Alex has had. Not to mention he makes everybody else in the band play better to keep up with his ridiculousness. Simply phenomenal.
Legend has it that Alex Bent started off as a mesopotamian drummer in circa 2000 BC, though an amateur, he had much time to improve as an immortal. Eventually, through numerous millennia, he became good enough to be requested to join the ottoman military band in the 15th century. The legend claims that some of his best work before Trivium was during the American Civil War. Finally, while on tour in eastern Europe last year, Matt, Corey, and Paulo stumbled upon Alex Bent when reading through ancient texts and discoverd how to summon him through lots of research.
I actually read on the dark web a story of a young boy Matt, who stumbled on the an ancient Egyptian papyrus in a cave that described a ritual wherby the most powerful ancient Messopatamanian "Bent God" could be summoned. He would need to create a powerful artefact shaped similar to the English letter "T" and infuse it with the souls of four human drummers. Young Matt planned this ritual in darkness for many years and slowly one by one, he sacrificed these four poor souls lured by promises of international rock super stardom. IT appears Matt was sucessful in creating the artefact, then summoned and enslaved the "Bent God". If you look closely at the video, you can see the death in his eyes as he pounds the skins of the sacrificed drummers. Now a prisoner of the the evil Kiichi Chaos spell, the Bent God knows, like the gladiators at the Colleseum that he witnessed long ago, he is cursed to obey or risk being sent back to Hades.
As a fan of trivium for about 12 years now I can safely say Alex brings such a brilliant and beautiful sound to Trivium. His style and energy just fits so perfectly and it's just so fucking amazing, please stay in the band.
He's what's been missing since Travis left, no offence to the others who been an gone but there style just didn't completely sit with me so glad they found Alex, match made in heaven
Technique does matter a lot, but in music, specially rock n roll and heavy metal, it ain't only about technique, but more about writing, just take a look at Lars, i know he has a lot of haters and Metallica also has haters, whatever. He's not a technical drummer, but still, besides James, he wrote some of the very best metal albums ever, with songs like One, Dyers Eve, shortest straw and the thing that should not be, FOR EXAMPLE ! He's a great songwriter and even though you don't like him or his band you can't deny that. Here we have a perfect marriage between technique and writing, but you know very well that it's not a common thing. Technique is not more important than songwriting. Never.
the intro reminds me of how The Rev played Almost Easy. and they really fucked up not going with Trivium for the album name. you can tell this is exactly how they've been wanting to sound. Slowly bridging the gap between metalcore and progressive death metal like Opeth and Arch Enemy where I've personally always held them anyways.
You are right, but I think they will have more material coming up in the next few years and hopefully we'll get 'Trivium' then since the writing for The Sin and The Sentence was smooth and their chemistry produced instant Trivium classics instantly
Oddly enough...I just watched a Rev video of him recording “Almost Easy” then my next thought was watching a Bent drum video. Don’t get me wrong, the Rev was bad ass, but this guy is something else. He is on Portnoy level. I question if he ever actually breaks a sweat playing parts 0.01% of the world’s population could dream of playing.
I can comfortably say that Alex is one of the greatest, if not the greatest metal drummer out there nowadays. He makes an incredibly difficult song seem like a warm up. Awesome stuff
This isnt humanly! I love your play style and you are my favorite drummer with The REV #foREVer R.I.P 28th Dec 2009 (9 Years ago since today so sad :( ) and Jay Weinberg. I hope you stay at Trivium!
I remember when I first heard the news of the Rev's passing like it was yesterday. He was always an inspiration to me on drums and I knew A7X would never, COULD never be the same once he was gone. Don't get me wrong, Wackerman is absolutely up to the same level of skill that the Rev was (and probably a good bit more versatile in all honesty), but there was a magic that Jimmy brought to the table that simply can never be duplicated by anyone. And he was also a hell of a composer, pianist and writer for the band as well.
The Alex Same, I jus discovered this guy and hes honestly amazing. As a drummer myself the Rev is my favorite, Joey Jordison probably second, I'm still listening to this guy but hes definitely top 5 for me, hes really amazing and plus hes still pretty young
@@Baraka_Obama_ GARRRR!!! Sad no one ever talks about him, poor guy didn't really do anything after peace sells then just passed away. Another tragic loss :(
So glad you're drumming for Trivium. Definitely the best drummer they've had. As a side note... how can you not jam the hell out while playing the parts during "You condemn me, 'cause you don't understand me"? It's physically impossible for me to not murder my drums during those segments.
Someone asked me the other day. Who is the best drummer you would say? I thought and (a lot of other people said Neil Pert) but it came to mind Alex Bent!! Thats what I said and proud of it. Nathan C.
One of the greatest drummers alive today. Hands down. This is what it looks like when a drummer LIVES to drum. Fucking love this guy. You've taken Trivium from my favorite band to my ALL-TIME favorite band, Alex.
You (along with Matt's returning screams) are the main reason why The Sin And The Sentence shaped up to what it is. Phenomenal! Glad it got to #3 on Loudwire's list!
Here is a take from "The Sin and the Sentence" music video shoot. Playing along to the track, sorry if there are a couple of missing drum parts or if the video is not properly synced, this was just used for certain shots and thought you guys might like it. Enjoy! :)
Alex Bent great job dude! You're an amazing fit for Trivium.
You Great Alex!!!!
Great job I love the beat I hope I can play like you some day miss you dude
Alex Bent thanks for the heads up! I was wondering if I was going crazy or not hahahaha still rocking and awesome to see
It’s Cody btw
Bro this guy is barely 24 and he's a monster with power and technique. This is insane!
This guys a god but how does age have to do with it
bloorgusgoorge I think when Tom said, “barely 24” he was trying to imply that this drummer has potential to keep growing even tho his technique and power are at a great point right now.
Tom Zaragoza what????!!!! He plays like hes been doing it for 40 years. Wow.
@@DIYTechnician LMAO 😂😂😂
He was better than most drummers at the age of 18. Truly a prodigy
ALEX "THE OCTUPUS" BENT

Brann "The Octopus Has No Friends" Daillor.
Honestly think Alex is > The Rev. Rev was a great drummer but Alex is legendary.
Maverick McFarlane The Rev is fast AF, but Alex Bent is fast and very clean...I've never seen him miss a beat live
@Maverick McFarlane: Although I agree I don't understand where this comparison came from. They never ever been in the same band or anything.
The most amazing thing about this track - which I only learned yesterday - is that this humanoid/machine thing here recorded it one take, with no stops, and no cuts. What you hear on the record is literally his first attempt at recording it.

Aaron Turner I totally agree. Alex adds so much to their sound. Watching him play...he's a freaking God.
I heard they took another take in case the needed to replace any sloppy parts, and they just didn't use it
I completely agree. A drummer is a key piece of the band but it's quite rare for a drummer to have quite as substantial of an effect on a bands sound as Alex has had. Not to mention he makes everybody else in the band play better to keep up with his ridiculousness. Simply phenomenal.
I remember him with Battlecross. When i heard he was trivium's new drummer i nearly shit my pants.
He reminds me so much of the rev

Alex Bent is the reason why i started drumming 2 days ago.
Underrated comment
May you one day be the reason why some other people will start drumming!
Hahaha...
How’s it going ?
How are the drums coming, 3 years later? lol
the technique with which he plays is brutal is what Trivium needed greetings

Alex is such an inspiration as a metal drummer, honestly the best Trivium could ask for. Keep rocking dude, you are a boss.
Are you sure you aren't a T-666 drum machine disguised as Alex Bent sent from the future by Trivium?
top 10 things science still cant explain
T-600s aren't the strongest machines
I think he's at least a T- 3000
I didn't even have to watch this video before I liked it
